Nestor wasn't an outspoken person. He descended from a line that at times tried their best to have a very active street presence, but things were different now. However, he had a few thoughts going around in his heads for a few weeks now and a recent "Announcement" ( https://mafiareturns.com/comm/thread/577278#8689128 ) made him want to share his thoughts. It seems this would be the best time to get some attention since the topic was already being discussed elsewhere as well.

I want to share a testimony.

There are times (OOC: "characters") in which you may try out different things. Everybody knows that you gain a lot of reputation (XP) from busting people out of jail. Fewer people know that you can also get a whole damn lot of the same reputation by speaking your mind often in the streets, visiting the business district and even expression your opinions in OOC Avenue.

But today I want to remind you about voting. My last few ancestors couldn't be bothered to vote. They were active enough that money was rolling in without the need to resort to that kind of business deals that implied visiting different sites and proving they were human so many times and in so many different ways.

However, when my father died he left me nothing. I had no money and no time to be doing petty crimes and drug runs as often as my father did, but something told me to give the voting a try. And let me tell you, I was rolling in money much faster than I thought I would. Even better, my earnings were increasing without me donating a penny!!

What some people fail to remember is that for every dollar you make voting, your Crew Leader makes a dollar in your name as well. We all know we need good earnings (among other things) to gain the respect of our Crew Leader. Not to mention all the benefits to the whole crime world from voting. There is a reason the Gods have asked us to worship them in this way. The more we vote, the more people think about taking this way of life to make a living and the more they do, the more we all thrive as a whole. I know this may sound like rambling by now, so I will summarize:

VOTE. You make good money, your Crew Leader makes good money. Your earnings increase without actually donating. The community gets new people from the voting sites. IT IS WORTH IT.

Nestor looked around, trying to figure out the reactions to his speech. Were they just going to brush it off as being extremely obvious and a waste of time? Would a few voice their agreement but most would just ignore it? Would his message be able to reach the heart of some indifferent soul that didn't use to believe in Worshiping or "voting" and help him see the benefits and get more people joining the habit of it? Only time will tell.

OK, next time I won't even bother coming up with stupid ways of renaming shit trying to role play stuff if things are just going to be moved to OOC without explanations. This thread, in OOC, sounds ridiculously idiotic.

Please just take it down. I don't want it in OOC.

I mean, you did write it from the perspective of an in game character, but the entire topic you covered is not in character.  Voting is not exactly in character.

Putting something in inverted commas or brackets doesn't make it role played.

From what I can see you didn't.  I can spot only one time you put something in inverted commas.   Also it really isn't roleplaying at all to talk about voting and the money it brings.  The fact you mention OOC and XP takes it completely away from roleplaying, this thread works perfectly fine in OOC.

I would have saved myself all the idiotic stuff I wrote if it was ending in OOC anyway.

There's a few more things than just the topic itself. I like the effort and can understand the frustration of putting time into a thread to have it hit the OOC forums.

To try help you understand why it got shuffled over, these things from my understanding are also OOC...

OK, since we decided to only pay attention to the form and not the content. The admin in charge of my case told me, among other things, that "OOC Avenue" is not an acceptable way to RP the OOC Forum. I was told that if I post the whole thread completely role played, it can go in the streets, so let's not limit ourselves to criticizing, let's offer suggestions to correct it!!!

Nestor, if you really do want to learn how to be better at roleplay, I would start with this thread to understand the concept of in character, and out of character a little better: http://mafiareturns.com/comm/thread/10433

Basically you want to write as if it's your character, the 1920's/1930's mobster addressing the masses, in whatever scenario you create (soap box, street corner, town hall meeting, newspaper article, bar scene, etc). Keeping it in character means to speak about things within the 1920's/30's world our characters are all a part of.

From the point of view of being 'in character' the site itself doesn't exist, the forums don't exist, we the users don't exist, XP points don't exist, other websites don't exist. If you imagine your a mobster in this period and you try to keep it realistic to this fact whilst being creative with ideas like voting, then pretty much anything and everything can be role-played effectively.

The only limit we have is our understanding of the period and ability to be creative so our 'conversation topic' makes sense to this 1920's/30's mafia world.

The way I learn the most is by reading other peoples roleplays. It gives me both ideas on how to roleplay different things, and also inspires me to write more. The more I read good roleplay, the more I feel drawn to write.

I've always been a supporter in voting.  I think in the long run it helps us all out in a transparent way.  I mean we may not see it but its the leading cause for the new mobsters that stumble into our world.
