So... About those rogues... Started by: Slevin_Kelevra on Oct 28, '07 05:41
I'm guessing Justified was speaking of showing respect to all people.

Sometimes you can push someone just far enough to remove 3 crewleaders, resulting in the deaths of many innocents along the way. The alternative, being respectful and honorable, seems much less costly.

Ok then, point me in a direction where -IcePrincess- was direspected, causing her to shoot three Crewledears. Oh right, the disrespect all came afterwards, when people realise they do not owe respect to someone who has severely wounded the community, I see.

Basically, you say respect should be not earned, but more given to people out of fear, just in case they some day flip and do something detrimental to La Cosa Nostra?

I know we're criminals, but that's quite an extreme of blackmail.
Report Post Tip
Sprozza decided to take the path of personal insults. While calling someone a "cow" isn't the most major of offenses, it's still disrespectful. His Right Hand also showed a lack of respect (check out his tattoo in the obits) towards her.

ElanaDeLuca, was informed of -IcePrincess-' decision to remove a disrespectful leader, and behind closed doors, she was given a decision to sit back, as this was not her fight. She chose to go after -IcePrincess-, which was within her rights I'll add, but it turned out to be a poor choice.

Polpot, was at first spoken to, and spared being shot at, until it turns out he changed his mind and decided to commence the namecalling on the streets as well.

OliverMcTavish, was fired at in response to YouSuck's death, which of course, was a losing cause for -IcePrincess-. Still, Mr. McTavish never took a disrespectful approach, and thusly he was attacked for separate reasons.

Scandia was never considered as a target and was never shot at due to the fact he was only concerned in protecting his family, which, by not following the paths of the 3 dead crewleaders, turned out to be the correct path, and he succeeded in protecting his family.

These are the reasons behind -IcePrincess-' targeting and killing.

like i said, the point of what caused her to go rogue is completely irrelevant to the whole argument. the duty of people in our business is to follow the letter of the law set down by our family heads. the moment they stray (i.e. go rogue), they have effectively taken themselves out of the lives of those who still abide by the rules. therefore they don't deserve the respect of a member of the mafia, as they have turned away from the vows that brought them into this life to begin with. that's all there is to it. any problems should've been dealt with among the leaders. and if it didn't turn out to the favor of iceprincess, tough cookies.
Report Post Tip
You think this didn't turn out in her favor?

She killed the 3 crewleaders she felt had disrespected her. Her failure against Mr. McTavish was inevitable, but yet she stayed true to her former fallen crewleader and friend.

I'd say she went out quite well.

As for the wrongs and rights in all this, as I've said a few times before, she was both wrong and right. She was wrong for straying from the rules and right for standing up for what she believed to be the correct path to take. Whether or not you respect her for her actions is subjective, and you're probably correct no matter what you think on this particular issue.

If we all follow the wrong path blindly, where will it take us?
Report Post Tip
again, i've already stated, that's why you need to pick your leaders wisely, so you keep on a path that is agreeable to your own personal stance. i'm speaking common sense here.

as per your argument of her three kills. i wouldn't call that successful, i would call it effective, which nobody is disputing. the end result though was that she got killed, yes, what a resounding success.
Report Post Tip
First, welcome to the mafia, Cathal. We do not choose our leaders here. Some rise quickly to the top, and others are appointed by their peers. We, as plebs, choose nothing, nor should we. This is not a democracy.

Second, -IcePrincess- was bound to die anyway. In the end we all die, do we not? Personally, going out on your own terms is much better than worrying about an end result you have no control over anyway.
Report Post Tip
*slams his head against a wall repeatedly.*

i mean when you yourself choose the leader you wish to join. when you choose the leader whose family you'd like to become a member of, you should make sure to evaluate that their standards match your own.
Report Post Tip
"Standing up for what she believed to be the correct path to take" may seem like the right thing to do in any ordinary lifestyle, but it isn't noble in the mafia. The right thing to do is to stay loyal to your Boss. That isn't something that is subjective, it's a black and white issue. Even if we completely disagree with our family leader, we have a blood oath to serve the family.
Report Post Tip
I wholeheartedly agree with that statement.

However, how often do we really get to know our leaders? Many times, it's a matter of blind faith. If you join a family, you should be prepared to die with/for that family.
Report Post Tip
well malch, to a degree i can understand that some of it is luck of the draw. too often though i think people tend to overlook that they can scout out leaders as much as leaders can scout us. it's a two-way street that i think is misconstrued as being one-way.
Report Post Tip
maxwell, are we not all criminals? We all preach honor and respect, but to whom and when? Certainly we're all hypocritical when it comes to this, otherwise we'd be common civilians.

Why should -IcePrincess- have been responsible to Sprozza, Ms. DeLuca, or Polpot? Her responsibilities were to her crewleader, who, as we now well "know" supported her decisions.

Again, whether you respect her decisions or not, is subjective.

well mait, they're pricks or they're angry.

"or they seriously believe they've been wronged somehow and have decided to take matters into their own hands."

i actually belived that same thing in our current family, but instead of being a dick about it i asked a friend to shoot me, more proper, no? luckily my stupid brain started working again and i backed down. today i won't make that mistake again

Witchy leans up against a lamppost and lights a cigarette, taking a long draw, she blows out the smoke

"Perhaps they see people being authed and feel they earned that position but have once again been overlooked.

In that instance would they ask a friend to shoot them or a boss to HQ them or just take what they believe is righfully theirs?

After all, to die quietly would never make their point known would it"?

"Or maybe they are just plain ignored in their family and feel their rank justifies a little more recognition, so they take it?

Witchy shrugs and stubs out her cigarette
Report Post Tip
*Slevin smiles, and shakes his head.*

"But Witchy, why do they need to die at all? What is the big rush to get into leadership positions? Inevitably, leaders die, it happens all the time, Christ, you've buried 5 now is it? Surely time is a good thing, for the longer you wait before taking a position of responsibility, the stronger you will be, both as a person, and as a criminal...

All I see is impatient people with over-inflated egos, that think they deserve more than they really do. Perhaps their Father or a distant relative was somebody of importance, and they believe that they should be treated exactly the same way?"

*Slevin shrugs, and lights up a cigarette.*

"The way I see it, you earn anything that is yours, no matter who your Father was, or your Great Grandmother was. Sure, their achievements may be an indication of the potential that you possess, but all men must come into this life equal."
Report Post Tip
Trilacci pondered these last few words carefully, all men come into this life equally, and shook his head silently. He stood and opened up with a question

"But do they, Slevin? Do they really come into this life equally? I don't believe so, nomatter what anyone says, it must surely comes into account somewhere down the line."

He turned to witchy

"What's rightfully theirs...I believe Slevin got this bang on when he mentioned about over-inflated ego's. To say that something is rightfully mine when it wasn't given to me is wrong, I feel. Surely if it indeed was mine, I'd have been given it? Of course, there are occasions where perhaps mistakes have been made, personal emotions get in the way or people are simply forgotten or missed out, but are these reasons to turn rogue? I mean, their impatience is now seen to be a weakness or perhaps an indicator that they were right not to have been given auth in the first place."

"Who be the jury on this?"
Report Post Tip
Witchy smiles and straightens up a little as the 2 men reply.

"All men are born equal but some a little more equal than others"

Witchy laughed

"We all know that old adage"

"But yes, I agree, the rational man or women on the street would accept what goes on, sit back and take what ever it given to us. However, we are talking about irrational, spontaneous people here and what makes them different.

But like you say I have buried 5 bosses, does that show a flaw in the auth system?

Who am I to say but perhaps that's what the rogues are protesting against?
Report Post Tip
*Smiling, Slevin turns to MrTrilacci.*

"Well, I believe that all men come into this life equal, and I treat them thus. Some people do not believe they are equal, sure, but that just goes back to the ego argument. Living off an ancestors former glory is not something I like to see, especially in somebody pushing for auth.

You earn your spurs in this life, and if you haven't earned something, then nobody is going to respect you for having it. If someone was just, for example, given a leadership position purely because they had the rank, and their Father was a leader, would you respect them for it? Or would you give far more respect to someone relatively new to you, but had a proven track record of going above and beyond the call of duty for their family, and had truly earned the position?"

*Sweeping back his hair with one hand, Slevin ashes his cigarette.*

"Some people come from good families, and it's clear they will be of the same pedigree from an early stage, but should these people be allowed to do the bare minimum, and just expect to be given auth? Or should these same people prove their pedigree by surpassing their own ancestors, and being an even better criminal?

I think that by people being treated differently from birth, based on who their parents were, we are instilling an attitude of laziness to them from the start. We are teaching them, wrongly I might add, that they are different, and that they should be treated better than everyone else. Is it any wonder we have egotistical rogues who are offended not to be given auth?"
Report Post Tip
Witchy looked at Slevin and lit up another cigarette, offering the pack round.

"In a perfect world that is how it would work, but I have seen time and time again new blood being overlooked in favour of descendants".

"Tell me, how does a newcomer make his mark, go that extra mile for his family when the descendants of the deceased step straight into their fathers shoes and take the jobs"? As far as I see, in many instances people aren't given that opportunity to prove their worth".

"However, having said that, many of these rogues are from old bloodlines, therefore, perhaps your suggestion of them feeling because they are so and so's son or daughter they somehow have a right to it"?

Taking a draw on her cigarette, she leaned back against the lamppost.
