Change Bodyguard Wacking to 30 Minutes Started by: Tricky_Dick on Feb 08, '13 00:24

It's all in the title really.

The pros are the same as the cons.

*Faster Wars

*Faster Gun Building

My logic for this? I am thinking that this would put more power in the hands of mid-tier hitters during a war.

If you can shoot twice an hour as a bodyguard wacker it would increase your necessity and involvement during a war hence making it more fun and interesting being a mid to low tier hitter.

This would increase engagement for the casual gamer.

Report Post Tip

Eh, but bigger guns can hit two .. or more etc etc.. That makes it go faster.. this would just be too much.

Report Post Tip

Bigger guns can hit like 1.5

You need a large gun to do that as well - I am making this suggestion for the casual player. The person that doesn't have the time to build a gun above 300+

Report Post Tip

So should the cost of BGs go down and the cap be raised? This sounds like they're being made worth less.

Report Post Tip

There's already a huge cap and 99% of the site can't hit people at the cap.

So no, you're wrong, BG's wouldn't be made worthless - just something that would make mid-low tier hitters feel more important.

I long for an MR that focuses more on large amounts of mid-low tier hitters than it does for ONE or a FEW really big hitters....

Report Post Tip

on the good side, could see wars played strategically, on the bad side i could see stealth whackers picking off bgs every 30 minutes for the lulz sadly.  I must say hard one this.

Report Post Tip

Stealthing a bodyguard isn't a 100% thing.

Doing it more often just increases the likelihood of being caught.

Report Post Tip

The cap isn't that ridiculous, and it takes into account the idea of waving BGs. I didn't say worthless... I said worth less. BGs would be worth less to the person who has them if you could wave them faster. So, no, I'm not wrong. There are tons of mid-to-low hitters who can help wave BGs. It has worked in the past etc. It wouldn't make it ... more interesting. It would just make things move faster at the cost of devaluing the protection that a bodyguard affords to the owner.

Report Post Tip

Let's look at it this way.

The tapering only goes into effect on the top ten people - that are ALSO above 650 Kills.

So you can assume that there aren't that many people that have above that - let's say 20 tops.

So in order to kill one capped person - you need someone with 650 kills (which is tough to find generally) then you need let's say... another HUNDRED or more bodyguards killed?

So to get ONE capped person in ONE wave you need ONE HUNDRED bodyguard wackers if you have one 'high tier' hitter.

And just as you didn't say worthless I never said ridiculous. It WOULD make things more interesting for those mid-low tier hitters because they would be valued at a MUCH higher rate than they currently are.

The only reason this wouldn't be a good idea would be if the new changes in bodyguards allow killing of multiple bodyguards (more than the 'you hit two' message) per shot. If that is implimented to as much as an effect as rumored - then this would be useless and perhaps overkill... otherwise? I think it would be a great idea.

Report Post Tip

I agree on this, I feel alot of times people I have brought to the game run off because hitting is interesting to them but knowing they need 700-800 kill gun to do alot of damage is too much work, this would allow anyone to put in 100 kills into their account and be of huge use during a war.

If the problem with this is building a gun faster then just taper BG kills a bit.

Report Post Tip

The other thing to consider is to make it that up until say 100 kills, you can shoot BGs at the rate of 1 every 30 mins, after that it resets back to the old 1 every hour.

I have to say though, it doesn't make any sense from a RP standpoint. Why would you be able to shoot BGs twice as fast as shooting normal people? Surely you would still have the same Hide before the cops or the mob catch you mentality?

Report Post Tip

This won't be implemented.

Report Post Tip

I wish it would.

Report Post Tip

I like this suggestion, a lot actually. Why? For a number of reasons but Whitey mentioned a little bit before I had the chance. But...

The idea of allowing more people to get involved in a war is great. Even the little guy can cause some damage to the biggest of giants. BGs right now are protection for anyone outside of their homecity (due to fortifications). Well not everyone can afford this protection and with relation to fortifications (which can be shot at every 30 minutes), why can't we allow BG shooters the same amount of time to kill a BG? Correct me if I'm wrong but I do believe 1 fortification is more beneficial than a single BG if not close to it... But then these fortifications can be shot at every 30 minutes. Its just not quite even.

We need a middle ground and thats what Whitey is shooting for.

Michael, typhon and tricky I couldn't agree with more.

I would like to see this change as it would change up wars and give everyone more to do. Also people wouldn't have to sink not nearly as many hours into the game to build a decent gun.

In the end, I love the idea that people with a ton of bgs wouldn't feel as safe as they are now.

Report Post Tip

I like this idea... at least I do while it's right before bed and I'm incredibly tired, so I may be back tomorrow morning after having an epiphany.

Besides the benefits Whitey's mentioned (and they're all solid benefits, IMO), I think this would also increase the importance and activity of pro-wackers during a war, as instead of needing them every hour, you'd need almost double the amount of pro-wackers compared to now to be able to keep up protection on hitters doing 30-minute BG waves. I think that's a nice bonus for the non-hitters.

I think it also causes more hitters needing to go unprotected, which creates greater depth of strategy and prioritizing to wars (e.g. BG wave faster and leave more hitters unprotected vs slow and steady but mostly protected, or having to prioritise and coordinate which hitters get the protection first).

This would definitely make wars (at least the BG waving aspect) a little more frantic and war-like. It does also make those mid-range guns more formidable against established/IWP'd targets. I think these things have already been talked about though.. which means I'm rambling. Goodnight.

Report Post Tip

I think the middle ground in this is looking at what it helps with in the form of what we dont want such as higher gun stat etc... and just change that so for right now you get .5 for each BG kill unless newly bought and if its every 30 minutes then do .25 to even this out.

For the shooting through more then 1 BG with a big gun, I like this aspect I do not see how it is unbalanced, if somebody can give me a reason to why a 500 kill gun cannot hit through multiple BGs then I will come back here and try to come up with a solution I believe makes sense to balance that, however I honestly do believe that effort is everything and building a cannon comes with perks such as multiple BG shooting and shooting through alot of BGs.

Report Post Tip

You can already shoot more than 1 BG at a time (Or a handful depending on their situation), and with the latest change we dramatically made BGs more expensive. So with two changes already recently done, one that increases the damage per hour and one that increases the money invested into protection lost per hour, and not a single war to test feel out the code - I feel that asking for even more is poorly timed.

If your middle man shooters are not being utilized - it is a failure of your upper structure. If they are being utilized, but feel "being a BG shooter during a war is lame" - then they have long been too spoonfed with gold and need to be reminded of their place. There is a long ladder of work to climb before you get the prestige of being trusted with huge targets.

The BG cap is already set up to automatically lower as those at the cap get their BGs shot. The last time I came to the public and asked if we should lower the cap below their current level, I was overwhelmingly shot down. So if you want a lower cap - it's already in place, and will auto ratchet down to about 50 below our current level if anyone ever decides to take advantage of that situation.

Report Post Tip

I do not think you can expect a war with a new code being put in, alot of our activity and userbase is dependant on not warring, everytime a huge war happens we lose people and they stop playing and with the new districts coming in I think it is time to start building as people will be interested in this new feature.

I think you are missing the point of this Izzy, it is not we are asking for more per say, it is we are wanting the middle man to be able to do more then they can right now, asking somebody who works, has a real life, possibly kids and a family to build a 500 gun just to do damage is crazy, and the game would attract alot more people if their was somewhat more balance to the way wars work.

At this day and age people can live 3 months or longer without ever actually shooting at a real target so to build a 100 kill gun in 3 months is easily done even for the most busy person. This allowing people to not build as much to still be useful, along with the new BG system pricing in the future will make 100 kill guns actually more worthwhile then they are at this point. All of this leads to a better experience for the middle man while still giving a motive for building a cannon.

Report Post Tip

BG wackers are already considered an important role. If the mid-level tier guys don't already feel this way, shooting 2x more isn't going to change that feeling. During the first half of my existence, I was regularly given BG duty from the onset of the war. This was my role, and I knew that it served a purpose. Any truly dedicated person knows that the BGed people are the prime targets, and weakening them is by far the most important thing you can do.

Also, Izzy makes a wonderful point. With the new changes, as BGs will be killed, they will not be replaced like they were in the past. This is HUGE. This by itself will cut down several hours from previous wars. Buying 10hp BGs during a time of war would be pointless, and the IWP people would not be able to keep up their protection like in the past.
