One City, One Godfather Started by: Montenegro on Mar 16, '14 19:32

Sound just about right, doesn't it?

[There might be some suggestions which have already been posted somewhat on the lines of this, but none explaining its possibilities and limitations, as far as I've checked.]

The idea is very simple. It is indeed quite ridiculous to find 3 to 5 Godfathers in one city. Ideally, one city should fall under the governance of a single Godfather alone.

Districts have already been implemented, there's no changing that. But there is a way how this idea can work.

When a CL challenges the GF and triumphs, he becomes the GF of the entire city. His powers remain the same as always, instead his (role-played) control would be over the city as a whole. The "home city" in his profile would no longer show a particular district but will only have the city's name. There would always be a question of too many sub-crews under one GF, etcetera, but then the number of crews per district can be limited to two; an underboss and a captain.

Sure, this would mean more wars, but isn't that the beauty of it? The game would be much more interesting and stagnancy wouldn't be a problem.

This would also require the addition of a few more cities, and the removal of a few districts, in time. I'm sure some of us would kill to have STL, NO, LV and LA back. (Yes, this has been suggested earlier as well, but without a solid reason)

As far as coding is concerned, I've seen more complex things being coded, so this shouldn't be a problem. But with the extent the game would be affected by this, I can't tell how hard this would be to implement.

Anyways, just a suggestion. Any thoughts on this?

The point of removing one GF per city was that it gives CLs the freedom to choose their overlord themselves rather than game being the one to choose. Also I disagree with the capo dei capi title and I believe a city should be ruled by all the GFs having equal power.

Report Post Tip

Is it much different now? I mean, what was once a city, is now a district: one godfather, 3 sub-crews at max, the only major difference being the travel time. The districts are bound together by an apparent "morale" which helps them stick together in making decisions, etc. And they eventually end up warring each other.

Report Post Tip

You still haven't given an argument about why that is bad.

Report Post Tip

Never said it was. Was just countering your argument as to how the game hasn't gotten any better since the change.

Also, this idea makes more sense when role-played. And this IS a role playing game, if I'm right.

Report Post Tip

What you're suggesting is that once the CL beats the NPC GF and attains the title, he/she should be automatically crowned GF of entire city. However that goes against roleplaying, doesn't it? If the game decides who should be the big boss rather than the players, then it's no real roleplaying is it?

Report Post Tip

No, the CLs in the city would still have to decide who challenges the GF in the first place, won't they?

Report Post Tip

You don't see my point here. Head of city should be an oral title, not made official by the game itself but by the players. Like it's done now. If we say that, for example, there are 5 GFs in NY: A, B, C, D, and E and everyone decides that A should be the leader, the job's done, he's the leader. There's no need for affirmation by killing the NPC GF, it's already been decided. If A decides to step down, the title would be able to change hands without needing to kill A. Maybe the city decides not to have a leader. Maybe they are not trying to be united but every district for itself. No GF would be necessary then.

Report Post Tip

So if a single GF stands as city head, what's the purpose of the remaining "godfathers" then? Is it simply for the sake of everyone having a taste of the so very esteemed rank?

Report Post Tip

The meaning of the rank has been changed to fit the district system. My point is that the head of city should not be a separate rank from other leaders, but the first among equals. King of kings, if you like. Holds the same title as the rest but more power.

Besides, realistically the term Godfather is a term to describe a Mafia boss and it was invented by Mario Puzo. In his novel only Vito Corleone is called Godfather but he is probably the least powerful mob boss in New York City in the book and movie.

I think this would make the game a lot more interesting, and more enjoyable as a result. Like the good old days.

Seems to me that you're trying to undermine my idea, lol. Tbh it was just a suggestion, and yes you've made it quite clear, mate. Point noted, I'm just gathering views here. What I've suggested seemed quite ideal at a certain perspective and I wanted to see what people had to say about it. Thank you for lending me your thoughts :)

Salutations to Montenegro from Serbia, lol :)

While personally I would prefer to see districts gone, as I believe the game has become steadily worse since they came in, I would back at least this change. I would like to see cities capped at 3 districts each with a maximum of crews in each and perhaps more cities to open rather than districts, with only one Godfather per city as an alternative to getting rid of districts, but honestly I just feel like the districts experiment has failed.

Report Post Tip

I must say I agree to this to an extent. I don't like the districts, when they were first implemented I was all for them. But, they have made the game a lot worst than it was. I'd must rather just go back to 8 different cities and take the districts out all together. Then there would be 1 godfather per city but there would be no districts.

I understand some people prefer the districts but for those of you that do I'd like to know why you prefer them over the individual cities?

Report Post Tip

U're talking about in the game or in real life?

Report Post Tip

In any case my opinion is Godfathers r there to make it's life that prevails...

Report Post Tip

Titus, with the amount of time and work put into making the transition from just being cities to having districts, I don't think Izzy would be up for going back the way we were. Our best hopes can't lie there mate.

Report Post Tip
Realism and roleplaying, Titus.
Report Post Tip

If I am remembering correctly, this was supposed to be how the districts were going to be set up. That is with one central district for each city that made the most money and would house the GF. Each satellite district could have a GF but the one who controlled the center district was the de facto head of the city.

I agree with the other comments that I don't like the districts as they stand. I think it was meant to be a transition phase until we got the formal graphic based districts...but as it is we are kind of in limbo.
