**cough** **cough** **Splutter** **splutter** **cough** **cough** **Wheeze** **e ee eee e ee** **BANG**

Jim cursed as his 32 Ford Delivery shuddered and died. He hauled on the wheel with all his might and was greatly relieved to find he had at least managed to pull the sodding thing off the road.

For god's sake what a feckin pile of crap... he muttered as he climbed out and turned to survey the pretty blue truck. Pretty she was; reliable she was not! Ah to hell with it! he said to no-one in particular. He reached into the back of his pants and pulled out his Luger. He slipped off the saftey and almost emptied the clip into the driver's side bonnet. He save the last shot for a final act of ludicrous vengence. Jim walked around to the front of the Ford and put one between her eyes (headlights). Somehow he had thought he would have felt better than this; but as he realized that he was miles from the nearest phone he began to reconsider, somewhated belatedly, his course of action.

Ah well, a little late for regrets; besides, Jim didn't believe in living with regrets. Either you can change something or you can't. If you can't what the hell's the use in feeling bad about it? Just move on.

Ah well, this old girl will definately be Found On Road Dead.

Jim walked over to the passenger side and proceded to clean out the glovebox. Ah, thank God - an extra clip! He quickly slipped the new clip in place and returned his gat to it's calf-skin holster. He then checked his ankle holster to make sure that his back-up piece was still in place, tapped his forarm to reassure himself that his stilleto was still strapped there. Well, nothing to do now but try to get back into town and buy himself a new ride. Jim slung his coat over his shoulder and headed off down the road. Hopefully somebody would come by soon and be good enough to give him a lift. To keep his mind off the heat Jim ran various scenarios through in his mind. Ways in which he would reward the kindness of the stranger who happened to be in the right place at the right time and be good enough to rescue Jim from his own stupidity...

Zeva was speeding down the road in a bright red Cadillac, the kerchief around her head fluttering in the winds overhead as she sings along (and off-key) to a song crackling from the radio. She chuckles at a broken-down blue truck on the side of the road, then sees a lonely figure walking down the road. Well, why not help a guy down on his luck? She pulls over, pulling out her gun and setting it on the dashboard in front of her in case he tried anything funny. She smiles to Jim and beckons him to her car, leaning over to pop open the passenger-side door.

Looks like you need a lift, sweetie!

I sure do! Mighty kind of you...Mighty kind! Jim bellowed as he climed into the Caddy. He knew it was rude to stare; but such a thing of beauty! It was definately love at first sight. And what a sight that sight was! That gleaming barrel! Momma what a fine, fine firearm.

What is a nice firearm like that doing in a place like this?

Erm, don't take that the wrong way maam. I just don't usually see women with such good taste in gats! And that is one fine looking iron that you have there. Are you from around here? This car looks remarkably familiar? Spent any time down in the Big Easy?

Jim couldn't believe he was talking like this; but between the good luck of getting a ride, the even better luck of it coming from a beautiful dame, one not wearing anything on her ring finger at that. The that beautiful gun on top of it. That wasn't the kind of gun some citizen bought for protection, no siree. That was a gun that belonged to someone who appreciated a fine piece of machinery and who knew how to select and maintain a weapon that you could bet your life on. It looked like this might be the start of something big!

Zeva chuckled and picked up the gun, admiring it herself for a moment before answering.

This firearm? I picked it up in this great store..don't seem to remember where it was, though. Serves me well when I have to use it, I'll admit. She grins at the outpouring of questions, trying to answer them as best as possible

Well, I was from New York, but I've moved to Chicago recently. I used to go around to the Big Easy plenty of times, but, heh, I'm afraid certain new policies there prevent me from going. And this is a nice car, isn't it? She grins and reaches over to pat the side before pulling out a silver cigarette case and offering it to Jim. Need a smoke before I take off in this baby? I'm gonna show you how fast she goes. Where are you headed, anyway?
Report Post Tip
Chaos walks around the corner, and notices Zeva, and approaches the two people

"Hello, what is going on?"
Report Post Tip
Jim smiled his million dollar smile and tilted his hat to one side

No thanks doll, hope you don't mind if I light up a real smoke...

Jim had pulled out a Havana and clipped the end, not really intending on waiting for an answer. He pulled out a jewel encrusted and ornately engraved zippo with the words "Omerta. Onore. Sangue. Famiglia." in the four corners. After lighting his cigar he proffered some flame to his new companion

Some flame for my new flame?

The silence hung heavy in the air for a brief moment, then Jim decided it best just to plunge on ahead without making too much of it...

Ehhh, well, I'm headed into Chicago to buy myself a new set of wheels. My truck gave up the ghost on me back there and well - I know one thing for sure, no more FORDS - aka Found On Road Dead / Fried On Racing Days etcetera etcetera...I used to drive a Cord. Wonderfull automobile. I don't know. I need something with lots of power and plenty of punch. Something with style and panache that'll get me out of any tight squeezes I might get into. Erm, not that I ever get into, I mean um...what do I mean...eh....
Report Post Tip
At his refusal, Zeva shrugs and pulls out a cigarette for herself, gratefully taking a light from the ornate lighter. Reading the inscriptions, she gives a laugh. Hell, I'd recognize that motto anywhere! You're one of Giaquinto's boys.
She takes a puff on her cigarette before elaborating. I'm a Figs girl, myself. So, you hopped in the right car if you're headed to Chicago. She takes off in her car with a laugh, easily hitting seventy. After laughing at Jim's descriptions of Fords, she begins chatting about her own car, flicking some ash off the its pristine candy-apple-red side.

Well, if you've got the money on hand, I'd highly reccommend one of these--a V-16, especially if you like speed--but I did have to get a custom paint job on it. 'Course I can't say I really know a terrible lot about cars. Just that they take you places and have rather uncomfortable back seats. She grins slyly and takes another drag of her cigarette, letting the smoke trail behind her as she pushes the pedal down once more, sending the car roaring down the road at eighty
Report Post Tip
Chaos puffs his cigar, and somewhat listens in on the Conversation, but not enough to be nosy
Report Post Tip
Coming quickly around the corner after hearing the commotion, he rushed to the people he could see from a distance.

"Hey! Hey! You guys alright? I heard something?"
Report Post Tip
Jim stares in amazement at the fellow sprawled on the hood of the car trying to eavesdrop, despite the fact that they were doing eighty miles an hour! Even more amazingly he is managing to smoke a cigar, although the cherry on it is already 2 inches long...

Just when he thought he had seen it all some other clown came roaring up around the corner behind them and pulls onto the wrong side of the road to get beside them and he's waving his arms and shouting something indiscernable...Holy Crap!

Eh, you know these guys...or do you always attract this much attention?
Report Post Tip
Zeva stares, mystified, at the two, then shrugs and tries to get Chaos off using the windshield wipers Never seen them at all, I'm afraid.
She shouts over the windshield to Chaos Hey, you all right? I didn't mean to run over you...if I did...
Report Post Tip
V-16 eh, that's a smooth running motor at speed; but how does she handle in town? Accelleration can be much more of an asset that flat out speed, although, welllll, being able to outrun anyone trying to follow you is a nice thing too! How's your transmission holding up. I mean, she shifted quick and true in your clearly capable hands; but were you spinning the tires to impress me or is it that hard to get the power to the pavement?

Jim tried to remain as non-plussed by the odd entourage as Zeva did; but it was very distracting - and he certainly didn't want any competition around - this moll was quite the find - bright, pretty, a good driver and UN to boot! Somehow it seemed almost too good to be true. A warning bell was sounding in the back of Jims mind; but it was getting drowned out by all the other, very positive signs...

Ah Jim, be careful lad - you know more men end up dying over women than anything else...
Report Post Tip
Zeva chuckles, giving a nervous look to the unshiftable men before responding to Jim.

Well, like I said, I don't know a terrible lot about cars, really. But this is my brand new baby, so I haven't run the transmission into the ground--yet, at least. She handles just fine in the city, too--I'm pretty sure that's what they had in mind for this, just something rich people could cruise around the city in and look rich. She laughs and glances over to Jim. Say, I just realized: I didn't catch your name.

Name's Brady, Jim Brady...Junior; but my friends mostly call me DJ.

Here, take my card...

Jim pulls a nicely embossed business card from his vest pocket and hands it to her:

She reads the card with an amused smile, tucking it into her purse before extending her hand to her passenger. Nice. I'm afraid I don't have a fancy business card, but my name is Zeva. Pleasure to meet you, DJ.
Report Post Tip
The pleasure is all mine.

So, it sounds like you know your way around Chicago pretty well. Perhaps you could find us a decent ristorante where I can buy you dinner - it's the least I can do to repay you...

In fact if you don't have any other pressing business I could really use someone to help me find my way around. I don't really know Chicago; but I know I really need a new vehicle!

I would make it worth your while, of course...
Report Post Tip
Sweetie, it's my pleasure to help a guy in need. But I will accept a free lunch at any time. Zeva turns into an exit, flicking her cigarette off the side of the car. But I'm afraid I currently have to meet up with an associate. How about I drop you off at the Caddy dealership and let you look around for a bit? She gives Jim a sideways smile as she speaks.
Report Post Tip
Chaos walks out of the alley, after finishing his cigar. He looks at Zeva, and notices she is about to leave

"Hey, mind if I get a ride to the butcher shop on 5th street?"
Report Post Tip
Meanwhile at the butcher shop...

High_Soc waits impatiently at the counter attempting to acquire some sirloin steak tips

If this line doesn't move any quicker, I'm gonna hang you in that freezer lady!High_Soc shouts to the woman in front of him trying to decide on which brand of shitty bologna to buy

The Old woman turned around and to High_Soc's surprise it was no Old Woman at all...It was HelpDesk! HelpDesk tried to slap High_Soc with a 1/2 pound of Quality aged cheddar, but their attempt was thwarted by CadburyKid.

Thank you C_Kid. See kid, you can't step to this! Now buy your bologna and be on your way before i mop the floor with ya!

Everyone knew High_Soc was a bit cranky...He had not yet eaten breakfast. He loves his breakfast
