My Letter to the Godfather Started by: Odd on Aug 18, '09 20:05

Before speaking I decided that I would like for the folks with opinion of substance to be heard.  War tends to bring out the best and worst, always has always will, however I was pleased with how everyone handled themselves in this conflict.

One thing I have noticed is that there is a dividing line regarding this topic about who was right or wrong in the matter.  I don't think there has to be either.  I can believe that Godfather Odd was right in the principle of what he did, and I was right in what we did in retaliation.

As a leader and city head, sometimes, regardless of the consequences, you have to act on something you absolutely believe in.  Odd did just that, he had felt that the sum total of his relationship with Mr. Marley could only lead down one definitive path, war.  I don't have an opinion on the matters between Odd and Marley, the events that transpired between the two can really only be known in totality by them both.

The reasons for the attack on Philadelphia are simple... First of all, I was not notified about the slaughter that was to occur, some of the shots even taking place inside of my fair city.  In the past, I have always been informed first by other cities who have attacked leaders that have entered into an agreement with me to pay tribute and run a crew out of New York.  Marietta has killed one of those leaders, and JimmyTheLionHeart has killed one, but both Godfathers came to me beforehand to let me know what was going to happen.   Secondly, I was unsure as to why Marley's family had to be killed aside from the fact that hitters such as Paul Walker couldn't pass up the opportunity to take their pound of flesh and showcase their gunplay.  I have to believe that those extra casualties were not needed and the members from Marley's family who were unable to defend themselves needed to be answered for.

Nevertheless, as I am certainly aware, sometimes the need for action to be taken against another leader means you are putting yourself at risk for your beliefs.  I am reminded of when the takedown of Alfonsi Timello occurred, the reasons were absolutely valid in the eyes of the attacking parties, and although everyone hoped JimmyTheLionHeart would take it at face value that it was something that needed to be done, everyone who took part in the attack knew and accepted that there was a strong possibility that he would take us to war.  And, much like in this circumstance, war he did.  However, if we had lost that war, I know I would have been at peace with the action that caused it, as I am sure Odd was when Philly began to drop following the death of Marley.

Odd was a smart man who always knew the score.  He knew what could happen by killing Marley, otherwise all the Philadelphia leaders would not have taken protection shots after wiping out TSCOSP.  When you run a city or a crew, you have to think of everything that can happen before you make a big decision as Odd did based on the pro shots they had taken.  If Premier had joined Caius, Noir, and Phantom Ghost on their attack of Los Angeles, he would not be the Godfather there right now.  It is all action and reaction.

When this is looked back on, I'm sure there will be many spins given to it, but I myself will see this war as something in which two Godfathers made decisions they believed were right, and the rest as they say, is history.
