Just wondering if anyone else is watching this...

Pretty crazy stuff from all I've seen, now the airport is out of fuel and airspace is crowded and flights are getting diverted to Santo Domingo. FAA has cut off all flights to Haiti. The ports are in bad condition as well as the roads are crumbled and the cranes used to unload the ships are bent in half. I hear they may be doing a landing on the beach using amphibious vehicles according to a naval officer.

Yeah,that was terrible. As much as I like the idea of helping this country,however,I am a bit ticked...Obama,Atleast I heard is going to be giving them 100 million,(I may be wrong) and the US,or atleast California and a few other states are in debt...Which I believe should be his top priority at the moment,is to put ourselves before them..

Well Californians put them selves in that spot and they arent starving, homeless and dying...............

So does that mean we need to be feeding, sheltering and ensuring the overall public health of the many other poverty stricken countries? I don't just pay taxes to see it go into foreign governments pockets. While humanitarian assistance is a beautiful thing especially when a combined effort in which many countries partake, the home country comes as a priority.

Though, lets not get off subject here.

I've made a donation through my unit here on base as well as have packed crates of food and an assortment of things for the mission heading out to Haiti.

My wishes and hopes are out there with those people, it's definitely a tragedy.

Yep we're selfish because I'd rather let someone in a DIFFERENT country starve than let someone in OUR country starve.

You think I'd like to see 100 million dollars go towards something our country needs? Hell yes. We aren't selfish, we're optimistic.

This isnt about America and its inability to handle its cash, its about the misfortunes in Haiti.

Haiti need's our help. 100 million dollars is not going to rebuild Haiti so if that pisses you off, wait untill future contributions. Haiti needs the money alot more than us right now, we're not out laying in the streets dying, homeless, starving. Are you telling me your going to let thousands of people just slowly lie there and die? ...

Alot of people are jaded about America giving cash to other countries. We have a growing unemployement situation, hundreds of thousands of schools are barely being funded, and then there is our growing homeless population. I dont believe that Americans are totally agianst helping others, but at some point in time, we would hope that OUR countries issues would be brought to the forfront instead of worrying with others

If you're so concerned about the welfare of Haiti and her people why don't you just go over there and make a difference? Hell, write your congressman and recommend your aid package, see if it passes! Don't set labels upon others because they aren't emptying their accounts for the cause and or are making remarks at the contribution of The United States, we're all entitled to our opinions. 

Haiti isn't the only country in the world that is facing a horrible time. The United States has her own issues that are being worked upon and in my opinion take priority.

I cant just up and leave my job. I know how tough it is in America right now. My dad's a truck driver and stays gone 3 months at a time and we've been cut down to 3 days a week at work. All Im saying is open your hearts, help out if you want or dont. America isnt that poor atm. $5 shouldnt put anyone in debt. Anyways this is my last reply upon this rediculous issue.

You people actually have a problem with $100 million (which is a tiny fraction of your governments annual expenditure) being given to those who are suffering in Haiti? Comments such as "The United States has her own issues that are being worked upon and in my opinion take priority." actually make me sick. Oh shit you cant buy that new game you wanted, boo fucking hoo. People die across the world everyday due to hunger and disease as well as natrual disasters but you are unwilling to take the slightest hit to your standard of living to drastically improve anothers? If you're going to complain about something, maybe you could start with your nations ridiculous military budget.
