Lemme get your opinion on somethin'. Say you've got a friend and say his name is Phil. Now Phil here's got an itchy trigger finger. He's always lookin' to shoot someone for one reason or another. And one night, you're out for a walk--maybe pickin' up some groceries or takin' your dog out or whatever it is you do--and there's Phil: gun in hand, shooting away at some poor Joe.
You know the family doesn't want everyone to be shootin' at random, but it's only Phil. Hell, he's your best bud. You can't go tellin' on him to the boss. No one will know, no one will find out. 'Cept now Phil's getting cozy with breakin' the rules. He'll do it again and again and next time he won't be so lucky. You're keeping stuff from your own boss and now a rival family gets fed up with being shot at and decides to intervene.
Or, let's say you're Phil's boss. You've been informed of his attempt to murder that other guy. Now what? The witness was within the family. Do you bury it? You think this is great--your guy got some experience with a gun and didn't get caught. The problem now is that you've got some guy in your family that thinks he can get away with stuff, but hey, you've known his bloodline for ages. Surely he wouldn't do anything stupid.
What would you do in these situations? Would you rat out your best friend for the sake of the family? What if Phil were in your family: would you give an up-and-coming hitter a freebie despite having already broke your family's rules?
It's my opinion that if you break the rules once, you're gonna do it again. I wouldn't want that kind of scum in my family. That kind of scum says that he doesn't give a shit about me or my rules--he's only lookin' out for himself and his own selfish agenda. So I'm puzzled: why is this a continuing problem? |

Seriously though, I would have to say this. Either way you put yourself at risk, weigh the rewards for all involved. Is Phil in the same family or a allied family? Phil maybe breaking the rules slightly but it is benefiting the family as a whole as he gets stronger. Also look at the situation, perhaps Phil hit a -48 that was minutes from being a normal gangster cannon fodder foolio type. When it is all said and done, that is a personal decision you make. I would assume though that IF your Boss finds out and they usually will. You will suffer the same fate as Phil, after all at least I know I swore complete Loyalty to Elegido as a whole and Brick Pollitt NOT just Jono or anyone person for example. |

Slamming down his cigarette as he steps forward, Mudkips lifts the brim of his hat as he starts to speak...
You don't snitch. Ever. However, considering that this friend is shooting at members of other families, telling your boss is not snitching, and in fact, it is required. Having someone in any family shooting at members of another family without the proper authority to do so jeopardizes the entire family. And rule number one of almost every family to ever survive or thrive in this world of ours is that the safety and interests of the family come before anything else. Period. It doesn't matter if it is the RHM/LHM/HSL of the family, you tell your boss about every shot you see, because it is not for you to decide what information is relevant and what isn't, that is you Boss's job, and his alone.
Turning to leave, Mudkips flips his card to Decker_White, having it slide softly into his back pocket...
Remember: Mine is not to question why, mine is but to do or die.
...but by the time he had pulled the business card from his pocket, Mudkips was gone; a flash of light reflecting off his holstered .38 Special and a puff of smoke from a fresh cigarette the only signs he had ever been there at all... |

That makes more sense then what has been said before but what I'm saying is this...I wouldn't with hold witness statements or make excuses, because then you would be covering for him,I would simply tell him as a friend if he wishes to remain in this thing of ours he has to stop his current life style or he's gonna get punished for his mistakes.Because the big guy is always watchin. |

From the shadows, a voice could be heard trailing away...
Shelton, it is a shame to see you feel this way, especially since you are such a high ranking member in a well respected crew. It is not your Boss' job to enforce the rules, it is each an every member's job. You can have friends in La Cosa Nostra, but you owe your allegiance to your Boss only. No one else. You cannot assume that you can cover for your friend just because you assume your Boss knows. And if you are so flippant about the safety and security of your family, I'm surprised you've made it as high as you have, and I know if I were your boss listening to your comments, I would definitely have to re-evaluate your rank and standing in my family.
I mean no disrespect, your comments really surprised me, and would have surprised me if you were a Petty Theif; but to see those thoughts from a Capo in these days in our world is concerning about the way high ranking members of this world of ours view the rules and authority. |

I agree whole-heartedly with your most recent statement, and regret that I was in the process of speaking myself when you said it. However, I still hold that though you could talk to your friend first and explain that he's heading towards a short lifespan, it is still your job to hand that W/S up, no matter what. |

tibeius reaches under his coat and taps his colt .45 slowly... it was the same gun that got his father in so much trouble... but it was different now. He would show restraint
Personally, if I'm the CL, and it was indeed in the family, he'd get a tongue lashing he'd never forget, with the loss of his gun and a few ranks. The second time, he'd die. |

Apparently I came off wrong because I in NO WAY meant to come across as some guy who chooses friendship over his family, NEVER, I said I wouldn't withhold any kind of info for him, I wouldn't make excuses for him, and surely if I thought my family was going to suffer due to his actions I would obviously do my duty and serve and protect my family at all costs. But I did mean that simply if this Phil character is so out of control how could he go unnoticed and how would no one know, so there for I only meant that it wouldn't be unnecessary to tell the boss because he has more than likely been made aware of multiple WS's and there for action is probably about to take effect. as I said before If I was his boss he would die for his flagrant rule breaking friend or not.And one last thing, I am A high ranking member in my family because of hard work, dedication, and possibly over all my loyalty, so to think that I am the opposite of any of those things is disheartening and further more a slap in my face. |

Well I apologize for any disrespect you may have felt from my words, I could only base my opinions off of what you had said, not why you had meant or implied by what you said. And I never called your dedication, hard work, or loyalty into question, just your interpretation of what it means to put family above all, and that incorrect interpretation was based on a misunderstand. I apologize for upsetting you in any way. |

I guess its just whether you wanna be a better friend or a better mafioso. If you wanna be a friend cover for him, if you wanna keep going up the ladder then report him. I reckon I might cover if it was a mistake I would cover but if he did it on purpose he's a liability and should be wacked. |

I don't personally believe in second chances. Mistake or not, I think if you're choosin' to use your gun you should face the consequences of fucking up.
I don't think there's any argument that could convince me that it's okay to cover for your buddy, as no matter what you're doin' you're being disloyal to your boss. Keep in mind that it's your boss that's keeping you alive. He's got the right to know what's goin' on in his own family. It's pretty pathetic if a guy's got to worry that his family members are holding out on him. The only person who's got the ability to decide who is and who isn't a "liability" is the boss. For all you know, Phil's been makin' a lot of mistakes. |

Ok but if someone came up to me and said that they killed someone and wanna cover it up. I wouldn't help them but I'm not sure I'd call them out unless it was someone important. I say this because if someone puts their trust in you theres a small tug if your thinking about loyalty because loyalty is a two way system of trust. I would prefer a member of my family was protected than, maybe a useless member of anothers revenged. |
