| Future of Los Angeles - Suggestions & Debate | Started by: Sidere on Jun 06, '15 16:32 |

I hope that, with this speech, there will be a new wave of debate about the (future of) Los Angeles project. I think that the general consensus is that the project has been quite the success so far - with some hiccups along the way. One of the leaders was so successful that he was allowed to move to Las Vegas as a ''real'' leader. This showed us that, while the person in question was experienced, LA could very well serve as a sort of ''training ground'' for new(ish) individuals who want to take a shot at leading a family. Some far better than others, and the best way to encourage competition and also cooperation is by placing them together in a city which is both limited and protected by rules set by the outside community. Is there a need for such a city? Not necessarily, but it doesn't hurt to have one around! The project has been going on for a bit and there aren't really any negative sides about it to the outside world (in my opinion). Especially because we have lots of open space after the recent wars, so needing more room for ''normal'' crews shouldn't be an issue. Should Los Angeles be of the same status as all the other cities, just because it's designer, the late Godfather Curtis (GRHS) has gone? I think not. Did the death of Curtis suddenly elevate all leaders in Los Angeles to the same standards as the other cities? For example, in the midst of the chaos of war, DarthVader moved from his district in Los Angeles to Las Vegas. Why? Can he just do that? Is he suddenly allowed to be a ''normal'' leader. Did he deserve the same chance Templar got? Is it acceptable for a Godfather/City head to just ''pull'' someone out of of LA and auth them in their own cities? I would propose the things below, based heavily upon the late Godfather Curtis' work, with a few omissions and changes. I hope the larger community will spare time and effort to debate this and add further ideas for the future of Los Angeles.
Like before, someone willing to set up in LA will need the permission of their leader, and a mail will have to be send out. If it isn't, then you're fair game for anyone - a rogue. Likewise you should do a speech before setting up, or it's likely that you'll land in the obits before you can say ''Oops.'' That said, you won't be shot if you somehow survive the period without a speech and do it later, after you've set up. The rule is only there to prevent you from being seen as a rogue.
An arbitrary restriction perhaps, but it also encourages growth and competition - exactly what the project is for. Thus, if any family in Los Angeles is seen with more than 20 members, no matter for how long, it will be removed.
We will not allow any sort of ''go in - shoot - go back'' actions. Once you set up, you will remain in the city for the rest of your life. You can step down if necessary, but you will be forced to join one of the other families in Los Angeles. Exceptions can be made, but you'll have to have a very good reason. Permission will need to be asked from an outside city.
Los Angeles isn't a conventional city and no one will be allowed formal ''ownership'' of the city and it's district. The highest rank allowed will thus be that of Don. This rule is also there to stress the unique and isolated position of Los Angeles.
Unlike ''normal'' leaders, Los Angeles leaders won't take part in talks of national importance and they will not partake in any decision making outside of that concerning Los Angeles itself.
To encourage competition, a limit will be imposed upon the number of families/crews allowed in a district. As said, the existing crews will be responsible for the removal of an invading 3rd crew in their district. They will have 24 hours for this task, otherwise the whole district will removed by outside forces. Likewise it is the responsibility of the invading crew to ''make room'' for itself by removing one of the other crews already present.
While Los Angeles position is unique, it will be required to comply with outside rules. It will not be a place where you can openly piss on the rules and standards of our world.
Any attacks from a district will result in the complete removal of that district. A rogue will be dealt with in a conventional way. It is expected that the leader will personally dispose of any rogues from their family, but the outside community will step in when the leader is unable to do so. Naturally outside attacks (rogues) on LA will be dealt with by the outside community and compensation can be arranged when necessary. |

Johnny gradually gets out of bed and brews a fresh cup of coffee like he does everyone morning.. Only this time he see's a debate going on about LA. The word "debate" Really stands out to johnny as his favorite thing to do in the streets is have a mild debate and conversation about certain matters of this "thing of ours"
"Good morning yes the project has been a success so far in my opinion. I have been with the project sense its beginning and am very proud to be apart of the construction of the LA project. But with a few thoughts of my own I have a few suggestions that may be up for debate.."
Johnny poors a shot of whiskey in his coffee to perk up some for his speech and wave of suggestions and ideas..
I would like to put my two cents in here and talk about a few of the rules that Curtis produced for LA First things first: Each family will be restricted to a member capacity of 20 members. Exceed this limit at any time and the family will be removed. About this I think it may be even better to raise the restrictions to 40 members per crew. As everyone in LA simply wants it to be an official state of coarse. The people outside of LA have no mind in this matter of coarse.. But to raise the member cap to 40 will make LA look better and provide a path to becoming a official state in the future. The more people the more intelligences that enter LA. and new ideas will arise. That is the first rule that i think should be changed... Sense I do wanna see LA becoming an authed state hopefully in the near future to come..
Anyone trying to claim the title of Godfather will be shot and his family/district will be wiped out. This is a big thing I would like to talk about.. Sense LA is a project/Testing state why not allow a GF to be authed there just to "test" If a Gf can govern its own state.. This would just be enother step forward in LA to becoming an authed state. The potential for LA to grow needs to rise. If not then how can we see the futrue goals of this state if it stays as is... New ideas and suggestions need to be put into play to progress with this project..
No more than 2 crews per district. If a 3rd crew invades/emerges, it is the task of that crew to remove one of the others and likewise it is the duty of the other crews to remove the 3rd. If this is not done withing 24 hours, the whole district will be removed. Another big thing for LA to progress and Grow more people new intelligences and more potential for LA..
"Some people think this is a state that anyone can set up a fam .. But this is not true. Coming from someone that is in LA we run a lot like you would any other state. No just anyone can set up it take hard work and trust from the stronger residence of LA.. The stronger residence of LA already govern its districts.. So why not have some potential for things to grow.. Like authing a GF, or raising the crews to 3 crews per district. or raising the member cap to 40.."
Johnny first looked at this thread with a sign of relief or maybe to here some good news about this lovely state but was only bummed to hear the same rules were posted..
"My point is everyone In LA doesn't want it to remain a project state forever. Just like anyone.. we have a goal for things to progress and allowing it to is a choice of the current leaders.. changing some of the rules for LA is a start to doing so.. A few things need to be tweaked or in other words changed in order to see a future in this thing.. " |

You talk about implementing changes that will ultimately lead to LA being a ''full'' or normal city, something which I personally want to avoid. I don't think it will be good for the world if LA is allowed to house more people, instead of those people going to (arguably) better cities. Secondly, a city having a Godfather means, to me, that it is a true city, a city that has a voice in important national matters (GFC etc), which is not what I envision for Los Angeles, not if the project is to continue. I don't know if anything has changed - unannounced - that prevents people from setting up in Los Angeles, but it was open to anyone with permission from their leader. I personally would like to see that trend continue. This doesn't prevent from the present districts/crews forming an alliance and repulsing the new guy, but they should still have that right. I understand that LA doesn't want to remain being ''shackled'' forever, but I'm sure everyone knew what they were getting into when they set up there. Some measures can be taken to allowed LA to expand/grow further, but I don't think it should be immediately raised to the same prestige/status as the other cities. I suggest a gradual development instead. I can agree with raising the crew cap to 3 per district, but I disagree with the other ''liberating'' measures you propose. That said, thank you for sharing your thoughts. |

I have strong beliefs on the DarthVader incident. While I am not a fan of people just picking up and moving during a war since it lends a lot of confusion, I am also not a fan of seeing him remain in Las Vegas. From my understanding this was not really an authed move and given we lack evidence in the street speeches that it was I am hard to believe that it is something right. People would suggest that this is a rogue action. It could fit like one. I would suggest sending him back to Los Angeles where he came from. Perhaps he should remain there for at least 60 days before he can disband and join Las Vegas. To me this feels like a stepping on toes thing. And I am only going based off the information in my Aunt's journals. But it stands to reason that if he can just up and move, why can't other people when they want to? It sets a precedent that goes against this community. At least I feel it does anyways and I am only voicing my own opinions on the matter. As far as the Los Angeles project as a whole. I think at some point it will need to end. There should be a time where leaders that have proven themselves can eventually grow bigger headquarters and it would be nice to see Los Angeles be a real city. A city that can govern themselves without a million people micro managing things for them with headquarter size and that outsiders cannot get involved. Let's face it, if someone rogues from Los Angeles it affects everyone, not just them. |

While I heard that it was authed in some form or another by Rev. Al Sharpton my question still stands and I think a lot of people are confused about and don't agree with Vader's move. Not to attack him or anything - but this is a perfect example. I'd argue for him to return to Los Angeles as well. I agree that at some point the project will end. We can't keep the city like this forever, because that would ultimately be counterproductive. But I don't think the time is ripe yet - and the end of the project will need to be through gradual change and ''liberation measures''. |

I have no say in the matter of Darth and I am sure he can speak for himself so i wont touch that subject.. But everyone outside of LA is talking about what LA should be.. In my opinion you all shouldn't of a say in it specially if you are not anyone In charge..You can point out the flaws in the project or in it becoming an official city. But these opinions are coming from knowing the situation they are all assumptions.. But honestly I don't believe anyone that has no say in changing the conditions of LA should of a say in this discussion.. Even the person that started this thread shouldn't have a say,. I am not stepping on any toes or anything but it sounds like you guys are speaking for other people... LA should be an authed state in the near future that is my opinion. I have been in LA and see how well it can run itself anyone outside that fact should not even voice a opinion if they have no idea what they are talking about. They are simply just restating Curtis's rules but have no idea on the inside workings of LA. So you should not even have a say in anything that happens with LA. sorry but that is how I feel.. |

I'm not speaking for others - I'm speaking on what I think should happen to Los Angeles and it's project. A project that has been ongoing (until now?), so it's not like I'm actually proposing that a full city be limited and subjected to rules and regulations. I think it's full well within my rights to explain my ideas and opinions and give others the space to discuss these ideas and propose their own. I agree that at some point in the future LA should and will be a normal city, but again, I do not think this is the time and it would be a shame to see the project die at this point. Again, these are proposals, for the continuation of a project that was already there. While I don't know all of the inner workings of LA, it is still my firm opinion that we shouldn't stop the project at this point. |

Do away with the entire spectacle and give the last man standing the rights to the city. Versace has bid his time, abide by the rules, and earned it to be his city. He wasn't 'moved to stabilize' a city. Nor did he just up and move during the middle of a conflict like DarthVader did. It is the only right and proper thing to do. The powers that be now should do away with such nonsense and in the future, eliminate such silly events. |

Johnny you are entitled to your opinion, so no need to excuse yourself for expressing it. I do think Sidere brings up an interesting discussion though. When Templar's move to Las Vegas was explained on these streets, the state and intent of the LA project was also reconfirmed by Godfather Curtis. Based on Templar's actions before he moved and was deemed capable to bring his operations to a more national scale, operating from Vegas. Despite LA not being responsible for any big issues, does that automatically mean all other leaders from that project deserve the same chance that Templar got? Perhaps society feels they do and then let's see it happen in practice. But the death of one person, does not change the capabilities of another. If two weeks ago they weren't given the same chance that Templar got... why would they get it now? That's a fair point to be discussed, because if regional operations suddenly become national, that affects us all. Versace did a good job so far, but it is also for this "silly" event, as _Ragnarok_ calls it, that he got the chance to pull this off. Obviously this project is a chance for people to prove a different approach or a different career path can be just as successful. Why take that chance away? There's a lot of request for change in this society, doesn't the LA project give that opportunity for whoever deems their selves capable? |

| This was a project GF Curtis alone introduced. It was he who stepped in when the laws he set forth for LA were in question. When the laws of LA were annonced, perhaps then would of been a good time to announce in the event of his death who would reign over LA. | |

Godfather Curtis wasn't the only one enforcing these rules though, the other Godfathers could very well continue this project and continue to enforce it's rules - like before. |

As folks gathered around the soap box Al felt inclined to see what all the fuss was about. Upon entering the crowd he could hear talk of his new hometown which intrigued him to listen, but soon he was more intent on voicing his own opinion instead of waiting till the end... So I got up to where you started making a list of possible rules, and the reason I stop there is because I don't agree with LA still being a project city and I shall state my reasoning shortly while addressing my opinion of everything comming prior to that part. First I'd like to say I have little to no insight on any of what was stated these are merely just this man's opinion. With that out of the way let's get started. Should Los Angeles be of the same status as all the other cities, just because it's designer, the late Godfather Curtis (GRHS) has gone? I think not. Did the death of Curtis suddenly elevate all leaders in Los Angeles to the same standards as the other cities? I wouldn't go and say It would have the same status as all the other cities, no one is looking at LA and calling them an equal as they know how LA got it's start. Though this project can't go on forever and players came from all over the other 5 cities to make a name for themselves with the goal of having a family at the end of this, or in your words a 'real' leader. So why rob them of that, or insult them by making them as you called it 'training grounds'. Next... My opinion on this matter ties in with the other, he came to LA with the goal of having his own family. In the progress he caught the attention of someone who liked what they saw so kudos to him. I personally don't see anything wrong with that.
Finally going back to your talk on a training grounds. Maybe there could be use for that or even just a new comp based on what you layed out, in one of the other two cities that are currently uninhabited. Why somewhere else and not LA? Well simple it's as you said, LA has been a success... Al takes a few steps back and quickly disappears into the crowd. |

Indeed, this project can't go on forever and that isn't my intention either. What I suggested where measures and rules for now - to be liberalize in the future, so that Los Angeles can slowly grow into something more, rather than sudden full-blown equality. LA is indeed a training ground for some people and it was mentioned at the beginning of the project that it wasn't ''real'' leadership, but rather a watered down version of that. |

The LA Event has been active for three months now. You can read the initial announcement here. During that time frame, we've seen people rise and fall. Some people received a chance to prosper, others where killed the moment they landed in LA. It was entertaining for some, but pointless bloodshed becomes redundant after awhile. Also during this event, we saw a LA leader get relocated from LA to Las Vegas, under the guise of helping stabilize the city. Many of us scoffed at that nonsense, but it was the late Godfather Curtis's playground, so no one could actually stop the move. LA carried on, fewer people made the move. As best as I can recall, life was quiet in LA until the recent war. During the bloodshed and bullets, DarthVader relocated to Las Vegas to be with his partner in crime Templar. Good on him for moving out of a project city to skirt the rules and grab more members. I don't know what kind of reaction the powers that be had to this, nor does it matter much. He's still alive, so no one really must have gave a shit. So as we stand here today, Vercase and his captain BigSmo have Hollywood filled. KavinskyFM has Inglewood filled. Neither of them have been 'relocated' or high tailed it to another city to grow their crews. They've played by the 'Wild West' rules and survived. It is time for the powers that be, Blackbetty, Chris_Vaughn, and whoever else is sitting at the table to close this event down. Allow these men to open up their HQs, fill them as other cities can, and watch LA prosper. As I stand here ranting, we have two very empty cities. Don't keep rules in place to limit LA any longer. Those folks deserve much better. |

Do they deserve better? They all knew the rules when they entered. If there wasn't so much indirect interference from the Godfather's people probably would have been even more inclined to enter the event and made it a much fairer spectacle. The death of Technical and the planned introduction of Obscure spring to mind. It's boring and pointless because the late Godfather Curtis made it so whilst dubbing it a "Wild West." It's basically a normal city without any power on a grander scale and crew size limited - but do you expect them to have much power or much bigger families as a fully fledged city? Probably not. |

To be fair Ragnarok I really do hope that the leaders do care. What is to stop someone else from turning around and going, "Well DarthVader did it, why can't we just up and move without everyone's acceptance or awareness?" It just doesn't fit well. Nor does it look good on Templar or DarthVader. |

How doesn't it look good on either of them? Templar was granted to leave by Curtis (The One who created the LA "experiment") and in the midst of a war DarthVader left that "experiment" to help his old friend. I haven't heard current upper structures talking about the move, just low level thugs constantly whining about things that already happened and doesn't concern them. In the immortal words of This Thing of Ours ; if you don't like it, rank up and do something about it. |

How does it not look good on either of them? While Templar may have had leave from Curtis, Curtis probably talked to people first. There was a speech about it. It doesn't mean when Curtis is dead we suddenly drop how things are done and do whatever we want. LA was set up a certain way by Curtis. It seems to still be holding that way currently (for how long? I don't know) so why is it okay for DarthVader to suddenly move during rough times yet Versace and KavinskyFM have enough sense to stay where they were put? Interesting. You can call it whining. Not everything is whining. There are opinions. You can say "well you are just low rank so you don't matter" and that's all on you. However, we are allowed to have opinions and voice them in a manner that is not rude. It's too bad people want to toss in the rank excuse to claim we shouldn't be speaking. We do have brains and thoughts for ourselves. We can speak them in the proper manner. Why do you insist on trying to shut people up? Also the rank up and do something about it is the most used phrase I have heard. If you do that you get classified as a rogue and die anyways. Where is the merit in that? |
