I see many people coming to the streets today ranting and raving about how to pick a leader and what are good qualities or a leader. You all bring up very good points every now and then with these discussions. And I am here to talk about auth as well. My family line crossed the giant pond 8 months ago to this new land. In my forefathers journals i can read of such figures as Scotland, Anita, Piggeh, Sylence, Legacy and many other well known leaders. I read of wars, of discussions, of deception, many things you would expect to see in this life of ours. My point is this, these people were looked at with honor, respect, and held the upmost pride and dignity in their position as a family head. They weren't mearly picked because they were some lucky fucking contestant winner. You know I woke up this morning, got out of bed, went about my day, and read up on the news. Come to find out Mr. Rock_Lee will be announcing the mystery prize sometime today. Needless to say i was rather excited, so i sent my errand boy to keep an eye on things and update me as soon as possible. Then I'm told that the mystery prize for this ninja contest is a chance at running your own family!!!! Get the fuck out!!! Are you serious??? Could the leaders actually think this a good idea??? Sure! lets auth someone who can solve a riddle within 24 hours. No where in any of these speeches that any of you have made did i ever read anything about a good leader is one who can solve riddles and strike fast like a fucking ninja. Now, no disrespect to Mr. Rock_Lee and the contest, i for one thought it is a great idea and it is definitely promoting street interaction. But coming to the streets used to be a requirement for auth, not a physical one but it was understood. And participating in one damn contest does not qualify as getting your name out there! And please don't get me wrong it's not that i think the participants wouldn't make good leaders. I know most of the contestants well and they are developing into fine mafiosi. But a leader should be hand picked for there ability to lead, to communicate, to decide, to stand up. They should be picked because they are respected and well known through out the community. Well i've said my piece, thank you all for listening. |

I absolutely agree with you. Being able to solve puzzles and go on little adventures has nothing to do with one's ability to lead a family. The honor of running a family ought to go to someone truly deserving that has earned that right. This isn't to say that none of the participants in the family are unworthy of the position. I should hope that their family heads are already aware of their abilities, though. They shouldn't have to jump through hoops. How is this the Mafia? When I agreed to participate in the contest, it was solely for the adventure and the prize money. I wanted to boost activity in the streets and have some fun in the process. I'm doing that, but I feel sick at the notion that I'm now competing for auth. No one in my family line has been properly given auth, and I don't want it like this. If I win, I'll take the cash, but find some other joke to set up. |

Isn't it a bit late for this? I mean, I just ate four fucking boxes of cereal. I deserve my auth, goddamn it. And somebody call a physician, I think I'm going blind... |

Some contests are valid ways to determine auth. There have been numerous competitions in the past that have tested the ability of Mafiosi to lead or, at least, survive. As Mr Mexico has just demonstrated, though, some skills aren't needed to run a family. Shouldn't we be testing those skills? I'm hoping that Mr Lee transforms his contest in light of the "mystery prize" into something that will require the candidates to show their worth not as a ninja, but as a crew leader. Perhaps he's already taken this into account and we're jumping the gun to bring this up, but I don't want to see a crew leader put in place simply because he or she is able to count words in a bar thread. |

| I, like Lucks, joined this contest for the fun and to be honest, for the chance to win the huge prize money that awaits the winner. Personally, I do not want to be remembered as the man who became a leader by winning a contest. No disrespect to Rock_Lee, the ninja contest is a good idea, the auth as prize in my opinion deserve a second look. Also, I am not saying that the participants of the contest do not deserve an auth, all I'm saying is that it would be better if the auth was granted by other means and not thru a contest. | |

I don't think there's a such thing as jumping the gun on this one, Lucks. I want to kill this idea as soon as possible. I want it to die long before it matures and has a chance to reproduce. I would stomp the shit out of the idea that lead to the idea that lead to this idea. |

I entered Mr. Lee's contest because of the money. At the time, no one knew what his "secret prize" was, now we know its to run their own family. I wasn't intreseted in that prize to begin with, nor am I now. The only reason I care about the money is I know of several fine mafiosi that want to be authed and I want to make sure they have the money to do so. My family's bloodline has been in this world for a very long time. Never once has one been inspired to lead, but to make sure those that want to and are capable of leading got their chance. Same goes for me. This evening I picked up the paper and saw Mr Lee had announced the secret prize. I was somewhat intreseted and then disgusted at what it was. So the ability to count is all the current CLs are looking for in a new leader? So the 7th word in this thread is so and so, I should get my own family! Is that what we want to show the new people arriving on our shores everyday? Personally, I think its dispecable that the next CLs challenge only takes a 1st grade education. |

| So in short, what I'm trying to say is, if I win this ninja contest by some chance, you will still have to find another auth. I will not accept it. | |

Who knows what Mr Lee has planned for the rest of the contest. Maybe it will become survival of the fittest with people who are involved being given clues on the identity of the person they are supposed to assasinate. We could end up with only one live member left who will be skilled in many ways. A good gun, vocal on the streets and able to command respect. |

| I don't think it's fair to begin hurling insults at the current leaders for this. The announcement was unofficial so is clearly still up in the air. There's no way to say for certain if it will be solidified or not. I hope the discontent shown here will have the crew leaders revisit the discussion down the street to search for more appropriate ideas for selecting a candidate for auth. | |

When I want your opinion on this subject Animal, I'll beat it out of you. If you want us to rule with an iron fist then sobeit. I just thought people would be appreciateive that we're trying something different. Anyone who continues to blatantly disrespect me or my fellow leaders in this poster will be shot. Then you will come crying to me about "freedom of speech". You have none, you're a nothing, a nobody and after seeing some people post here, you always will be a nobody around here while I'm alive. |

Oh and btw.. If you haven't even been following the contest, then you should know that the winner of it is judged to have been the best roleplayer/street speaker we have. So it's not "just another fucking competition". I am going to have words with Oliver about some of you. You should what you say about certain people that... in an instant are ready to rip your fucking head off. |

Being the best speaker doesn't mean that much to me to be honest. Well, aside from the fact that the term obviously describes myself. Oratorical prowess is hardly any way to pick a leader. After all, that's how we end up with senators, governors, presidents that can't even rid the streets of scum like us. The degradation of auth is the issue here. I simply don't want to see it as being handed out as a "gold star" of sorts. It's the only bit of the old way that I really still bought into -- that auth was the polar opposite of random. That these things were decided through careful analysis and planning, and discussion. Not by some guy standing on a street corner handing out arbitrary errands. Still, I'd rather be flogged with half a dozen rabid alligators than to see this idea come to fruition. |

When did you come into a position of power to auth someone? Oh, you haven't... I don't care if street speaking is high on your agenda of picking auths. It is on mine and I'm the only one of us 2 in a position to do it, so this renders the rest of your argument irrelevant. And just a note... Rock_Lee is NOT picking the auth. It is being judged by someone totally neutral, but in a position of power. So before you know the full story, how about you shut the fuck up? |

Yes, my ideals about proper auth are, as of yet, untainted by having come into power, having had no good ideas, and having grown bored with it. Great point. You've got me there. Seriously, for someone so keen on street presence, why do you join us lowly street urchins and insist that we listen to what you have to say, then tell us to shut the fuck up when we voice opinions on a subject? I also couldn't give a shit who's selecting an auth based upon such a flawed system. Then again, I'm not supposed to, right? If the "whole story" really doesn't matter, why should I bother finding it out? |

| I have no problems when you are voicing your opinions. But the earlier posts in this thread were blatant slating of us ALL. Therefore, anything you continue to say in this poster will be met with disdane. Do you REALLY have that short a memory? | |

Yes, in as much as I try not to let the issue of an hour ago affect the issue of the present. The conversation has evolved a bit, and I see no reason to not allow it. |
