The Godmother, The RHM and The Bet Started by: Jono on Sep 27, '09 16:47

Jono enters Cheesesteak Restaurant after finishing the days scheduled business and looks around the room. He notices alot of the Philadelphia's 'inner circle' and a few of their associates dotted around the restaurant. He takes the index fingers of both his hands and sticks them in his mouth. As he blows out it lets off a loud whistle and grabs everyone's attention. He smiles and calls for the music to be turned off and for the civilian restaurant staff to be sent on break.

Have a seat Tigers and Wolves. I have news. Our beloved ScipitaRourke finally challenged the Godfather. Needless to say... I'm not frowning and grunting with anger, am I?

His smile extends from ear to ear as people start to realise what he was talking about.

That's right you lot. She has finally done it. It has been a long time waiting and well deserving. How can we congratulate her? She is at her home as we speak washing up and changing. So we have a bit of time before she comes down here. You have a think while I reminisce. Feel free to listen in.

I remember when I was a small boy, wondering what the hell my father did for a living and who that young lady was that my father was always talking to. I was always just told that her name was Scipita. I don't remember much about her. But my father and her were pretty close. My mother seemed to like her too. However, I do remember her daughter very well. They had the same name so I had to call her by her middle name, Rianne, to save confusion when her mother was in the same room.

Rianne and I grew up together. We had an easy life. Our parents seemed to be quite wealthy. Not without working for it though. My father would always have me do chores around the house to help my mother out before he would even consider giving me any pocket money. Scipita too with Rianne. Not that we had anything to spend it on really.

Anyway, A few weeks went by and I hadn't really heard from Rianne or even seen Scipita all that much. Which was rather strange. Scipita was a guest at our house atleast once a day. She would always bring Rianne with her as my mother would babysit. I had got worried. My mother wouldn't give me a straight answer as to why and my father didn't seem himself. He seemed distant and uneasy. One day my father had told me Rianne was staying with some friends of her mothers. I found this very weird but managed to convince my father to take me with him one day when he visits these friends. When we arrived, Rianne and I hugged and and she started to explain to me why she hadn't been around all that much. I couldn't believe it. Scipita was dead. Not only was she dead, she had been shot dead. Murdered. I hugged her again and she whispered into my ears.

"We need to talk, privately"

We went up to her room and she was clearly agitated. She was breathing heavy and glaring with anger. She began to explain to me what she had found out. Apparently her mothers friends were not very quiet while drunk after a trip to the local speakeasy it seems. She explained what our parents where doing for a living. How they were high ranked gangsters from New Orleans and New York. Which would explain the long 'business trips' they frequently went on to the aforementioned cities. I knew they weren't from New Orleans. I guess they had family over here or something. Anyway, she told me how her mother was killed. I was mortified. Apparently she made a mistake. Broke a rule set by her Godfather which cost her her life. It was that moment that Rianne told me something that will stay with me for my lifetime. She said;

"Jono, I can't take it. I can't sit back and live a sheltered life knowing my mother was killed this way. I will not sit back and watch as life passes us by. I am going to join the mob. I am going to rise through the ranks and show them all my mother was a good woman. That she did not make a mistake in me. I will become Don and very possibly Godmother before I die"

So there she went. I could do nothing to sway her mind. The next day something unbelievable happened. While wandering through her local New York pool halls and down the docks she ran into one of the most infamous of mafioso in this day and age. Everyone in New York and any crime dominated city had heard of him. It was ThomasRourke. The Godfather of New York. She almost dropped to the floor in amazement. She was told she would never meet him. Unless he wanted it to happen. You see, her mother Scipita was a member of Godfather ThomasRourke's. Not only was she a member, she served as his Left Hand Man for a period of time. As she got herself together, a bodyguard of ThomasRourke's asked her to come over. To feel privileged that the Godfather of New York wanted to meet her. Turns out he recognized her. "You have your mothers looks" he says to her. "What are you doing out here?" She is astounded. She replies quietly but gaining confidence as the Godfather smiles.

"Well, sir. I recently found out how my mother lived. How she died. I want to do well by my mother. I want to make her proud and to carry on her proud work. In all honesty sir, I want to join the mafia or New York."

Godfather ThomasRourke smiled and nodded to a few of his bodyguards. They knew what he meant. He only hires the best. The few bodyguards stood behind Rianne and she started to worry. She didn't own a weapon or even know how to use one at this point. The Godfather smiled again, looking her directly in the eye he said, "You work under me now. You remind me of your mother. She was a great associate of mine. These are your protection." She couldn't believe it. One day of looking for a New York mafia family and she bumps into her mothers old boss. It seems it was her lucky day.

One day my father came home earlier than usual. It was the afternoon, usually he's never back until late evening. He seemed really agitated and worried about something., which was strange for him, he had always been level headed. He hugged me and my mother hard. Patted me on the head and told my mother of a large sum of money that he had been saving for a rainy day. He then left in a hurry. That was the last I had seen of my father. Rianne had arranged to meet me for lunch in a fancy Italian restaurant. She had news apparently. When meeting her I saw that same look of despair in her eyes I remember from the day she told me about her mother. She told me how my father had died. About the war that he took part in and ultimately met his demise in. This gave me the same desire and willingness to follow in my fathers footsteps as she had when her mother met an untimely death. She told me that is exactly what she had hoped for and had arranged for me to join Deimne. A recently set up Don of Godfather ThomasRourke in New York.

Soon after, Rianne had been asked to become a family Boss in New York. As we grew up together, she trusted me prothusely and asked me to be her Right Hand Man. Beowulf, a long time friend of both myself and Rianne was made Left Hand Man. Together, we set up The Purring Tigers.

The rest as they say, is history.

Today, we know her as Godmother ScipitaRourke.

Jono then stands up, shot glass in hand and makes a toast to his Godmother. The guys join in and slam their glasses to the table cheering loudly. He then picks up a bucket of water he had hidden under the table. lifts it above his head and begins to pour the water all over himself. The others looking on in amusement and bemusement.

Congratulations old friend.

Steps to the podium and runs a hand through his hair and takes the cigar from his mouth. He surveys the crowd looking at the familiar faces young and old. He takes another puff from his cigar before he begins.

ScipitaRourke we here in Philadelphia are so honored to be here with you to celebrate this glorious day. In the time I have served you, you have been a model of what we should all be. You are fair and kind but firm and learning from you has been an honor indeed. When I was a kid a young thug on the street you took me in and mentored me. You defined and shaped my life I owe everything I am today to you and a few select others who helped me along the way. I proud to be here by your side at this moment in time and I look forward to sharing the future here with you. God Mother ScipitaRourke I wish you and the city of Philadelphia the best.

Turns and embraces the God Mother of Philadelphia and pledges his continued loyalty. Then walks over to Jono and stands next to him.

Naomi brushes a tear of joy from her eye after listening to the story Jono had to tell.  The pride in his voice was inspiring and she had witnessed first hand the creativity and beauty of the woman who was now the Godmother of Philadelphia.  She takes a glass of champagne and silently raises it in a toast to Jono and Scipita.

Congratulations, both of you!  May God watch over and protect you, as you protect this city!
