Lexie's Diner Started by: Neveah on Oct 08, '15 01:27

If Neveah has learned anything over the past few weeks, it was that the streets were an enticing place. She had managed to find the last remaining member of her sister’s family and had learned what had led to her sister’s death. It gave her a sense of closure and she honestly had planned to return home after that conversation but one thing had led to another and…well, here she was. Not just still in Detroit, not just still on the streets but now she was in her own family, one that had risen from what was left behind.

What Neveah had found especially…addicting...was the gambling. She had quickly gotten caught in the scene and turned what little Lexie had left her into a much bigger pot. And now she was starting to realize was that she needed a front - a legitimate business behind which she could hide her incoming funds. So she spent a few days walking the streets of Black Bottom until she realized what was missing –an all-around American diner.

Another few days passed before Neveah had found the perfect spot, a little whole in the wall restaurant that was easy enough to buy out. The best part was the rather large basement that Neveah could use for storage and…other things. She went about changing the entire interior until she was satisfied that the place was ready to open.

When a customer would walk in, they would see a large counter lining the left side, and behind it a space for the staff and an opening to the kitchen. Comfortable looking stools were along the counter, easy for a customer to pop in for a quick meal. The right side was lined with booths and in the back, a couple quiet tables for those customers that needed a bit of privacy.

The restaurant’s menu was posted on the wall behind the counter. It was a classic, featuring all day breakfast like eggs, sausage, bacon, hot biscuits, oatmeal and grits. In addition, it would have hamburgers, chicken sandwiches, fries, and steak dinners. Simple, straight forward meals of a decent variety and a fair price.

Neveah took one last look around the room, checked to make sure the kitchen was ready and then flipped the door sign to open. Today was the grand opening of Lexie’s Diner and she found herself excited to greet her first few customers.

Tommy had watched work being done on a new business within the city and had heard rumblings about a new establishment of one of his members. Seeing the place looked as if it were finally open he decided to venture in.

"How's it going Neveah? Nice place you have here. You've put a lot of great work in and I can't wait to get some of that delicious smelling food in my stomach!"

Tommy chuckles as he finds a place to sit.

"I'm feeling crazy, how about a cheeseburger, mustard, pickles and onions only. Oh! And some french fries! It's been so long since I've had french fries! I hope you have soda as I'm not much on drinking alcohol with my meal? Anyways, yes, that sounds amazing!"

Tommy smiles at Neveah as he looks around the proud new business.

Argile arrived in town and really wanted a bite to eat. Finding Lexie's Diner he wandered inside and took a seat and looked the place over. It was obvious to him that Neveah whom he had heard was the owner, had done an awful lot of work to get this place up and going. Introducing himself to Neveah, hev said, "I am Argile and I'm from Philly". "I own a couple of businesses there and I am looking to meet other business owners from around the country".  "I was wondering If I might get a cheeseburger with fries and a coke"?

Neveah smiled as the first to enter her diner was none other than Tommy. “Hey boss man. Welcome to my humble establishment. Took me a little while, but I rather like it.” She stood behind the counter, dressed casually and ready to take his order. “Hamburger, mustard pickles and onions and a side of French fries, coming right up. And sure I’ve got Soda. A few choices, ginger ale, coca-cola, grape and root beer. Got a preference?” Neveah grinned as another customer entered the diner. “Think about it and I’ll get you a glass in a minute.” She slid Tommy’s order to the kitchen before heading over to Argile.

“Nice to meet you Argile, welcome to Detroit. What kind of buisenesses do you own out in Philly? I’ve spent some time out there but haven’t done enough exploring.” Neveah wrote his order and sent that to the kitchen while she poured him a glass of coke.

Tommy nodded to the other patron and quickly looked to Neveah.

"I'll have a coke as well dear. Something about that sounds, fitting. Definitely, a coke to drink."

Cin was up to her usual walk about Detroit.  She loved the look up lit up shop windows and restaurants in the evening so it was not surprising she soon found herself outside of a restaurant she had not had time to visit yet. Spotting Lexie's Diner, Cin soon made her way to the doors and walked through them.

There was a smell of food and as her eyes adjusted she noticed some familiar faces. Not wanting to intrude on them she found herself at a table on her own. She wasn't overly comfortable in social situations but was determined to try out the diner. It had been a long day and Cin was starving.

While Cin waited she looked over the menu. Her fingers traced patterns on the table as she tried to be as patient as possible while she waited for someone to come and take her order.

Nessa rushed into the door, shaking off the newspaper that she was holding over her head to protect her hair from the rain. "Jeesh." She said, "Its raining buckets out there." she looked around and then headed straight to the counter. She set the newspaper on the counter and then shrugged out of her jacket. As she took a seat she reached for a menu, "Something in here smells amazing." She said, "I'm so glad you guys are open, you'd be surprised how difficult it is to find a place to eat around here after a certain time." she chuckled and looked over the menu.

As he would be visiting Detroit for the next few hours, Nixe had time to kill. Per his custom, he spent his minutes walking around the business district, popping in and out of various businesses that caught his attention. It wasn't look, however, before his stomach began to rumble. Attracted by the delicious smells filtering out of one of the shops, a certain Lexie's Dinner, the youngster strode in, looking for a bite to eat. And boy, he wasn't disappointed. As it seemed like one of those establishments where one were to seat themselves, he slipped into a booth by the window, already perusing the menu. There were so many choices, and yet he could only choose a few.

After a 3 hour flight from Chicago to Detroit, and the aeroplane only serving a stale cookie, Jargon was starving and was absolutely fanging for some type of cooked meal. He pulls up a chair and reaches for the menu. Just as he grabs the menu, a fine lass lent over the table and asked "need a drink, sir?" Jargon was shocked, never in his life had he seen such good service from a restaurant before.

"Just a water please Ma'am. 3 or 4 ice cubes as well, preferably a large glass. The plane right got me thirsty and all", he replies.

Jargon picks up the menu and goes straight to the big lunch section of the menu. "hamburgers, sandwiches, fries, even steaks!" he mumbled to himself before trying to toss up between the hamburger and steak. Before he could decide, the waitress gently places the glass of water on the table. "Are you ready to order?" she asked. "I'll take the steak, no no, the hamburger. You know what, I'll take both, with extra fries on the side too. I could eat a whole pig right now" jargon claimed.

Nessa had been sitting over in the other table alone, and Jargon couldn't help himself but go over and talk to a good friend whilst waiting for his lunch.

"How are you going today, Nessa? Taking a break from the rain outside whilst chowing down some food as well are we?

Neveah served up two cokes and within a few minutes, a couple of hamburgers and fries for her first two customers. The place was starting to get busy and her smile only grew as more people started to flow into her new diner. She wanted the opportunity to greet all of her customers personally so while Tommy and Argile were enjoying their meals she slipped over to the table where Cin was sitting.

“Welcome, nice to see you Cin. Can I get something started for you?”

As the place got busier, she watched approvingly as her wait staff jumped in to start serving people. One went to Nessa and one went to Jargon while she waited for Cin’s order. After taking her order, Neveah made her way over to Nixe.

“Hi there. My name’s Neveah. Have you had a chance to decide what you’d like?”

Tommy sat enjoying his food and the sight of many people coming in to the new business here in the city

"Getting quite the following here Neveah, good for the city. Also, a great burger! Love it!"

Tommy turns his attention back to his food

Cin smiled over at Neveah. She waited patiently as Jargon was taken care of for Neveah to get back.

"Wonderful place you got here. I'd like four scrambled eggs, two sausages, two pieces of toast and a soda please. Dark preferably."

She smiled and thought about how wonderful breakfast at any time of the day would be. It was definitely delicious sounding and would be most delicious to eat she was sure.

Nixe smiled at the restaurant owner, before setting his menu down. "Hi Neevah, its a pleasure to meet you. And I have," he rumbled out, though not unkindly. "I would like two eggs, fried, coupled with your sausage side dish. Could I also get a small stack of pancakes, please?" As an after thought, the youngster decided to introduce himself as well. He knew her name, it was only right for him to give her his. "I'm Nixe, by the way."

Nessa looked up from her menu and smiled, “Jargon!” she exclaimed with a smile, “It is so good to see you!” she told him. She patted the stool next to her, “Please, come and take a seat.” She told him. “I’m well, I had some business here in the city, and the meeting ran late. You’d be amazed at how long these big wigs can go without food.” She told him just as her stomach began to growl. She wrapped her arms around her middle and gave a chuckle, “I on the other hand, need more than coffee and whiskey to survive.” She laughed again, “And this rain,” She turned to look out the window and shook her head, “This is completely nuts. I wouldn’t be surprised if it carries on like this the rest of the night.”

She picked up her menu and looked it over, “Have you eaten here before?” She asked the man next to her. “Because I can not decide for the life of me, what I should get!” She smiled, “Although I know for sure I want a vanilla milkshake.” She pointed to it on the menu.

As Neveah approached them Nessa nodded her head, “Well,” she said slowly, “I know what it is I want to drink.” She pointed at the menu again, “Could I please get a large vanilla milkshake with extra whipped cream and cherries?” she asked the woman. “And as for food…” she glanced over at Jargon, “I think we’re going to need a few minutes still.”

“Nice to meet you Nixe. I’ll have that order out in no time.” She went to the kitchen to drop off Cin and Nixe’s orders and to check on Tommy and Argile. She smiled at Tommy’s comments, nodding appreciatively. “I’ll admit it’s a better turnout than I had hoped for opening day. Guess I found a good niche in the area.”

Neveah made sure their drinks were full and then headed over to where Nessa and Jargon were sitting. “Vanilla milkshake, good choice. And of course, take all the time you need, but the gentleman already ordered, his food should be out any moment now.” Neveah glanced at Jargon. “Should I have it brought here instead of your table?”

"Take all the time you need," Nixe replied kindly, acknowledging that the restaurant was busy, and priorities had to be set. He didn't mind the wait - he had a couple of hours before his plan would be ready and therefore felt no need to move anytime soon. His business in Detroit was done for the time being, so the hours he had left were for relaxing. It felt good to take a day off, once in a while.

Argile found himself on streets of Detroit and was looking around the business district. He liked Detroit, it was a blue collar town made up of hard

working people. It was especially in towns like Detroit that he liked to mix with the people and get their "vibe".    Coming across Lexie's Diner

he thought "perfect place for eggs, sausage, and coffee"

entering the establishment  was like stepping into his kitchen at home. the smell of breakfast food and coffee was everywhere.

taking a seat at counter, he realized he needed a newspaper. Looking around he found one for sale. so purchasing the paper, he headed back to

the counter and waited to be waited on.

After spending some time with my lady friend, I walked her back to her apartment and gave her my warmest good bye. I then walked back to my hotel when I spotted this Diner. I know, I just had dinner and I'm still hungry right? Well, I don't know how others could do it, but me, I never eat that much when out on a date. I'm not sure if it's my inert shyness or I just don't have the appetite. Anyway, I went in and sat on the nearest available seat. I scanned the menu on the wall and made my order.

"I'll have a coffee, sausage, bacon and eggs. Do you have fried rice?" I asked and waited for my order. I spotted Argile and nodded .

Walking to his abode after a night reconciling with an old friend, Harvey stopped and looked at his watch. He nodded and headed for Lexie's Diner for a quick drink. The place had a few patrons, but it's to be expected at the wee hours of the morning. Harvey walked to an empty seat the counter, sat down and stared up at the menu.

"Hmm... I'm not really in the mood for a bite to eat. Do you carry liquor?"
