| A Rourke Rank Sale | Started by: ThomasRourke on Feb 21, '09 16:09 |
| No, I don't think it answers it, to be quite honest. That has been allowed for a while. What wasn't allowed was a member of another family joining a godfather with the only purpouse of getting promoted then returning to their original family. That wasn't allowed by the gods, I can answer you that much. | |

It is obviously accepted or else many leaders would not maintain members at the same rank. Look at only a few examples of this: Sal is a Consigliere yet holds onto Fu-ManjuRourke and SeanConnery at the same position. Obizzle is a Consigliere yet holds onto Mafia-King at the same position. WildTurkey is a Consigliere yet holds onto DeathKnight at the same position. I haven't checked through other families, this might be the limit or there could be countless more. I think the only difference in your mind is that Thomas is a Godfather and this is not the sort of thing that happened "back in the day." I concede that my family line was not present for this, but I don't understand why things MUST be the same as they were in the past. I see no problem with what Thomas is doing. He offers a service that must be accepted by both an interested party and that of their family head. If they disagree with it, such as yourself, they need not allow their member to engage Thomas in this activity. |

| I agree, people lately seem to be getting stuck in the past quite often. Thomas, I commend thee for having such an interesting idea. My family line wasn't around the last time this was tried, but I'm glad that I'm around to see it now. Best of luck, hopefully many people will use your service to its fullest potential! | |

| There is nothing in this world that I would love more than to reach the rank of Don, but with that said, I would much rather earn it by branching out and setting up my own family or for Don Hypno to get promoted and he then see's fit to promote me himself, than to pay for it.. :-/ | |

To me, this seems like a bad idea. it does help those who have played for a long time and never reached those levels they wanted due to mishaps or wars or whatever... but this seems like it could get out of hand very fast. i do not know your intentions or character nor do i think they are absent, what my concern is is that, as history tells us, how do we know that someone, with the money, will not abuse their power? the old system worked great, you know, the one where people earned the right to be don and not buy their promotions. Yours, Michael Bluth CEO of Bluth Co. (Recruiting- ask for app.) |

| Bluth I would contend that if the crewleader gave the nod for them to go through this promotion procedure that they'd have earned it. As I had been saying the physical ranks and their importance seem to have gone by the wayside, the position you hold within your own crew seems to have a lot more value. So for families with a distinct numbers disadvantage to the bigger cities, why deprive them of at least being able to stack up their firepower more equitably? | |

I take it the Gods have had a change of heart with regards to this kind of practice? I distinctly remember a friend of mine being demoted by divine powers after attempting to circumvent the system in this manner. The reason given at the time was along the lines of "you abused a loophole". Some official response would be much appreciated. Just to satisfy my curiosity on the matter. Is it no longer a loophole? |

I would agree. Whilst the idea is an original idea and a good money-making scheme, and it will allow certain CLs to strengthen themselves in the "defense" arena, I would be intrigued to hear when city hall policies changed. I don't recall much communication about such changes, though I may be wrong. Citing current examples is ok, but even when policies didn't allow such a setup, there were always a couple that seemed slip through the net, particularly after wars. I can definitely remember fairly recent instances of this being "re-balanced", so to speak. Now, I realise this question doesn't relate to the business proposal at hand, since you can't do it yourself, Thomas. However, if, as Nonsense asks, this is no longer a loophole, I wonder whether the gods now be promoting those Dons with Godfather experience (promoted under their existing Godfather)? To be honest, I see no reason why not. Traditionally perhaps, but we're in new times it seems. Obviously they wouldn't receive the same percentages etc. We have a recent closely-related precedent also, where a non-CL Don was tapped, as the term goes. Nothing wrong with this, if it's being applied across the board. |

If I had to venture a guess as to how/why the rule changed (or perhaps never changed at all) it would be this. Now I could be wrong, but this is what I will postulate for now... When Anita did the practice of Promoting people then putting them back in crews, could it be safe to assume that it was only a service she provided to her own crews/allies? If that is true then it would have created a GREAT disadvantage and crippled everyone else. Certainly there is A LOT ethically wrong with that. What I am offering is to do it for a cost, but keeping it open to absolutely everyone. And so long as I do not discriminate as to who gets to utilize my service, it keeps everything completely level. Again, I don't know the Anita situation, so if I had to venture a guess it would be that's why it was reversed in that scenario. It's kind of like the unspoken rule in poker... If you make another player fold, and show your hand, you must show the entire table, not just one person... Show one, show all. |

| Or in this case promote one, promote all. (I figured I tack that on just to make sure everyone followed the analogy) | |

That essentially boils down to one rule for some and not for others though. The question of one group being advantaged or disadvantaged can be set aside though. The real issue concerns viability. Under what circumstances is it plausible to have a leader be the same rank as his subordinates? It makes absolutely no sense. Rank is supposedly more than just a measure of how many jailbreaks someone has sat and grinded their way through. To conclude, this service just cheapens rank even further than it already has been. We will soon have Consig leaders with Consig members who are barely five weeks old. Ridiculous. |

Slamming down his cigarette as he stepped onto the streets for the first time in what seemed like a lifetime, DrTran threw in his two cents... Well, I can't say I agree with this, I think it is manipulating the cough rules of this world of ours for personal gain. However, having reached the rank of Godfather, you may do as you please. However, I think it cheapens the promotion, and personally would be offended if I was a CL and one of my members were to do this. There is a reason CLs cannot promote members to or above their rank. It is for hierarchy. Problems arise when two people, of equal rank, hold different positions and different power. Also, most commonly, the rank of Don is usually only attainable by CLs themselves. Therefore the ability to be at the rank of Don is reserved for those mafiosi whom have earned the honor of being a CL. DrTran took a deep breath Look, we can argue about whether this is right or not all day long. Fact is, it is a voluntary act from all parties involved, so it is up to them to decide what is right. However, I feel that this is cheapening the second most prestigious rank in this thing of ours to a mere paycheck. However, it is a better "selfish" use of Godfather or high ranking power than other examples I have seen throughout my days. As Drtran turned to leave, he flipped his card to ThomasRourke; it landed softly, face down on the ground at Thomas' feet... I expect to know if any of Stapled's members try this, it will not be tolerated. Sorry. ...but by the time Thomas had picked up the card, DrTran was gone; a flash from his holstered .38 Special, and a puff of smoke from a fresh cigarette the only signs he had ever been there at all... |

I actually think some clarification from the gods as to whether this former ruling has now been lifted, might help. As I say, I've never seen anything to say that it has, though it's entirely possible I may have missed that when out of the country. If it has, then there is no problem with it happening, beyond personal opinion. More so given the fact that it's voluntary by all parties, as DrTran points out. Calcium looks along the road towards City Hall... |

I would not worry about what the "gods" think. Mr Thomas is what one might call a "son of the gods" and one of the highest in the land at this. (I love how us modern mobsters from the 20th century still believe in gods...). I'd assume that he knows the rules ever so well and might even have the ear of one of them. |

I guess I can throw in my opinion too... I would have to say that I don't agree with this either. It is beneficial to Thomas from the money that he will rake in from this and who could snub their nose at another way to make money. But actually earning your rank from the family is more valuable to me than paying a million dollars for it. It keeps this "thing of ours" more honorable and respectable. Who am I to judge how a person makes their money. But, if I were a CL, it would be almost impossible to let that person return to my family/crew after they have paid for their new ranking. |

so $1million plus buyout gives me the rank of Don, if as you stated obviously i have worked for it? Now i don't always agree publicly with But Ox but he has a point! SHOCK :P This is extremely cheap as like he said a consig could earn this is a 72hours give or take. Heck i remember when our very own population was down in these cities and people were paying upwards of 300K to wack a low life bum for an extra bit of cash i could have Don..... To agree with Calicum, it does seem like we are entering new times.... |

"However, I feel that this is cheapening the second most prestigious rank in this thing of ours to a mere paycheck." DrTran I'll have to try and forget that as I see you pass orders to the other Capo that sits as your LHM. Obviously you both being Capo doesn't mean a lot as you are RHM, and that trumps your actual rank. Wait... That doesn't sound right... Oh guess it is :/ Go Capo Go! Don't tell me some garbage about cheapening a rank when you boss around another Capo. That's what they call a double standard. The point is this, you cannot expect me to not laugh in your fucking face by telling me about rank cheapening when you'd be given carte blanche to order around anyone in your family of equal rank just because you wear a higher slanty suit. How silly for you. Now go burn your bra in another arena please. Fu-Manju, most Gods only learn the rules that get made while they are empowered, and any other rules are normally unknown unless a new God accidentally breaches a rule, or needs to ask for precedence before setting one. I can't say one way or another I had heard of such an archaic rule, if it was there I'd be glad to abide, but certainly the two situations have markedly different variables. However the clumping effect is easiest for people to sling mud and stomp around about though. |
