GAME CHANGE: Duel. A civilized death w/ rules Started by: Squishy on Jan 22, '13 20:55

You can now challenge someone to a duel to the death. You will be automatically shooting at each other in ten second intervals until someone is dead.

The issuer picks between the following options:

1) Let a coin flip decide. (It randomly picks who gets the first shot)
2) I want to shoot first.
3) Let them shoot first.
4) We both shoot at the same time.

You do not need open timers to issue or an accept a duel. After the duel is over, your previous timers are restored.

You must be in the same city and have a gun to issue a challenge.

Once the duel is issued, all stats are recorded. It uses these stats, so anything you do after that point will not change the math. Buying 89013 bodyguards mid duel will not do anything. Having people shoot your opponents bodyguards mid duel will not do anything.

Since you are facing each other in the middle of the street, both knowing what is going to happen - there is no city bonuses or fort bonuses.

With the 4 different starting styles, 1 person will always die. If you choose to shoot at the same time, there is a chance that both of you are successful, and you will both die.

The challenge invitation will last 5 minutes, then time out. If it is not accepted in 5 minutes it will be automatically deleted. You do not need to respond to the invitation. When you accept the invitation, the duel will start within the next minute, shooting back and forth at ten second intervals until someone is dead.

In the event that both people have a 1% or less chance of hitting the other, that 1% will slowly increase on a per round basis to avoid excessive yawns.

If you wackback while dueling, it will just show as a fail with no other consequences.

ETHICS:

This is a feature for gentlemen of honor. If you issue a challenge, issue it under fair terms that are favorable to both parties. Generally, the "ethical" thing is to let the underdog shoot first.

If someone does not accept your invitation, use more favorable terms on your next invitation. If they do not accept it then, further invitations would become annoying.

I view this as a fair way for two people to settle their differences without others getting involved. If both people agree to the duel, then this feature has no consequences for anyone outside of the duel. If this feature becomes restricted from being used between consenting people, then the feature will be modified so it is all done anonymously and hidden.

Will winning a duel improve the same amount to peoples gun capability the same as wacking someone?

I love the sound of this feature.

Report Post Tip

Sterling, I would rather the answer to your question remains unknown and discovered through testing the feature. I don't know why we always seem to ask Admins to tell us the effects, isn't it more fun to find out ourselves?

Report Post Tip

True as that might be Tyrion, It could be something that would be near if not impossible for the average user to work out.

Report Post Tip

I think this will be pretty cool. i cant wait to see how this pans out i have a feeling theres gonna be alot of bgs for people to shoot in the near future:)

Report Post Tip

exciting change! I wonder if there will be a lot of rules and punishments if people participate or if people will freely duel and it will be like the wild west.. only the future will tell!

Report Post Tip

Just for curiosity's sake, what would happen if during the duel an outside person takes a shot at one of the involved players? Is someone stuck infinitely missing shots every 10 seconds?

Report Post Tip

beautiful.

"Just for curiosity's sake, what would happen if during the duel an outside person takes a shot at one of the involved players? Is someone stuck infinitely missing shots every 10 seconds?"

During the duel, both players have pro given by the dueling, which is then restored to their previous pro timer after the duel is done. Soooo once it starts, you as an outsider can not shoot at those currently dueling.

I assume there will not be a WB gun while dueling?

Report Post Tip

"I assume there will not be a WB gun while dueling?"

If the dice say you lose your gun, it does nothing and just writes it as a fail for that particular shot. You do not actually lose your gun.

Report Post Tip

I'm going to have to buy a white glove to carry around now.

Report Post Tip

Lmao, already have upper structure telling us we can't use this feature!

No dueling

Report Post Tip

Okay, er...stupid question. Do you ACTUALLY die in the game when you lose a duel?

Report Post Tip

yes, you die if you lose the duel.

Report Post Tip

I love this feature. Just one thing. When someone dies will there be something in the obits to inform their CLs/upper structure that they died from a duel? That way we wont go chasing for WS and also know this person died on their own accord.

Regardless of how your (or anyone's) upper structure feels about this feature, obviously the admin team want it in enough that they will modify it to the point where outlawing it would be ineffectual

I love this change, tbh.

Report Post Tip

This was something prevalent on the old game, albeit in a different format.

I can see a place for this, mainly because it sounds fun and cool.

Bagsy shooting Noah first.

Bagsy shooting Noah first.

Too late. Much too late!

Report Post Tip

I asked this question a few times to others and no one was sure, so I'll ask....

How do preduel BGs fair? I mean you said "Since you are facing each other in the middle of the street, both knowing what is going to happen - there is no city bonuses or fort bonuses."

Are your bodyguards standing off to the side of street not protecting you?
