This is just a place to talk about your favorite memory in the field, or recomend your favorite ways to find game animals on public or private land. Also wat caliber rifle you like to use and watever else you want to say about hunting.

I personally hunt white tail in several public game lands through out Missouri i like to try to stalk white tail but it usually doesnt work for me. Typically sitting under a big tree on a small hill is the set up i like. my tip to you on public land is to get up early and get as far back into the game land as possible and hunt mid-day this way when most hunters leave around 11 or 12 they push everything right to you. I use a 7mm Remington Mag w/ 175 grain winchester power point ammo, (typically no tracking required w/ such a round) please post your tips and memories, I enjoy reading hunting stories, if you want to ask me anything please contact me in game.

I used to go out on weekends a lot to hunt chucker. I remember one time though I was out and had my dogs with me, teaching them how to scare them up and what not, next thing I know one pops up in front of me, scares me so much I fall over backwards, and one of my dogs catches it midair and drops it back in my face. Man, that thing was trying to hard to get away but by that time all four were barking and jumping on me to get it and I just layed there taking the abuse. And after all that it finally flew off. Stupid mutts though, they just kept on going at me like I still had it until I kicked them all away. Now that was one memory I'll never forget. It may not be some huge "it was 4 AM, been stalking this nice ten point buck for 3 days when I finally see him in the clearing..." But hey, it is a hunting memory =)

Last time i went snipe hunting i stood forever in a corn field w/ a big bag and didnt get no snipe. lol but my friends convinced me thats how it was done. but if you mean w/ a shotgun, then were cool lol.

A snipe doesn't exist, not the kind that you can catch with a bag. It's all a clever ruse for your best friends to leave you in the woods holding a bag making idiotic sounds.

We always took new kids to town hunting snipe. Got them messed up and we took them to graveyard and drove away.

I typically rabbit, pheasant, and squirrel hunt. I use a remington 870 express. Cheap but great shotgun. 12 gauge pump. Comes with a deer slug barrel and buck shot. Usually if I'm trying for squirrel I'll take out the winchester model 1897. My grandfathers father passed this gun down to my father who will give it to me. It's seen in the untouchables but it's a great shotgun. The 20 gauge version. I believe. I'm not exact, need to check on it.

In Ohio we can't use rifles for deer sooooo not much of an option, gotta get closer :p

im british so i can only use a shotgun, i use 12 bore, very powerful weapon. I am going to the USA next year, i will go hunting with rifle then

Here in Pennsylvania there's some pretty great public land to hunt. Fort Indiantown Gap, an Army post, allows hunting for a small fee. For Whitetails and bear I use an old but reliable .30-30 Winchester. A Mossberg 10 guage for Candian Geese. A Mossberg 12 guage for turkey and other game birds. I use a Savage .243 for Coyotes and a Savage 17HMR for Squirrles and Groundhogs.

I keep applying for an Elk tag but they only give a handfull out each year. I have yet to get picked. I'm not sure what I'd use for Elk. Any suggestions? Keep in mind that a super long range caliber is not needed. There are few open areas for such shots and the open areas that do exist usually have someone already hunting them. If I was picked I was thinking a 30-06.

WillieRourke, for elk i would suggest a 308 or 300 savage but a 30-06 would get the job done also as long as your not making a very long shot only to round 150 yards or so, same for a 300. But my choice above all others would be a 7mm remington mag, w/ 175 grain winchester power point ammo. I say this that way w/ a 7mag can reach out and touch him at 300 or 400 yds. amd w/ that ammo you will get all the stopping power you need. Write me if you get your elk and good luck
