Weapon Naming. Started by: TheDeathShouts on Feb 03, '10 10:25

I'm going to talk about a taboo topic here.

Well... What would you think If we could have some info about someone's (ours) Gun skill?

My idea was to start with a simple .45 and end up with a tommy gun or something like that. I've seen a list of guns from that era and it was a big one, so we'd have a big variety. The information about gun you're holding would be known only to you. Whenever your skilled popped up enough, you'd get a new weapon (better accuracy/more damage). Someone could see your gun if you tried wacking him and failed too.

Suggestions on this? Criticism? I'm open to everything. :)

Report Post Tip

How will you get a new gun? buy it? or you saying more ranges you do and kills you get your gun upgrades?

Report Post Tip

Could be buying.. By getting your skill upgraded, a new gun could be bought. (For higher skilled-guns you'll get a message saying "You can't handle that weapon yet")

Report Post Tip

Amazing Idea. With a better gun, your chance of succeeding on a whack would increase too. We could have 2-3 different guns available at each rank, with the better ones costing a lot more.

Report Post Tip

Hmmmm, I think this is a great idea. I personally don't know how many pistols there were back in the day but.. maybe if there was a few perhaps we could code something along the lines of if your Gun Skill is good enough you get the upgraded pistol. Which perhaps gives you more of a chance to hit your target or something.

But overall this is a cool idea.

I just noticed this has been suggested before and was rejected. It wasn't exactly the same though.

I don't think this suggestion is alike to the other one. I'm not talking about bats etc. I'm talking about the quality of your gun and having a hint on your ability by given the "go" to buy a new weapon. We have the list for the weapons and it would be a nice addition to the game.

Thanks everyone for their replies! :)

Report Post Tip

Ah.. To clear out something. When getting a new weapon, your skill won't be boosted! It will only get activated! (We don't need stronger wack capabilities..)

Geraldine pictures herself carrying two Einfields No 2 Mark 1 and smiles.
Sounds good!Guns can be bought from the CLs as an alternative way of tributing. We can develop a black market too. These are the first ideas that crossed my mind as I was reading the post.Well, they are susceptible of improvement.

Here's a link about guns available at  '30s:

Erm,here's the actual link:

Well, It could also be a cosmetic change and forget about buying it. As Geraldine said, your CL would automatically give it to you as you progress. I'd like to say "I pointed my Tokarev TT on his head and bang!" rather than "gun". :)

Report Post Tip

I like the idea aswell,

Report Post Tip

Good idea.

What if each gun you had also had a limit on the skill.  Meaning, say you personally have the ability to carry a level 3 gun, but your using a level 1 gun, your skill in shooting is the max of the level 1 gun.  So you have to upgrade your gun to get the skill level for it.  Otherwise it is simply a cosmetic change.  I think if we are to ask them to work on a code change, there should be more to it than just to look cool.

Report Post Tip

well do you mean it changes after you train at the shooting range or just selectable, or a combonation of it?

Report Post Tip

i like this idea and there could also be another tip along the lines so and so has such a gun and maybe it costs 500k so not many people would go around constantly buying them.

Report Post Tip

i like the idea alot. i think you should only actually be able to start upgrading your gun after made man though

Report Post Tip

Seems many opinions were said here.
My final suggestion, following Geraldine and Mr_Black improvements will be:
Make weapons purchasable. Weapons won't give a boost to your skill. However, if you have a cheap (or not upgraded) weapon, your skill will be lowered.

Does the gun really matter? Not everyone kills in the same way, after all it is a RP game. Some may prefer to be up close and personal with a .22 double tap through the eyes ricocheting around the skull and turning the brain to mush, others might prefer to be on a rooftop 200 yds away with a .303 lee Enfield rifle, whilst others may prefer a Tommy Gun Drive-by shooting.

At the end of the day, the only person who would know what gun you have is you, and anyone you decided to tell. Personally I feel the wack system works fine the way it is, and having a 'gun' gives you a great amount of leeway when writing RP threads as to what gun exactly you carry.

If you kill me, it will make no difference to me whether you shot me with a Colt 45 or a Thompson SMG... I'm not gonna sit back and go, 'Cool, I was killed by such and such a weapon.

Once you start messing with the guns people earn or buy, you need to start messing with defensive capabilities to balance it out. Furthermore, why should someone be punished or penalized because they only have a poor weapon when someone else has a crate full of TNT. Surely that is already dealt with in how you train your gun? If I don't use the range, shoot inactives and basically train my gun, my wack ability will suck, where as if you visit the range 50 times and shoot 200 inacs your's will be fairly super. Further penalizing those who have poorer guns would be an exercise in needless futility.

Just my 2 cents on the subject.

Report Post Tip

well i think this is a good idea, and that the final weapon should be the .50 cal Browning. and a medium weapon of the Thompson and the 45 isn't a low enough weapon, a .38 would work.

Report Post Tip

This is a suggestion that has been proposed and rejected many times.

If, however, a variety of firearms is going to be considered as a way to improve customization, I'd like to contribute the following.

As a certain rank/skill is gained, different types of guns could be purchased that would offer different bonuses/penalties.

For example:

The standard gun would be what we all get after 75 petties- the pistol.

For a price one could purchase the silenced pistol, which would moderately decrease the chance of hitting the target, but would give a much, much higher chance of a stealthed shot.

Or one could purchase the shotgun, which moderately decreases the chance of hitting the target but greatly increases the risk of anyone who attacks you fatally wackbacking.

Or one could purchase the rifle, which would increase the chance of hitting the target but greatly decreases stealth, increases the chance of a fatal wackback when shooting, and perhaps even lowers the shooters defense.

Just my two cents, IF the idea is being considered. Not convinced it's necessary, really.

This Idea was suggested three years ago. But I still think it is a good one. When you reach...made man lets say and you have a maxed lvl 1 gun when next you go to the shooting range and you complete the training you should get a message in your personals like " you can now get a lvl 2 gun." and then you an ask your CL to give you a LVL 2 weapon from the family armory whatever kind it maybe. ( by kind of gun i mean like a 9 mm or something)
