| The Deal (RP) | Started by: Shedao on Nov 01, '07 15:28 |
| A young man walks slowly down the dark, wind-swept sidewalk; his head lowered, face obscured by his fedora, the rest of his attire concealed beneath the trench coat he was wearing. He doesn't seem to be in any hurry, just a young man out for a stroll; but as we all know, things aren't always what they seem. As he passes before a darkened alley he pauses just out of the illumination of the street light and surveys his surroundings. When he is sure that no one is watching him, he walks slowly into the alley and waits for his contact. | |

"You're late." She steps out from behind a stack of discarded packing crates, and approaches Shedao as he makes his way down the alley. Her right hand is empty, but in her left is the information she was sent to pass on. It was her first time dealing with Shedao as an agent, but she wasn't green to these type of transactions. "Its too cold out here to be late." |

Shedao walks slowly up to the woman, and hands her a large, manila envelope. He then takes the proffered information, and turns to leave. Before he goes though, he leaves a parting comment. I was unavoidably detained. I do hope that this won't reflect poorly on any future ventures we may find ourselves sharing. As he leaves the alley, he wonders what is so damn important about this information. He knows that he is not the only courier out tonight and that only one of them is getting the real information. He wonders whether or not he is just a decoy, but stops that train of thought before it goes too far. He hopes that his contact makes it safely back to her destination, after all she seemed to truly understand the nature of the game. It truly was nice to deal with someone who knew what they were doing for once. As he proceeded on his way, he failed to notice the shadow creeping along behind him. |

Once she makes sure he makes his way out of the alley, she turns back down the alley to the large metal door near the rear of the packing company. As instructed, she raps three times softly, and s for the door to open. As expected, it did, but unexpectedly, Jones is not her greeter. A leather-clad hand grabs the back of her head and another clamps over her mouth. Though a natural reflex, she forces herself not to scream knowing that it would only lead to dire consequences sooner, and also because it would have been fruitless. The metal door slams shut as she is dragged inside. |

Babe was left in the car and she was not happy about it. Shedao had reassured her that she would be safer in the here. Ha! Who wanted to be safer? Not her, at first she gave him a smile and told him she would stay put, but as the minutes ticked by she started to feel impatient. Babe reached for the door, she pulled the handle toward her. Locked. How dare he, she was no baby. She moved her hand to a panel on the door and placed a delicate finger a smooth black button. The tinted window between her and driver slid down smoothly. Sir, do you know if this car is packing? She asked the driver, Babe was not to have a gun yet and she wasn't able to sneak one out with her tonight. Pardon me Miss, what was that? Telling the driver about how she worried about Shedao's safety she asked again if the car had any hidden weapons as she had not found any under the seats. He didn't let up right away, saying a women had no place with a gun, Babe kept her sweet face and eventually won him over. Miss they are in the trunk, but remember our deal, I didn't tell you about it. She gave him a wink, closing their deal. Quickly, she flipped down the seat next to her left and found the hidden capartment. Babe took out a small gun, she didn't know the name, didn't use them that much, but she knew how to shoot. That's all that mattered right now, Shedao had been gone far to long and she didn't trust these people he was meeting with. Now she just needed to get out of the car. Sir, if you'd be so kind, would you come around and open my door. I had my nails done just hours ago and I'd hate to ruin the polish. |

Strummer sat in the office, phone in one hand, cigar in the other. Still no answer. Where the hell was she? What if something had gone wrong? He knew Ollie said the guys in Chicago were not to get involved, but there was no way he could sit it out, not until he knew Evey was ok. Tightening his tie and throwing on his jacket, he made for the front door and stepped out into the harsh night. |

"Sit." She didn't ask why or argue at all with the man with gloved hands. Instead, she sat on a rickety wooden stool in the middle of the dark warehouse. Some light filtered in from the streetlamps outside, but the majority of the open space was blanketed in velvety blackness. Her captor used this to his advantage. "We're not going to yell are we? You look like a smart girl." She shook her head to indicate that she wouldn't. "Good." He placed his hands together and cracked his knuckles alongside the sound of the scrunching leather. "Then this should be easy. I'm just going to ask you a few questions." Evey kept her head still. Even though she was not bound or gagged, she didn't want to make any mistakes that would lead to that end. "First question." She tensed. "Who ordered you to pass on that information about me?" |

As Shedao walked toward the car he saw the driver open his door and exit the vehicle. The driver proceeded to the back door and made as if to open the door. Shedao, seeing this, hurried his pace. What is she up to? He asked himself quietly, I know she heard me ask her to stay in the car. How the hell else am I supposed to keep her safe? He watched as Babe elegantly lifted herself from the car and turned towards him. Just as he passed through the shadow of a storefront, he saw her face assume a look he had never seen on it before. This was accompanied by a quick flash of pain to the back of his head, a sense of falling, and, finally, blackness. |

Stepping out of the vehicle a harsh stream of wind rushed passed her, followed by the sound of foot steps approaching. Babe turned, momentarily blinded by a street lamp and then catching a look at Shedao coming towards the car. A smile played on her lips, but was quickly gone as she witnessed someone creeping up behind her friend. Her words caught in her throat as she tried giving him some warning, but it was to late. She looked for the driver, caught sight of him just as he was getting back into the car. No help from him, Babe put the small gun in the side of her pants and rushed over to Shedao's fallen body. Shedao. Shedao. She crouched near his body. He wasn't dead, just knocked out pretty well. She stood up and realized the creeper was still there, lurking in the shadows. Anger filled her sences and nothing else mattered as she approached this person. This! Babe pointed at Shedao's current position. Was not part of the deal! |

"I asked you a question." Evey lowered her eyes and looked to the floor. I heard you. She muttered lowly, speaking to the pleats near the waist of her ankle-length skirt. Despite her dire situation, she focused on a piece of lint stuck near her knee. She wanted to pluck it free but was afraid to make any sudden moves. "I hope that you're prepared to pay for your silence." Her head still lowered, she smiled. I'm just as prepared to keep silent, as you're not prepared to hurt me. She heard the sound of a metal chain being flung to the floor, and then dragged. "We'll see who has a better resolve, Miss Basso." |

| Shedao slowly begins to become aware of himself. The first thing he notices is that his head feels like someone is methodically trying to send a morse code signal using it as the transmission medium. Then he begins to gain a sense of orientation, relizing that he is lying down on a hard surface. Then memory returns and he lets out a groan as he tries to get his muscles working again. | |

Despite the stinging of sweat rolling into her eyes, she kept her stare on the floor. Refusing to blink, even in anticipation of the pain that would soon possess her. He grabbed her chin violently and forced her face him, but her eyes glared in a thousand yard stare just above his head. "Don't ever confuse stupid intractability for balls, Evey. You've crossed the wrong man this time, and your wiles and crossed legs won't get you out of it this time." She felt the cold blade press hard against her neck. Though the pressure made it hard to talk, she managed to spit out a few choice words. Fuck you, Boris. Rot in hell like your father. The resulting blow to her head knocked her unconscious, but even as her chin met her chest, her lips curled in smile. |

A split second before the hilt of a knife knocked the young woman unconsious, Skylar opened the large, rusted metal door of the warehouse. Clad in her usual camoflauge BDU pants, black combat boots, and black tank top, the recently retired Marine rolls her eyes and approaches Boris- reaching down and picking up a thick, heavy chain from the floor. There was a black bandana tied around her right bicep, and her hair was cut short and close to her head. Boris stood as she approached him "Sky- what are you doing he-" Before he could continue, Skylar had wrapped the two ends of the chain around her hands, then twisted it around Boris' neck, applying just enough pressure to cut of most of his airway Did I ask you to hit her? The man does nothing but gasp. Skylar gives the chain a quick tug Well? Did I? Boris shakes his head and mumbles an "uh uh" with the little breath he can. That's right. I didn't. She pulls the chain away, then plants the bottom of her boot on Boris' back, pushing him away from her. He staggers a few feet away, and Skylar looks over at the chair where the young lady is tied. Slowly, she squats down in front of the captive, lifting her chin up gently and looking at her face Damn. Just as pretty as she always was. With a quiet, yet firm voice, Skylar calls to her Oh Miss Evey? Come on- I know you're in there.... |

Arousing from a state of unconsciousness is an unusual feeling. Its a bit like emerging from a sensory deprivation tunnel; everything comes slowly... sights... smells... sounds... The voice sounded like it had descended from heaven, but seconds later it was merely a whisper in front of her face. She smelled warm mustiness and tasted copper in her mouth. Her tongue throbbed from the injury. How long had she been out? She reached her hands up, realizing they were still unbound. It couldn't have been long, but as her vision returned, she saw Boris sputtering on the floor, and assumed it had only been a few minutes at most. Still, despite her captor's weakened state, she saw in front of her an even more intimidating sight. The woman was built, but still feminine despite her extremely short hair and military garb. Were her features not chiseled in stone from countless hours of harsh training, the woman would have been beautiful. But now she was as lovely as mother bear missing her cub. Though she spoke softly, Evey knew that she was a forced to be reckoned with, and stiffened in her chair. Skylar... |

Skylar nodded with slightly raised eyebrows and a thin, closed smile on her lips Yeah, its me. Looks like you might have gotten yourself into a bit of a spot here, Missy. I'm sorry if my associates have been rough with you. They're not used to being in the presence of a lady. She stood and flashed a look at Boris, then continued speaking- very calm, very gently, still somewhat maniacally. Something about Skylar wasn't the same as when she and Evey were younger. They had been friends, confidants- until Skylar had joined the Corps. After she'd returned from years in service, things were not the same. Evey and Skylar had polarized- but Skylar had snapped somehow. Now, Skylar hopped up onto a crate in front of Evey, lit a cigarette, and inhaled long and deep. She studied Evey's face as she exhaled slowly, the smoke from her cigarette curling delicate tendrils as it escaped her lips. Leaning forward, she rested her elbows on her knees How did we grow apart, Evey? I never thought you would do something like this to your old comrade. Her voice mocked hurt feelings, but there was, clearly, a bit of anger in its undertones |

Comrade? Despite the pain she felt from her concussed head, she smiled, genuinely. Interesting choice of words. Was joining the Corps your patriotic cover for turning Benedict and collaborating with the Russians? She turned her head to spit out the blood that refused to stop coming from her injured tongue. Moving her gaze, she stared at Boris who had now regained some of his manly composure, though stood in the corner massaging his neck. Or did you meet Boris here in the old cantina? Evey shook her head and sighed, not looking her once dear friend in the eye. Comrade? No, you made that choice a long time ago, Skylar. |

Skylar's first instinct was to split Evey's lip herself- but she would do no such thing. Yes, Skylar had done some unsavory things in her career, but any attack on her patriotism was a personal attack, and Skylar would have none of it. She shook her head at Evey, ashing her cigarette onto the floor What little you know for how much you talk. With that, Skylar looks over at another man in the room and nods her head. The man picks up a long, wooden crate and sets it down between Skylar and Evey. This, my dear Miss Basso, is a crate full of high powered, Russian assault rifles. She hops down off the crate she was sitting on and grabs a nearby crowbar, twirling it in her hands as if it were a baton. She circles the crate and smiles the smile of a woman outside of her mind. As you can imagine, these are very expensive and very top secret. In fact- these are 5 of the only 10 in existence. What you have stumbled into, Evey, is not what you think. Skylar puts the tip of the crowbar into the crate, and with one swift motion, cracks the case open. The weapons are laying in the crate on top of old, crumpled up newspapers. Reaching down, Skylar takes one and cradles it- letting her fingers run along its lines and smiling You told that Boris was a Russian national. And, you were right, Boris comes from Kiev. However, the mistake you have made is in assuming that I have sympathized with the Russians. No- the Russians hate me more than anyone right now...because I stole their toys.... |

Evey watched her cradle the weapon like a newborn infant, almost disgusted by the look on Skylar's face. You seem to care so much about dispelling rumors to me, but not to the government, sweetheart. She shakes her head and eyes the crowbar, now laid atop the newspapers. Do you think I'm just some petty reports runner? I've read your file... seen the surveillance. Whatever you've done today doesn't make up for the lives you've taken before. They were innocent men, fathers and spouses and lovers. Finally, she looked up to meet Skylar's eye. And one of them belonged to me. |

Skylar felt her stomach cringe. Briefly, she looked up at Evey, then threw the gun back into the crate Just shut up- you don't know what you're talking about. Anger was beginning to boil over inside of her, and she knew that someone would lose a head if she didn't get out of there soon. She leaned down and took a handful of Evey's hair, pulling her head back and speaking directly to her face Not everyone is so innocent as you think, little Evey. War makes us all do things we wish we'd never done. She roughly pushed Evey's head forward and turned to walk out of the room, barking instructions to Boris Feed her and then put her in my room. We'll let her go tomorrow. |
