Everything I Learned About Leadership Started by: NikkiPhoenix on Feb 07, '09 18:04
What stirring words. The words of someone... destined for auth???

I was about to get auth myself, but Hypno beat me at the ring toss game at a local carnival. I got stuck with being LHM to the Godmother and a popsicle.

STOP Authing new crews. We barely have the population to support the ones we have, and yet we still two cities that are empty. Make it harder to come by, and borrowing principles of supply in demand, raise the value of a bold suit.

I have only started hearing complaints of the amount of crewleaders and open spaces in HQs within the last week. Actually we have less open space in HQs now than we did one week ago. Let me explain........

One week ago, prior to Jan. 31st, we had 9 fully auth'd crews with room to house 75 members and 1 godfather with room to house 10 members. This adds to a total of 685 members able to join crews.

Then the city planners decided the massive HQs were taking up way too much space within the cities and made every crewleader cut the space in their HQs now only holding 50 members each. This started the "mass authing".

As of today, we have 9 fully auth'd crews able to house 50 members, 5 captain crews able to house 25 members and 2 godfathers able to house 10 members. This adds to 595 members able to join crews.

So as you can see we have less room available now even though there is more leaders walking our streets but more people questioning the "high" amount of spaces available.
Report Post Tip
Either way we don't have the numbers of active mobsters to fill all families. 200 extra spaces for what?
Report Post Tip
Whether we have space for 685 family members, or 595 members, and even with the last census reading showing almost 900 people in our cities, our familes are still not filling up (as a good portion are waiting for their seven day projectile lobotomies). So yes, we may have fewer spaces available, but still ample for the people seeking shelter.

Again. No more auths. Its not necessary right now.

Furthermore with more auths, it goes to the point I made in my last counter that with so many leaders, especially in Detroit, but all around as well... Its a bit hard to truly lead when the leadership is so congested that no one can truly distinguish themselves. Lets equalize some things first. Move existing leadership to open cities, allowing them to spread their wings and establish policies, and make their own mark (instead of a collective hoofprint), and once the established families begin filling up, or when some families cease to be, then let us consider the appointment of new leaders.
Report Post Tip
Again, I have to ask about the more conservative cities that do not put quantity as their first priority..

What about New York? Las Vegas? Should they stall their plans for growth because the "Big Two" have decided to auth as many as they have? If they decide to auth are they in the wrong? I would hope not.

Yes, we have two empty cities, but why should the two larger cities cities get the opportunity to fill them? Shouldn't these empty cities be filled with agreement from all of the cities instead?

Now, I know I am just a Captain to Prozac but these are questions I have the need to ask. We have gone through the "auth more it's boring and new members to our society are not getting enough attention" phase to the "oh em gee no more auths!" phase of our cyclic lives. Are you saying "No more Philly and Detroit auths" and supporting the smaller and more traditional cities' right to expand their own families are or are you saying "NO MORE AUTHS EVERYWHERE!! Spread the captains to the other cities."? Not all of the auths are full leaders, they are Captains to the city leader.

I understand your support for our decision in LA and am flattered by it, however, as a concerned resident of this thing of ours I have to ask about the two cities that only have one family in each. Do you expect them to take on a Detroit or Philly Captain instead of authing one of their own if they were to choose to do so? Are the smaller cities supposed to sacrifice our own strength and security because the larger cities have decided that 4 - 8 crews is what they want?

I do not mean to argue or ask questions you may have already answers with your original speech and subsequent replies. I am just asking for a bit of clarity. You are on about the big cities yet have only addressed the actions of Los Angeles and not the rights of New York and Las Vegas who have yet to feel the need to auth a Captain or another Family/Crew Leader in their cities.
Report Post Tip
If and when New York and Las Vegas choose to expand should their numbers support it and their current families are filled, then by all means they have the right to expand, as Los Angeles did. But Philadelphia and Detroit continuing their explosive expansion in their own cities while the community neglects two cities would be wasteful.

Right now, yes... I personally feel that Philadelphia and Detroit are too overcrowded with families. Certainly there is no physical limit on how many families a city can hold but now with empty cities, I strongly feel our first priority should be to place leadership in Chicago and New Orleans.

And YES, I feel that the families should come from existing leaders in Philadelphia and Detroit. Perhaps unfair since it was of their own choosing to inflate their own cities, but effectively they've castrated any sort of effective city wide leadership by the non-Godfather leaders. Truly what can any of the leadership there aspire to achieve with so many other leaders also clamoring to stake their own legacy?

So to clarify, Angel: I feel right now, we need no more auths in any city, even though Los Angeles, Las Vegas and New York really had no play in the ridiculous bold boom. But realistically it would be unfair to the new auths in these three cities as we can't even fill the headquarters that exist now. I feel we need to shift some families from overpopulated cities of Detroit and Philadelphia into Chicago and New Orleans, and once this equilibrium is achieved and families begin filling to the point where more auths are needed, then bring on the tailor of the bold suits. Its not the amount of auths that is truly the problem. Its the distribution rendering a lot of leaders 'lame ducks' not necessarily of their own volition but due to location, and the lack of sustainable citizenship to fill the existing families.
Report Post Tip
Nikki, while I do agree with you that our current world might not have the population to fill the existing headquarters, I absolutely disagree with you, when you say new auths would be unfair to the recently set up families.

Leaders made their choices of authing and those that were given permission to go forth and be a Captain or Family/Crew Leader made their choice of setting up knowing our current population statistics. As I see it, New York does not have anything to do with that, we certainly wouldn't stop New York from growing because other cities have headquarters that aren't full. It's not New York's business, no one cared when New York took over a month to reach 30 members.

However, after long conversations between me and Don Frankie, we have decided that it's not the appropriate time to set up a new family in the city of New York. We surely want the family to grow and expand, but only recently we were able to fill our HQ.

We also feel, that authing a member right now in New York, is not much of a reward to such member. It would be a risk, more then anything else. Due to the current number of families and space already available in those same headquarters, setting up someone in New York, could mean this new leader would take weeks to get a decent size family.

It is well known around these community, that families with lower number of members, are a much easier target. It wouldn't even need a really well trained hitter to be able to do some damage. With that in mind, we surely do not want to put a deserving member into such position. Even though we believe we do have members that would become good leaders, setting up Capos or Made Men, who have absolutely no protection, would just be silly. We instead, have opted to keep our family growing stronger within our own headquarters for the time being and possibly also prepare one of our members for auth on a later date.
Report Post Tip
Personally, I see no reason why we should consider how many empty spots there are in crews before authing someone to set up at all. If someone is competent and trusted enough to deserve to set up a family or as a capo, they should be allowed to do so. What purpose does it serve to ensure that all HQs are full to the brim? Not every crew deserves to be full to the brim -- they should have to achieve such an honor by being a particularly outstanding family where people actively seek out membership. We should not have full crews just because new players are forced to settle for the last man standing with empty spaces.
Report Post Tip

But realistically it would be unfair to the new auths in these three cities as we can't even fill the headquarters that exist now.

Ire, I realize as I reread this line that the intent was unclear. Given the sentence before it, I meant that authing a new member in New York or Las Vegas or Los Angeles would be unfair to THOSE new auths, not the auths in place right now.

My apologies for it being unclear.
Report Post Tip
I could be wrong, I probably am. But has anyone else seen an influx of people that coincide with the auths? I don't know, I'm probably wrong because I am DRUUUUNK, but until Detroit sees a decline, we have no inkling to stop our great work!!
Report Post Tip
I applaud Thomas. The first step in recovery is admitting you have a problem, and I'm proud to see you take it. I look forward to the day when Detroit is run by the sober few, not the drunken majority we see now.

With that being said, Silky wanders into the night in search of another fix.

PinkMonkeyDishwasher I came to hear the buzz on the streets, and heard a few good questions on Nikkie's mind.

I wasn't expecting to see a civilian to sit here posting a family's WS for all to see. One of the first rules I learned was not to show those in public. Maybe more family's should stop their lower family members from displaying the actions that you yourself are demonstrating. And im not refering to a sit in the corner talk time.
Report Post Tip
You learned that rule because you joined the mob, Ms. Hydro; civilians have no policy of honour or silence, and that is why people have been tolerating this for yours, Sir Obizzle being no exception. Again, referring to the fact he is a civilian - it would be hard to stop him doing anything!
Report Post Tip
I suppose that's true - he can't be stopped from doing anything. But frequently, the threat that you will not live far beyond civilian is enough to stop many - those who have common sense and are willing to live by the code...and I suppose those who intend to join the mob. I suppose he doesn't intend to join the mob. Probably just intends to talk for a couple of days then shoot himself in the head or drift away into the pink sunset.

King walks over to PinkMonkeyDishwasher grabs him by his shirt and throws in up against the wall and pulls out his 9mm and puts it to the monkey's head and begins to speak

First off, PinkMonkeyDishwasher, let me explain somthing to you before you make incorrect accusations that are gonna get you killed.

Awesomegod was droped and shot at because he did not want to follow the rules about putting his family tags in his profile when we sent him many messages about so.

Now if you were in this crew and did as he did...you would be swimmin to. We do not use our family members as target practice nor are we planning to. So making false accusations

are only gonna fucking hurt youself. So either you find a family or i will be waiting for you when you turn gangster

King spits on the ground right by PinkMonkeyDishwasher's feet and walks away...

You'll forgive me for intruding, Mafia_King, but I'm a little confused. A highly publicised point is that Obizzle and Digger are Captains of Hypno's family, and not full auths. If this is the case, surely Captains should have the same rules as their overall Leaders.

As there are a few untagged members in Hypno's crew, I have to assume it is not one of Don Hypno's rules to display a crew tag, yet here you are killing people for a lack of such display? As I say, this is indeed a conundrum and some clarification I think would be greatly appreciated, though not required by any stretch of the imagination, of course.
Report Post Tip
Here is some clarification KOOP, I have stated in the rules for relentless that they need to be tagged. Some members are not awake at most times but those who are and have been told to read, understand and take the new updated rules to heart, they then sign those very rules. I have dropped and killed members who I have personally asked to tag themselves only to receive a response "I don't feel its a necessity" or "Whats the point?"

The point is, when you take the time to get familiar with the policies of which ever crew you belong to, you best adhere to them to the best of your ability. When your CL or his hands approach you, you follow through. I am sure we both agree to that.
Report Post Tip
Sadly Mr. Button, it's sometimes a matter of "if" they get familiar with new policies, rather than "when", and therein lie many of the problems we are faced with become more coddled; but that's just my opinion and a debate for another time.

Of course we both, and I imagine anyone else who cares to give an opinion on the topic, will agree that there really is no excuse for disobeying those in the upper echelons; and not for a second was I tying to suggest that people should be able to get away with it.
Report Post Tip
I know you would never suggest such a thing. But there will be onlookers overhearing things that are spoken in these streets, well at the very least I hope they are. If anyone can take anything from the debates and learn from the experiences of others, I should hope that the battle is half way won.
Report Post Tip
Mafia King, save your bullshit for someone who just got off the boat. Or, if you choose to make excuses, at least make sure they hold water. Considering that AwesomeGod had been asleep for 36 hours before his death, how many of these "many messages" were received by him during his relatively short life? Oh, and what about Snorkotte, also killed about 36 hours after he last went to sleep?

Shut your mouth before more drool hits the floor and causes people to slip and fall. Your stupidity may be contagious. As far as your threats go, do you honestly think I planned on living very long? Why would I want to stay here in such a pathetic atmosphere? The population is experiencing devolution. The life of this thing of ours is the streets, yet we are led by mutes. People join families for protection, yet they are used as target practice if their Boss perceives that they may not be well versed in things here (and yes, that is what is happening in Obizzle's family, and we are not so stupid as to think any different). The best and brightest are supposed to be leading, yet we have mongs like yourself out here spewing nonsense and expecting people to believe it.

Really, where is GPC when you need them? There is some terrible inbreeding going on here.

In my (soon to be) short life, I have already accomplished more than you have in your long life. I have called out a Boss for unethical behavior, and for the first time in days there have not been seemingly innocent gangsters in the obits from his family. I put his feet to the fire and he responded by "cooling it" for a hot minute.

I'm sure you have some jailbreaking to do. Get to it, while I wait to be shot.

Toodles.
