| How many people in your family? | Started by: FrankieFigs on Jan 02, '09 15:31 |

PG: I agree with you. Like I said before, just because someone is qualified doesn't mean they are the best person for the job. Dark: Why the hell not? After read the Essay that my LHM wrote i would have given him his own family if I could. The thing is its not all procedure...as I have said, its about passion. I was ALLOWED to take two people with me. My RH and my LH. Due to some extenuating circumstance I acquired another Wiseguy. Now I have me, my Beautiful RH and two wiseguys. the one wiseguy Earned the LHM position through a contest that was more like a job interview. the second I appropriated. It just so happens that no matter how qualified or how much i think someone deserves being Made, I have to wait for the gods to think it's right. To suggest that I am a hypocrite because I made someone other than my LH is silly, and frankly how I run my family is none of your business. What I said is how i feel. MY LH's responsibilities may not be the same as your families LHM position. Mirage: Now thats just silly. Flip it around. how about not being old enough or having snatched enough purses to allow for a promotion you already deserve, gets you tossed out of a position you are more qualified for that the one thats spends all day snatching purses? AGAIN. Just because a person is qualified doesn't mean they are the best for the job. If they were, you would be a LHM. Muqtada: I don't disagree with you. I'm trying to display how important becoming a Made Man is. I know in my history that I would display my Family Name, but when Prozac made me, I would show that I was a Proud Member of the family. Even if I was considered a member long before the Made Man status came about |

*DJ leans against a lamp-post listening to this fascinating deliberation over the difference between someone who is a friend of mine and someone who is a friend of ours. He can't help but think to himself about the accounts he read in his ancestors journals about the whole mystique of becoming made. The cermonies themselves were mostly quite elaborate; but more to the point was that, in reading their journals it became apparant that being made was far from being just another promotion to just another rank. It was the induction into the family proper and it came with both tremendous rights and tremendous responsabilities. It was also apparant that these men had worked tirelessly to prove themselves over and over again before even being considered for the honour. It seemed romantic; but there was more to it than that. These were men who had proved themselves beyond the shadow of a doubt to be true men of honour. Well, things always seem to sound like they were better in the "good old days"; but somehow it seemed that there was more than that here. It is very, very difficult to reach the point that you know someone well enough to truly trust them with your life. It seems that in the old days you would have found it much easier to find people to trust in this thing of ours because you could rest assured that anyone who was made had been held up to high enough standards to warrant your complete trust. Of course how complete that trust would still be dependent on how completely you trusted the family heads of the day. Another thing that had struck DJ while reading these journals was that the ceremonies seemed to involve members not only of their own family, but of all the families. The conclusion that one could extrapolate from this is that ALL of the families were involved in the decision to give a man his button, that somehow that man had had to obtain the trust of ALL of the families. No small thing that! He wanted to speak out and join the discussions. Being a made man himself it would seem that he was of sufficient stature to be allowed to speak; however he decided to hold back as he felt somehow uncomfortable discussing these things in such a public place. True enough we own these streets and can control what happens here; but still...it just didn't feel right. DJ is also somewhat bemused by the discussion of people being ordered around by persons of lower rank. Somehow it seems to have escaped them that rank in and of itself doesn't represent the entire make-up of a man; it especially does not represent the connections that he may have and the true power he may wield as a result. Most certainly if your family head tells you that someone is acting on their behalf and that in their absence this person should be treated as if they were him (or her), well what part don't they get. My boss has told me how to treat this man and that is exactly what I will do. , n'est pas? Well, not wanting to attract too much public attention DJ decides to take a walk over to IRC avenue where he can perhaps discuss this with the appropriate people in a more convivial atmosphere.* |

Low blow there, Frankie. Insults are my cue to leave debates. Forget what I said before. I agree with you and everyone else about everything. |

| not meant to be a low blow. just meant to make a point. it seems i did. I only meant that by being a made man doesn't mean you have to be LHM, your family would have 9 LHM positions if that were the case...its just not realistic. | |
