| Everything I Learned About Leadership | Started by: NikkiPhoenix on Feb 07, '09 18:04 |

...I learned from you guys. And that's a pretty big concession. Being female, as many of you with "Y" chromosomes will attest to, I was born knowing everything and yet, each and every day that passes I learn something new about leadership and what it takes to be bold in this society. LOYALTY Oh man, where do I start? I've learned that family isn't really an unbreakable bond after all, and that blood is only thicker than water unless intoxicated with a BAC % of 10 or more. (That's Blatant Asininity Content, for you all out in pew pew pew land). Let see. For starters, its okay to betray a former family member and esteemed cabinet member later in life as long as you THEN betray the ally you joined to take your former family member down. Two wrongs make a right? Right? Also, loyalty to your current family is okay to abandon so long as you have a shiny new headquarters to pack your shit and move into. Who cares if its wartime and your crewleader is MIA. You've gotta move on up, the East Side. Even if you haven't earned your piece of the pie. Oh, and if your old family needs help, since no one in charge is around, its okay. They can still know how to contact you. And its not like they're dying that quickly anyway. AUTHORIZATION Who the fuck needs it? Just go rogue. At best you'll just get retroactively authed anyway, and at worst, it'll be like looking for a gerbil in the hamster cage. With everyone running around in a bold suit, kinda puts the bold look out of fashion. Unbold is now the new black. Unbold and above the rank of Made Man and you should be able to apply for your next promotion under the premise of affirmative action. COMMUNICATION Oh dear Lord, the great debate. Should leaders come out to the streets to publicly announce their plans or rehash old conversations? Should leaders come out at all? Fucking hell. How about being a goddamned leader and leading your people? When bullets are flying around and your own family are dazed and confused in the coffeeshops, asking what the hell is going on, what does that say about you as a leader? That you'd lead them straight in to battle and expect them to take a bullet for you even though no one knows what the hell is going on? You don't have to report to the every day people, but if you're going to call yourself a family, wait for it... Fucking act like one. You're not a mommy, or a nanny, but if they're dying for you, they deserve to know why? Or are you just scared to admit your intentions because they'll lose respect for you just like the rest of the community has? Oh look, another bold. I've got more important things to do than to let everyone know its a legitimate crewleader. Let everyone think he's rogue for now. So what if some people get killed? I gots priorities, y'all. Communication is overrated. HONOR Hahaha, next. FAMILY Kinda touched on this one already. I'm so sick of seeing announcements like "Crewleader number 475932 has fallen. His members are to remain untouched." ...What the fuck for? If they were true family members, they swore their allegiance to that family and that leader. So now we're telling the younger population of our generation that its okay to jump ship when the vessel is going down? As a nice little reinforcement to my seaworthy metaphor, the first to jump a sinking ship to safer waters? The rats. Chew on that. TRADITION I guess its hard to talk about tradition in this day and age. We love to throw out the word, but who knows what it truly means. I mean, we're all descendants and generations away from whatever beginnings instilled the traditions we're lacking today. Sure, we hear the stories from our fathers, and their fathers, and we tell them to our sons, and their sons... but as of late, it seems that its all one big game of telephone. They started with "La Cosa Nostra" and by the time the message reached our ears it had morphed into "Purple Monkey Dishwashers." That's what we've become. Purple Monkey Dishwashers. Holy fucking tears in a Midol Bottle. Bra. Fucking. Vo. |

Walks over and shakes Nikki's hand Nikkie? You dont mind if I call you Nikki? Nice job on examination of the new leader. I agree with you 100% on letting your family know your intentions. You just cant go into war and let them die for you, and expect no repurcussions. And traditions and family. Now I'm a young mobster, but what's all this about tradition!? I mean people are sitting here preaching it, and and then they go off and try to wipe out a crew they themselves authed. So in my opinion, tradition is just a excuse to mask somoene's motives and sugarcoat it. If every crew tried to get authed and attempted to kiss other dons asses, then there wouldn't be that may famlies. Sometimes, in Nikki's words, you have to be bold. Nice job Nikkie on examining us younger mobsters. Now i just hope I dont get shot for expressing my opinions. Walks off slightly more paranoid than usualy |

Good speech, Miss Phoenix. I mean, Mrs. Pollitt. Everything that happens here is a lesson to someone. I just learned that if my spelling isn't perfect I'll be criticized for it. That's kind of discouraging for mobsters who dropped out of school to become criminals or who don't speak English as their first language. |

Just another love song. I lost three cousins in that last war. I've learned that with every new leader comes change. Soldiers die thats why they call them soldiers. I understand what your saying. Those that come into power the wrong way are exposed, their mistakes clear and their reasoning fluad. Yet some learn to be good leaders as they listen to those that are at their side giving advise. So are thrust into leadership and trust me leading is not easy. Mistakes happen. We live and learn. Tradition starts with self. Loyalty starts with self. Charactor also starts with self. In this thing of ours death is a everyday event. Throwing lives away needlessly should not be. I believe then as I believe now leadership means looking out for those you lead. Yet those that follow should follow when informed of what to follow. War if a leader goes down then defend yourself. regroup move on! Nikki Phoenix i understand what your saying. But each generation brings change and old ways passes away! |

| Paul, are you saying that these changes Nikki has pointed out are positive changes? The abandonment of loyalty, of leadership, and leaving everyone but an elite inner circle wondering why people are dying all around them is a positive thing for our society of crime? | |

Rourkey notices a sexy woman ranting in the middle of the streets. He casually strolls on up to her and begins blatantly staring at her chest. Nice rack, my dear! My forefathers, foremothers, and really whatever four folks joined to create the genetic gang bang that I am today used to be make these same sort of "street conversations" only to be met with resounding choruses of "rank up and change things." Being that you come to our fair streets with an assessment of the world today, do you have any suggestions on how to change ourselves to more adequately meet your criteria of mafioso? |

Rourkey, you had me at gang bang. Furthermore, change comes from within. Certainly those in power are not so blinded that they cannot see the changes that have led us to our present state. No, its not completely their fault, but instead of gaining footing and plotting a course to get us back on track and in line with these core values that used to hold a lot of merit, it seems to be a lot easier and a lot more fun to continue down the slippery slope. And good on you for calling me out, its one thing to bitch about the state of the union. Its entirely different to point out the problems and propose solutions. The solution begins within. The leaders should begin leading within their crews. Inspiring leadership by example. When wars happen, their soldiers will know the reasons why they are marching in the battle and potentially risking their lives, and will proudly do so out of respect for their upper echelons. If and when their leader is felled, they will complete the oath they made of loyalty to their leader by going down with the proverbial ship, instead of jumping to the next ferry that comes along. We can take a lesson from the old days when respect was currency, and without it, you paid in blood. The reason I'm out here and able to say these things today, even though in this speech I've called out no specific crewleaders but admittedly alluded to a couple, is evidence of the changing tides. We are not a community of free speech. We are not a community of democratic values. We are a community of iron clad leadership based on principles of ruthless adherence to Omerta and the allegiances we've sworn. No more coddling. We're mobsters. Supposedly intelligent adults. Begin acting like adults. STOP Authing new crews. We barely have the population to support the ones we have, and yet we still two cities that are empty. Make it harder to come by, and borrowing principles of supply in demand, raise the value of a bold suit. Use common sense. If you do auth someone, announce it. If not, who is to say its not a rogue who should be put down along with anyone who joins them? Don't auth retroactively. Show confidence in the people you put forth for leadership by having the foresight to deliberate their candidacy and prepare to speak for them beforehand. No more coddling. Teach the newer generation the ways of our world, but not in a way that spoonfeeds them the answers. Have someone in the family get to know each new recruit and vouch for them before sending blind invites. We need our community to grow, and the key to getting people hooked on our way of life is through familial interaction, not the promise of a seven day later projectile lobotomy. |

What about those cities that only had ONE family or crew set up before the mass authing in the other cities? Are they not allowed to grow as well? Why can they not be afforded the same right? How does their authing a CAPTAIN in their city mean less? In fact it does mean more because it won't be in a massive quantity but more care and thought put into it. Like it's supposed to be. People forget that there are seven cities. Each is run differently. Each has it's own personality. Sure there are cities that have decided that quantity is more important. They have their reasons. However, this should not be a call for those cities that are a little more conservative not to be able to grow and enjoy that growth as well. |

Sighs Nikki knows how I feel about these issues. But gotta address that one. We all have inactives in our family. Better to use them as target practice than let others do it. Shrugs And why can't Detroit leadership - Marietta - take charge of Chicago and put some of her families there? Obviously it can be done. We saw a family move from Chicago to Detroit. And Jimmy take New Orleans and put a family or two there? There have to be reasons, but it can be done. So, where the leaders are may not make a difference. The number of leaders is what is important - we need to keep a number that supports our population. |

| Oops, suppose I can add this too. Sometimes we have members in our families that can't follow simple rules - like don't shoot at members of other families, etc. And if those aren't followed, sometimes a leader's only recourse is to put that particular member in the cemetary. It's harsh, but fair. | |

There is one of your points I'd like to comment on....... Since this one reflects my own actions, I'd like to share my thoughts. As many know I was right hand to a family that was warring and ultimately ended in most of my fellow crew members dead as well as my boss at the time. Now maybe some think I should have stood in the streets and allowed shots to be aimed my way and die along side my leader. However I also know how hard he had worked to try and keep myself and the rest of the family alive. Should I not try to continue my life and bring some sort of positive out of a sad situation and not just give up and allow myself to die? I can guarantee he'd rather me continue on after his death and prosper after the unfortunate events than give up and walk to my grave. I did not join an agressing family, I joined one who was neutral. So I am not sure how I can be seen as a rat, especially since the ship had completely sunk long before I ever jumped anywhere. Just a little personal reflection. |

Angel, you're absolutely right about the growth, and your city has the population to support the number of families you have. I've also noticed that your own family's population hasn't exploded which I think says a lot about your character and the deliberate way you go about bringing people into your families. My comment was directed mostly at Detroit and also my own city of Philadelphia, though Philadelphia is expanding and filling up its existing families. My point is that we have two cities completely empty and a ripe ground for existing leaders to spread their wings. Literally. How can one lead in a city that's nose to nuts full of bolds without enough members to support the booming expansion. How can these leaders expect to enact new policies when they're all mingling on each other's turf? Without any distinguishing leadership characteristics, regardless of each city's independent personality, how can these existing crews make their mark and champion a new era of not only population development, but intellectual and policy expansion? |

| Pink, great name by the way. I can only tell you the reasons that make sense to me. And, I can tell you this: One of the names you mentioned - his crewleader has indicated at his funeral that he didn't follow rules. Take that for what it's worth. And AwesomeGod...I didn't find anyone of that name at any of the local funeral homes. I did find one wandering the streets without a home. | |
