Two deaths and a mission. (open RP) Started by: Vince_DiMartelli on Dec 16, '08 20:00
Vince_DiMartelli stood at the Church of our redeemer looking over the mess the last bloody war had caused. He didn't know who started it, he didn't care who started it, all he knew was that his family was dead. And now, he might have to kill the only blood kin left to him.

Word had gotten back to Vince through some of the men and women of the streets that his brother Mikey was loose again, and wielding the Baby Eagle that matched his own with abandon. Already he had started to creep into places that Vince had once hung out making him Persona non grata with the natives, when the bullets came back to his gun.

Vince checked his clip, not many bullets left. There was a soft sound behind him and he turned to see his little sister Lilly. "Mikey is bad man, you know this vince." Her accent was strong with the italian the spoke in the house. "He goes to people you respect saying he is you, remember, he has always been the better actor, and he kills them with the mate to Justice."

She nodded at the pistol which was now in the holster under his arm. He sighed. "Since Papa died in this war, I don't know that I have anything left except you and Mikey."

"Vince, now you have to choose, me or mikey, because I can't handle another night like the last few. Either you stop him or I'm calling uncle matt."

Those words told him he was defeated. Uncle Matt, his godfather, permanent guardian, was also a cop. He wasn't Compare anymore. He didn't care if his uncle had been made He wasn't Family anymore. The only reason he wasn't dead was that he was still occasionally useful, and he had made a name for himself among the police forces.

If his Godfather suddenly went missing they would move heaven and earth to find him. And, he knew, more than anything, his Godfather wanted to protect the twins and their secrets.

"Ok Lilly." Vince kissed his sister on the head, something he hadn't done in years, but sometimes she still reminded him of the child he had saved. "The bus is waiting, you need to go back home, and I'll deal with Mikey, this is nothing for you to be involved in."

"Be safe."

She turned and walked a few steps away, unsure of what else to say. "Remember your Motto Vince. That's all it comes down to. Is he really willing to pay?"

Vince nodded and watched his sister walk out. He didn't know if he would ever see her again. But he knew right now he had a mission, a single mission. To find his brother and, if he had to, kill him.

He shrugged his suitcoat, now a bit more threadbare on and then his long coat and turned to leave the Church. A shadow fell over him from his right. And, unsure of what to think he looked up to see the figure.

As most chicagoans, he was dressed in a heavy black coat, with a hat pulled down over his face. Vince waited for the figure to speak.
Report Post Tip
Rourkey spoke.

"You got any spare change for the bus?"

Rourkey hovered over the unknown mobster. Rourkey rattled his cup and hoped the man would drop in a few coins. Rourkey spoke again.

"Hey buddy! Spare some change?"
Report Post Tip
Vince idly pulled a few coins out of his pocket and dropped them in the cup. "go get yourself something warm."

Vince turned to walk out the door only to find the man still blocking his way.
Report Post Tip
Rourkey spoke again.

"Yo buddy, I asked for some change and all you gave me was a button and a thumbtack. What gives?"

Rourkey shook his cup right in the man's face this time, much more aggressively than the previous time.

"Let's be honest, I am as broke as a joke. I need this cash to get home to my wife Aurora. Are you going to help me out or not?"
Report Post Tip
Vince looked at the man in front of him and reached into his pocket again. He pulled out a handful of small coins and one large golden Double-eagle. He plucked the double-eagle out of the handful and dumped the entire handful into the cup, saving the gold one which went into his breast pocket.
Report Post Tip
Rourkey was thankful for the man's generosity and kissed him once on each cheek.

"Thank you good sir! Thank you! Thank you! This will buy me bus tickets for the entire week!"

Rourkey rushed off to catch the nearest bus and return to his humble abode and pregnant wife Aurora.
Report Post Tip
Vince shook his head and patted the pocket where his double-eagle coin was, whatever was out there it would bring him good luck or bad luck. He walked out of the Church, got into his borrowed car and drove across town to a local dive where he knew a lot of Family people hung out. He took a table near the back and sat down with a stiff drink. Now he had to find out what he was going to do about his brother. He was just about to leave when an ominous shadow crossed the table. A figure stood over him, its glare menacing. Vince took a deep breath and addressed the figure.

"Good evening, Can I buy you a drink?"
Report Post Tip
The figure shook its head not coming any closer, that was about the time Vince decided that something was wrong and started to try and get up to leave. Only then did the figure take a seat, and when he did, Vince saw that he held a gun. "What can I do for you?" Vince was suddenly aware of his own accent again. He knew he had to sound like any other dumb guido. "Looking for Big Mike."

Vince cursed under his breath. "Big Mike's been dead almost twenty years."

The figure sat for a moment taking him in. "And who are you to know that?"

"I'm Vincent DiMartelli, one of his boys."

The figure nodded and put something down on the table. Vince's hand shook as he saw it. He knew a wire when he saw one. "I want you to get Mr Steele on tape."

"Steele? You mean my Godfather? Why?"

"Let's just say he has some interesting friends we would like to know."

"I can't do that."

"I'll give you a couple of days to think about it. But kid, everyone eventually does what I want. Either you give me Steele or I give the guys wanting your brother you. You upset quite a few things going after Mikey."

And with that the figure was gone, leaving Vince with a lot to think about. Which was why he was startled when someone else approached him.

Sal had been in the pub the whole time, business called for this quarter of town and he had seen his paisan Vincent stroll in, perhaps doing his old business.

Sully walks up to Vincent's table, before taking he seat, he comments on the man's appearance.

"I know you've got a lot on your plate, but hell you need some sleep you old zoccola."

Sal leans over and hugs his friend, exchanging kisses to the cheeks.

"My condolences friend." He pulled out the seat and made himself comfortable.
Report Post Tip
"Thanks, means a lot coming from you. It looks like Mikey's getting me in trouble again. As to some place to lay my head, Don't have one I trust right now. Half the city is out to get me because Mikey has them believing that he's me, papa and Papa's boss are dead, no help there... sigh. Have you been to the old neighborhood lately?"

Vince, to tell the truth looks like he hadn't slept in a week and more than one square meal had passed him by. "All I got to my name right now is that heap of metal, and this one." He patted his coat where his gun lay. "Nothing else to my name right now."

Vince sighed. "Damn fed's been hastling me. Want me to try and take down Mr Steele. Not sure you remember him, big guy, black sunglasses, always had the habit of being there just in time to pull our asses out of the fire. Him. And if I don't they say they will turn me over to the guys hunting Mikey."
Report Post Tip
Sal lets out a sigh, he understood the man was deep in problems, but Vincent was a good man, good for his own business. He felt bad for his friend's troubles, and how circumstance could curse someone so badly. He leaned back, his mannerism shifted.

"You've got alot on your plate friend, let me tell you something. You can't let your problems push you around. You need to take charge. Sometimes, it's just you and your wits really. Ever since I've gotten the pen, I've kept this concept to mind. It's good to have people around you that, you can rely on and hell, you can't make it through life alone, but ultimately, it's you who decides what your going to do about your own demons."
Report Post Tip
Vince flagged down a waitress who informed him that his sister had paid his tab in advance and so whatever he and his friend wanted was already paid for. Vince ordered some food and relaxed with his best friend.

"So I hear you just got sprung from the state farm. I take it nothing is any better than when I went." Vince dug into his food. "Any idea where a guy can go for some fun and finance?"
Report Post Tip
Sal smiled at Vincent's query. His arrangements had been made, and hell, he could use another hand and potentially cannon for the trip.

"I've always been one for mixing pleasure and business." He shook his rocks glass and then nursed his bourbon.

"You know, this stuff is gold, it really is. People will pay alot to get it, the number one drug in America, well for that's what we stick to, you West Coast boys are more outside of the box, but Our Thing has it's rules."

He carried on, interrupting Vincent.

"I've got some transaction taking place, some goods moving around, and I could use you as an insurance policy. What do you say, it would keep your mind off of the past week or so, something to clear your mind you know?
Report Post Tip
Vince smiled. "So long as you have ammo for this hand-cannon of mine. I've had to watch my shots." Vince cleaned his plate and sat back with his own drink. "And, unless you got someone else in mind, I can get you a car. Or two, or three..." Vince's skill with autos was nearly legendary among his friends. He always seemed to know which ones to get and which ones not to. Good horses and not too flashy so the cops don't look twice.

"Lord knows I could use a diversion." Vince said as he held up his glass. "To business and pleasure."
Report Post Tip
He laughed

"We're fine with the motors, nothing too fancy, you know, the authority should be fine with what we've got, but the attention of the other authorities in the area, if you know what I mean. Can't pay off everyone right?"
He finished his drink, and reached behind him, to retrieving his scarf, he ties it around his neck, preparing for the elements awaiting.

"I'll warm the car up."
Report Post Tip
Vince finished his drink, waited a few minutes and walked out, hoping that the uneasy feeling would go away, but his luck was rarely that good. He absently patted the gun he carried, still feeling like someone was watching him. He got into the waiting car, and didn't look back.

"So, what's our plan?"
Report Post Tip
Sal put the car in gear and stepped the on the throttle, the car jerked forward, clearing the accumulating snow and they were on they're way.

"Simply business as usual, a shipment of Canadian Whiskey ready to be "picked up" in Buffalo. It's been awhile since, we've seen each other, good opportunity to reconnect "EH?" He said, smiling and laughing towards the end.
Report Post Tip
Vince smiled. "Yeah, long time since we got together. Anyone else coming for the ride?" Vince looks out the window as the familiar chicago skyline goes by. "Sal, we got a place to reload? I'm short on ammo and I've got a really bad feeling that I'm being tailed."
Report Post Tip
Glanced in the rear-view

"Just a few of my guys behind us, nothing to worry about, what are you packing?"
Report Post Tip
Vince smiled. "Just my baby." Vince patted the eagle under his coat. "I'm one light though. Mikey has the other one."

Vince shrugged again. He knew that sal told him they were his guys, but still, he had the bad feeling something was wrong. "Qualcosa torto, profondo nella mia anima che la ritengo." Vince muttered. "Got a smoke?" Vince didn't often smoke but he figured he'd indulge in his one vice.
