Disrespect At Funerals Started by: Guardian on Jan 06, '09 16:27
Sooo, as everyone's voices are flowing.

Everyone agrees they should die for disrespect.. Now i ask.. If someone does disrespect and their CL isn't about. Should they be dealt swiftly by someone else for there actions or be allowed to roam the streets for hours on end?Or is it a matter of what rank they are?

For instance today a friend of mine was killed and someone disrespected his funeral, should i have the patience and wait for the guilty person's CL to appear ?Or take action into my own hands?

Just a thought.

I'd like to believe that I'd be some sort of hero for avenging my good friend's disrespect, but I know if I were to shoot at a mafioso in another family, I would be executed swiftly for breaking my family's rules. I am fairly certain that most if not all of the other families have such rules in place for their family members shooting at sponsoreds in another clan.

Even if I were a leader, I doubt I would take action against another family. Too often I have seen bloodshed result from one mafioso attacking another. It is how society has been crafted these days. The leaders are responsible for policing their own and any attack on their family is constituted as an "act of war."
Report Post Tip
That's a tough question to answer. Personally, I think you, as a family head, should be able to take it into your own hands. But that's easy to say. If there's a leader who accepts another leader killing one of their members, that leader is stupid. Or senile. So on one end of the spectrum, yes, you should be allowed to deal with it yourself. Why should that person be allowed to live for a couple of hours or even days just because their family is away on business. But on the other end, how would you feel if you returned home to discover one or a few of your members were killed in cold blood because of what they said at a funeral. You may agree they deserved death, but you would feel that you should have been the one to take care of it.

This probably doesn't answer your question very much

I believe Rourkey has summed up my thoughts on this quite nicely, didn't even have to ask him to do it so hats off to you my good man.

Unless a member of another family posses an immediate threat, they should not be touched by anyone outside of their own family. Now, there may from time to time be the odd exception to this depending on the severiority of the disrespect, but in 99% of cases the matter should be dealth with by the disrespectful mafiosa's family.

This has been the rule in this thing of ours for generations and it will continue to be the rule by which we stand. A crewleader, be they godfather, Don or any other ranking within our system, has the protection on every member of their family until they say otherwise.

Shall we laugh at the ridiculous amounts of unworthy trash on the streets? Or how about when a leader is a doppleganger and got caught, or maybe that person is an utter useless twat. Either way a nice laugh is the way to go.

I'm glad, but not terribly surprised, to see my LHM and I (and KingOfOnePercent) are of the same mind on these matters. In short, if someone in my family disrespects a funeral they're going to be dead as soon as I find out. I take being respectful 'dead' serious, and there's no greater disrespect than at a funeral. That being said, it is not OK for someone else to police my family's ranks. If you have a grievance with one of my family members you should take it up with me or my RHW/LHM except in the rare occasion that there is an imminent threat.
Report Post Tip
Ehrm, to clarify just in case. I mean an imminent threat we're not around to take care of, of course. Though that should go without saying.

Well i agree with Guardian both times Disrespect at funreals is just wrong, wrong to the point where they should then die for it ok it might not always be wise to take the disrespect into your own hands and kill then in my opion yes they should be killed of course they should but dont go killing them yoursleves let someone more Senior do it like a CL or RHM because at least then you wont get the blame if you kill then for saying something you think is disrespectful and everyone else thinks not including CL's for

Example : Ripples ~

some people might find this disrespectful if they are new around here so then they would kill that person for being disrespectful but acctuly its not all it is its a diffrent way of saying R.I.P ok ripple might be faster to type but R.I.P is something that would most likely occur at funreals more but on thing that does make me angry at funreal is when someone puts

rip

at a funreal i mean to me thats a little disrespectful not much but just a little because its just not nice to start as a next of kin and see rip at your fathers/mothers funreal i mean you could at least have the decencey to put it into capitals i know everyone is very capable of doing that i have seen many people with capitals in there quote so in my opion if you think or see disrespect at a funreal go speak with a CL who is online and take it further from there dont take it into your own hands because you might make the wrong desicion and then that can only result in your own death then. So bascily if your gonna go to a funreal and just put rip then please for the love of god put it in capitals as its more respectful i mean you dont go to your nearest cemetry and see rip on someone grave stone its always RIP or R.I.P or Rest In Peace.

This is my point of the situation on funreals as i feel that 'rip' is not nice and something there next of kin would not want to see on there fathers/mothers gravestone.

I have to say that I disagree with the notion that leaving a simple rest in peace at ones funeral is bad form. Using myself as an example, I just visited the funeral home where a member of my family was being viewed. Now I was not personally close to this person, but he was an honored, made member of my family who served the family, my don and my godmother well. For this alone, I owe it to him, his bloodlines and our family to pay my respects and attend his funeral, as well leave my respectful wishes for him to lay in peace. Nothing more, but certainly nothing less.
Report Post Tip
Yes you should wait. Unless that person is shooting or causing your family any direct harm then it should be left to that persons family to deal with it. Killing another families member when your family is in no danger, to me is a sign of disrespect to the opposing CL.

Although the person was your friend this does not give you the right to eliminate another families member. Should we all act out like this, the entire community would always be at war. Communication is the key to good business.

Bkstyle you probly didnt get what i meant, i mean if your going to go to a funreal and put 'rip' then put it in caps, i didnt mean everyone should go to a funreal and put RIP, most people put more then R.I.P as of course your paying your respects even more but there is always the odd person who just turns up and puts 'rip'. I was just saying that it should at least be in capitals as you dont see 'rip' on the gravestones in Real Life.
Report Post Tip
DK, paisano. Forgive me for not making myself clear. I was not responding to anything that you had said. In fact I can understand your arguments for capitalizing RIP for those you wish to honor by giving them those wishes. My comments were more so in response to something that Signori HarveyDent had said regarding people just placing a simple RIP and no accompanying novel behind it means those people are just using it as an opportunity to look good amongst his fellow mobsters. That is false and overly cynical, even to myself, a cynical native New Yorker.

Slamming down his finished cigarette as he steps forward, DCIAC tosses is two cents in...

I agree with all of you who have stated that disrespect is undeserved by anyone at funerals, and should not, and hopefully now, will not be tolerated.

That being said, and I was happy to see that you weren't referring to only the most recent incident, I don't feel that death in this thing of ours pays all debts. There are some debts that run deeper than six feet under which cannot be paid by lying in a pine box. I have seen many people speak about what happened with JohnD, but everyone has skirted around the issue. The fact of the matter is that many people trusted him and looked up to him, and he let them down be attempting to profits in personal gain. I personally feel that something that dishonorable is not payable just by death, considering the respected position he was in.

That being said, there is always room for forgiveness for everyone. I will not be so vain as to believe I know even one tenth of the information about the scenario which took place. I did feel it was dishonorable, and it did cut me deep to see what happened, but did you see me speaking out at his funeral? Of course not. I went and paid my respects silently and honorably. What people in this thing of ours too often forget is that things that we say in any of our public forums can, and will, be seen by all. They think they can get away with spitting at someone's face, and I applaud Guardian for taking action. After having said that some debts are not payable just by death, laughing at someone's funeral, no matter why they are in a coffin, is one of those offenses.

As he turned towards whence he came, DCIAC flipped his card to Guardian, which fluttered sofly down to land face down on the toes of his well appointed shoes...

Give me a call if you see more of this going on, I'd love to help you make an example of disrepectful "men" in this thing of ours!

...but by the time Guardian had picked up the card, DCIAC was gone, a flash of light of his holstered .308, and a puff of smoke from a fresh cigarette the only signs he as ever there at all.

I agree with the statement: Once you're dead, you're dead - all debts are paid. Disrespect at funerals chaps my hide. And the result of such disrespect is that you should have your own funeral. But should you be killed the first time you disrespect somebody at a funeral? Or should your crewleader give you a warning first? Or has this topic been discussed so much that it should be clear to anyone that disrespect at a funeral is not acceptable? So many questions. My head hurts now.

Walks away rubbing his temples

Howey hears the speech given by Guardian, and steps back as he feels sick. He thinks to himself 'How could anyone do such a thing?'

"I totally agree, anyone seen to be disresptcing a dead person, should be shot as soon as. Not matter if they are a leader,RHM,Capo,LHM whatever they are they should be killed." Howey turns around and slowly walks away.

Disrespect at a funeral hurts the ones who are already hurting the most........Lets face it if you dish a deceased person they don't hear it but their loved ones and family DO......And they are already hurting so why rub salt in a open wound.....

If the deceased did not touch so many lives for good then so many would not be attending the funeral..........

You can tell a deceased persons life by the amount of condolences shown at the funeral..........

That's my what my father used to say. I was the only one at his funeral. I wonder what that says about him.

bkstyle,

Thank you for your response. Good to know my words aren't falling on def ears on this street.

While my words may be harsh, I stand by them. People seem to jump to the conclusion that I believe everyone should be giving speeches and narrating novels. Those that jump to that conclusion worry me. When I say people merely giving a casual "rip" at a funeral are just making/saving face, that may be a bit exaggerated. I understand paying respects to fallen family members, especially those of a Made Man rank or higher. In fact I applaud it and would endorse it if I could. But my point is, if you TRULY respect this individual, surely you could think of something more to say.

I'm not one to dictate what should and shouldn't happen, but I can only hope you get my point.
