I meant to add - the 'Godmother' thing is just a nickname that was given to her, not a rank that was bestowed upon her by the mafia. |

you guys do realize these "titles" are also just nicknames as well right? "so you wanna be a wise guy eh?" made man was simply when someone got made in a family and just happened to be a man thugs is a generic term for men and women as is gangster and earner and goomba capo as well is generic as well as boss consigliere was not actually a rank it was a mere advisor to the boss of the family don is also generic and godfather/godmother have existed as far back as baptism's in history and only grew to the namesake after the movie the godfather made them term more public but i believe what the suggestion is is that we can have the option to choose he or she in a message other users recieve when they attempt to pp or mug or what have you "his pockets were empty" "her pockets were empty" |

EricNorthman you are depicting yourself as a vampire here according to your portrait yet you are arguing history, gender and ranks. Many things here are not tied to the time period. The list for out of era is to long for a post. The ladies would like to be referred to as such. I see nothing wrong with that. My mafia history knowledge is lacking however I doubt anyone would have gotten away with calling the womenI mentioned men. In fact, I doubt they would have survived. |

Enaento... I was agreeing with u and penny that it should be an option.. I meant its no difference really to eric's point, girls are here and acceptd as part of the game regardless if it changes or if girls keep using profiles to announce it. So we mite as well let it be official thru the game. I undrstand eric wants to try n keep it like true mafia times, but women are alrdy here in bunches, so thats why i agreed with allowing female accts, but maybe dont allow them to be a CL as a female, to keep somewhat with the tru mafia times. I personaly have no issue with female accts or them bein CL/first lady.. But seems some do, so just sum ideas to make everyone happy :P We could make us all default trannies when u start :P equal grounds lol |

Capo is not generic. Made Man is not generic. Boss, Don, etc are all ranks. Yes, associates might have loose ranks rather than anything else but most are ranks as said before. Enaento please stick to one point, and argue it. I proved you wrong, just admit it rather than switching to an entirely different line of 'oh this is just a game anyway we can do what we want'.
Denam put it better than I could - "Titles are gender-specific, ranks are not. There's no female versions of "colonel", "general", or "admiral", because these ranks are not gender-specific. The fact that these ranks contain words like "guy", "man", and "father" are merely because they originate from a time dominated by men." |

i never said made man was generic i simply said its just "made" with man added for the gender boss and don are generic terms capo is a abbreviation for a term which translates to under boss (thus why it comes before the rank of boss) capo is generic |

Tbh scary, man can also refer to both sex / all people who make "made".... Aka become a made person.. Nowdays things are a bit more politicly correct but it wasnt always sexist etc.. Now im not sure if they added man just bc gendr like u said but it could of been added bc it refered to all humans back then? Traditionally, the word man has been used to refer not only to adult males but also to human beings in general, regardless of sex. There is a historical explanation for this: in Old English, the principal sense of man was ‘a human being, I still say let em b able to choose female ir male but the ranks dont have to even change, even tho im fine with made gal or whatever if thr girls want it lol Silly arguements here :p |

No ScaryGuy - Made Man is the rank. Not Made, but Made Man. If Made was the rank that would be what it said in our profiles, but it doesn't, it says Made Man. I will say this one more time for you, since you seem to dodge it every time it's said - "Titles are gender-specific, ranks are not. There's no female versions of "colonel", "general", or "admiral", because these ranks are not gender-specific. The fact that these ranks contain words like "guy", "man", and "father" are merely because they originate from a time dominated by men." |

Since Eric had to say it a third time I give him a little assistance: In German it can become a little bit clearer. German is a language which differs EVERYTHING in male/female/things, which makes it very difficult for foreigners to learn. For example cats are generaly female (DIE Katzen) while dogs are male (DER Hund). Given that fact it there is a problem with military ranks since female can join armed forces because out of history they are all male (Der General/ Der Hauptmann/ etc.). The rule for adressing a female soldier is thinkable easy: You just put "Frau" (Mrs.) before ranks and there you got a politically correct title (Frau General/ Frau Hauptmann). Just to say it: Men are adressed the same way (Herr General/ Herr Hauptmann). Back to the topic: For political correctness there is no separation between gender needed. The only rank in my eyes which should be changed is "Godfather" because its literally gender-specific and adressing a woman with "father" sounds a bit off. "Made Man" is should not because like EzPz explained "man" can be seen as synonym for "person".
I for one think that there should be the possibility to choose between male and female. |

And what if someone wants to roleplay a genderless robot? A gelatinous blob? A spaghetti monster? Should they be coded in as possibilities too? Maybe they could be called Made Bot, Wise Blob, Godmonster? Come on guys. This is not the direction we want to be heading in. Changing the rank names would make this entirely unauthentic - yes this is a game in modern times and I am totally for gender equality, but the name of a rank is not related to gender just as MskSniper and a couple others have already pointed out.
The only thing I would suggest changing is the wording such as "XXXX invited you to join his crew", to "XXXX invited you to join their crew". |

would you also like to add rules to make it more difficult for female mafioso's to rank? Because let me remind you how harder was back then for a woman even to stand and speak between men. If in roleplay, a man speaks to a woman like in the way they did 100 years ago, we will have one war every week. I don't think this is a good idea anyway. |

Ghostdog at what point did I say it should be harder for women in any way at all? I have no idea who you're replying to with your post but I certainly hope it wasn't at me because you are way off the mark. |

No eric it was to the main idea. I mean if we want to separate genders its ok, but if we need to be realistic, it should be extremely difficult for female to rank high. So a female account would need 10 times more xp compare to a male account to reach GF. Just because the society back then worked like that. |

| We didn't have dogs, bulls, oxen, flying pigs and the list goes on. Yet, they're RPing and socially accepted here. So why not incorporate females as a choice? Seems reasonable. | |

It is a choice to RP being a female, just like being able to RP being a dog, a bull, oxen, a flying pig etc. You don't see their rank names changing though to suit them do you? I'll repeat myself (once again) since apparently some people don't read all replies before they add their 2 cents - "And what if someone wants to roleplay a genderless robot? A gelatinous blob? A spaghetti monster? Should they be coded in as possibilities too? Maybe they could be called Made Bot, Wise Blob, Godmonster?" |

| Ahem. Well, I apologize if I didn't tailor my response to you, Eric..or anyone else. Really, please forgive me. If anything should be altered in code is the Godfather/Godmother. I made a reference to animals in the mob, er..our mob because of the replies regarding women in the mob. If we have mythical beasts in our society..why even argue women being or not in the mob? That's a whole different can of worms though. | |

I think being able to pick if you're a man or woman should definitely be implemented, and then having the game mention you as a "her" or "she" when it is applicable if you do choose to be a female. If anything, that would make the game more realistic as the women playing would no longer be confused as men by the various NPC in the game. As for "Godmother" and "Made Woman"? That sounds like a terrible idea and I'm 100% against it, Eric and Denam have illustrated why already and I don't believe I have to touch on that any further. |

LandShark - what about just making it all gender-neutral? That way you're not forced to choose a gender, which could still be completely inapplicable for the character you're choosing to roleplay. For instance - changing the wording such as "XXXX invited you to join his crew", to "XXXX invited you to join their crew" (and all the other gender references to 'they' 'their' 'them' etc) |
