Minority Report? Started by: Brick_Pollitt on Mar 09, '09 12:14
So, I wanted to come out here and seek opinions from the masses, including those leaders who see fit to respond.

Brick was standing in front of his HQ. He was a little tired, but had tried to get dressed up for the public appearance, and he fixed his hair. He looked presentable, but you can tell he'd been working hard. And that he hadn't gotten enough Nikki time. He held some papaers in his hand - reports that had been generated at his request. The reports detailed the whereabouts and activities of those in his family. Some glowing, some not so glowing. He held the reports up in the air as he continued.

Anyway, I have a hypothetical question. And this has nothing to do with anything. It's just a question. A query to see what I should do if the situation presents itself. So, say you have a member of your family...well, not really a "member" per see as they're likely not one of us yet, but an associate working for the family. So, you have this associate. Not a particularly hard worker, but one who brings in some cash and does so regularly. You attempt to get to know this particular associate, as you attempt to do with all associates of your family, via mail, conversations in the crew bar or other HQ offices, and by conversations in the coffee shops. But the communication you do have can only be seen as somewhat odd.

You start to develop this feeling in the pit of your stomach that tells you that this particular associate is going to cause your family striphe. You just KNOW, call it intuition or instinct, or E.S.P., that the associate is going to break one of the rules that is near and dear to your heart. This is not an educated guess, you don't THINK he's going to break a rule, you KNOW. And you know, that breaking one of those rules means death. So you know that eventually, you're going to have to kill this particular associate.

The problem is - your associate has broken NO rules. He goes about his day, does his job and that is all.

What do you do? Do you just watch him? Do you remind him of the rules on occasion, and the consequences of breatking those rules? Or do you do the unthinkable and kill him? For doing nothing wrong? If we already knew what was going to happen, how would we stop it from happening?

My answer will only be short, follow your instinct, for 9/10 times, your instinct will be right..

What to do with that person is debatable on all kinds of levels..but to be honest, if I was put in that situation as family leader, I'd have a few words with some close friends and make the person disappear over night..

It may sound harsh, but meh, If I felt anyone was out to dishonour my family name in any way, I wouldn't wait for them to do it to punish them.
Report Post Tip
Given that this is a hypothetical question and we know that he WILL break a rule, there is no point reminding him of the rules and consequences. He'll still break the rule. Therefore, it comes down to, do you kill him for doing nothing, knowing yourself that you are stopping a rule being broken. Or, do you kill him after he's broken it, possibly to the detriment of an innocent party, but at least you'll have proper justification.

I'd make my call based on whether an innocent party was going to lose out by his rule breaking, which I presume you would KNOW also? If they were, shoot the fucker now.

Ultimately, it doesn't matter since you are the boss and whatever way you choose to handle it is, by definition, the correct answer to said hypothetical question!

yea i tend to agree with frankie i would not risk my crew name and my crew members for, as you put it an "associate"... id sort it out before the situation spiraled out of controll,

im a beleiver in giving everyone a fare chance, but as a CL ithink it is your job to make these decisions, even if deemed harsh.
Report Post Tip
"im a beleiver in giving everyone a fair chance"

I also agree with this, but given the circumstance, the leader must have been given a big enough reason to fell such a thing, so therefor, I don't believe a chance should be given.
Report Post Tip
Typo: "given a big enough reason to feel such a thing"

Sorry. :-/

There's a chap in Germany at the moment with the very same idea as you Mr Pollitt. Adolf Hitler I think his name was. He believes that you should pre-empt when someone is going to commit a crime. Some think he's paranoid, some think he's intelligent for introducing it. I'm a fan of the former, that he's a bit paranoid. Were I in your position, I would give the chap every opportunity to prove himself and gain your trust, but I'm a very trusting individual.

Persian

I'd shoot you in the face if you compared me to Hitler..

If I was boss of a crew or family, I would keep a close eye on them to start. You said he earns well and consistent so why punish him if he has done nothing wrong? Isn't money the big goal here?

An occasional reminder of the rules isn't a big deal either. Some people need a push in the right direction from time to time.
Report Post Tip
I see what your saying Doc_Santoro, but given the reason to what has given the leader reason to doubt, would that not effect your decision?
Report Post Tip
After hearing the hypothetical situation,Bboy gives his hypothetical opinion based on the given hypothetical situation

The associate that was mentioned is not yet an official member of the family. The fact that he earns well implies that he may already be a part of a family though it was not mentioned in the hypothetical situation. And being hypothetically part of a family while giving your earnings to someone else family IS already a form of disloyalty hence a breach on family rules.Hypothetically,he should not have a place in any family.

bboydurante,

I think we all understand that you understand that this is all hypothetical :P

I just felt like I'm in a hypothetical courtroom giving a hypothetical verdict after the hypothetical jury have voted in.Sorry for that sir. ;)

*pisses himself laughing

It's quite alright!

Thanks for the input. It has been brought to my attention anonymously that I have misspelled the word strife - I apologize. I must have had Striphe on the brain, and he'll have to figure out whether that is a good thing or bad thing. I did, indeed, mean strife. And thank you to that anonymous person.

I would just interject this: When I say somebody is not a "member" of the family yet, I mean he is not yet a made man, and not yet entitled to all the privileges of being a full family member. I didn't mean that he was a member of another fmaily and earning money for me. Though anybody who wants to give me money is appreciated.

I'll assume I wasn't being compared to Adolph Hitler since I was only asking a hypothetical question. ;)
Report Post Tip
That was perfectly clear regarding the family "member", Brick, the flaw wasn't in the speech, but the listener. Or did I mean perphectly clear?

Calcium scratches his head...

I actually thought it was pretty obvious what you meant by they were just an Associate and not in the "family", shame you had to explain it, but then again, better to have explained it than to have some people believe your taking in money from outside family members, however much you wished you were :P

Report Post Tip
Ow...well I messed that one up didn't I...I blame _bboydurante_ with all the hypothetical talk..
Report Post Tip
My apologies sir Frankie.I have no intention of miss leading anyone. So much with my hypothetical thinking.
Report Post Tip
Howey ponders the question at hand and thinks hard about it.

If I as a hypothetical CL thought an associate of my family was going to put me, my family or my friends in danger there would be no doubt that in my mind that i would end this persons life, whether by my own gun or someone elses, either way they would be gone and never to be seen again.
