| My Letter to the Godfather | Started by: Odd on Aug 18, '09 20:05 |

Beowulf nods at the wisdom of Marietta's words. "I, for one, am sorry to see Odd go. The Oddfather did many good things for society and his city, and even before becoming a Godfather he was one of the champions protecting those newest in our society from unfair harm." "Today, in fighting a war for what he thought was right, whether he turns out to have been right or wrong in the end, and by fighting to the death against such a large force, he earns respect even in death. We will all die someday, we can all hope to die in a noble fashion. One day, I'm sure I and my ancestors will be feasting with Odd in Valhalla and speaking of this day with great affection and fond memories." He holds up his cup of Mead, "Until that day, I'd hope this matter would be laid to rest so that all who died may rest in peace. So let us drink to the fallen and tell stories of glory, not argue over past miscommunications and disrespect." "Hail to the brave, both living and dead!" He takes a drink and goes to find a place to feast and drink in the business district, hoping others will join him. |

I will respond with an apt comment that will... not only save my face, but will continue to highlight my reputation as a very verbose and eloquent Godmother. Shrugs and walks away. |

Looks at James like he might have a mental disorder. You wouldn't have happened to thought of an acting career by chance? I'm writing a movie called "Who framed Roger Rabbit?" Should be coming out in about 60 years, I think you'd be great for a loony motion picture pal! |

If this last several responses to this conversation were a meat, I would call them "spam". Please make sure you're not straying into this area, gentlemen. |

I sat, in the worn leather chair that calls my office home, reading the beginning of Godfather Odd's letter of "explanation" to Godfather ThomasRourke... and well, was left a bit baffled. This mysterious veil continued to fall over me until I read what Jimmy, a very new rescued member of my crew, had posted. I could not believe my eyes. He was immediately shot, I'd have drawn and quartered him if I could have, and I hope his blood line will think better of contradicting my Godfather in the future. I have found, in my experience, which is not much, that respect and loyalty go farther than anything. They are endless in their supply from each individual and it is the wise of us who know where to invest them. With those two things you can make money and gain power. Afterall, as the Godmother of Detroit once said, "power and money rule the world." Personally, I think that Odd knew what the consequences of his actions would be. He was aware and thus culpable for the events that have transpired. This afternoon when I awoke, after a lovely night with my deceased Right Hand, it was to the ringing of a telephone. My Godfather was already rallying the troops and laying plans two hours before the first shot was fired. It is because of this, because of the swift action of my Godfather, that I am convinced Godfather Odd knew what the fallout would be. Regardless, there was never a moment where I questioned my orders. I did not stop, rub the sleep from my eyes, and ask questions of my Godfather. I did not wonder why Los Angeles was supporting New York, or why the war was happening, or anything at all. I had only thoughts of action, not questions of inaction, on my mind. No one will ever accuse me of being a moronic idiot who questioned his Godfather, thus blindfolding himself and walking in front of the firing squad. We suffer no fools in LA. To part, I say that all of you here, that sit before the graves of the dead and say "Poor Odd, he was a great man," remember that we do not suffer fools. Godfather Odd has some balls, I will give you that, but he knew what was going to happen the second the thought of putting a bullet in his gun crossed his mind. Godfather Rourke, and all of his affiliates, were not going to lay down, quiet and apprehensive, and let the man come in, kill someone and leave a Post-It note on the grave. These familes have more honor than that. |

There is only one think I can infer from this letter, and that is that entire situation revolved around Odd taking written word as absolute Gospel. I certainly do not mean to disrespect the dead, nevermind a deceased Godfather; but even I, a less than knowledgeable man, could not help but shake my head when I read of the cataylsts that led to such a horrific loss of life and profits. Yes, it is undisputable fact that Godfather Rourke had stated that individual Crewleaders in New York should be responsible for their own alliances, and on their head be it should they fuck up. Yet, it is also indisputable fact that Godfather Rourke made this statement nearly half a year ago; so to take it absolute gospel is frankly ridiculous. It is easily feasible, expected in fact, that the playing field will change in such of time and alterations in the balance of power always occur.just as the winter snows melt. However, even if these statements were made mere hours before the attack, Odd's course of action was, in my humble opinion, still unjustified and unnaceptable. The bottom line is that regardless of anything ThomasRourke may have said in the public domain, Marley was still a Don in his city. Regardless of whatever autonomy Don Marley had, for Odd to stroll into a city he had absolutely no authority in and end the life of a Don in that city is to spit in Godfather Rourke's face. Odd may well have had a legitimate complaint, but the moment he 'crossed the rubicon', entered Rourke's domain and shot a Leader under his employ in a totally unsanctioned attack was to nullify that complaint, and pay back the disrespect in kind. |
