To re-visit a couple of previously considered suggestions...

The first being to make the suicide / retire option a little more realistic and informative. Those wishing to retire would surely write a letter to explain why but more importantly those wishing to suicide would likely write a suicide note. I think it would be an interesting addition to have this as an option for people to see / read. I think this is better as an addition to the character rather than a shout out in the streets - most of those wishing to retire / suicide have a very good reason for it and would most likely write a private note...maybe an additional tab or something on the obits screen where this document could be viewed? I'm sure others might have alternative / better suggestions about how and where this document could be accessed.

The other is for long term game characters to have the option to leave a 'will' for part of their wealth / bodyguards or anything else that peeps deem valuable / transferable...of course there should be an age limit on this and also a cap limit on what % of things can be included in the will etc...again I am sure people will add / suggest alternatives to this also...

Just chucking it out there! :)

No wills, too much money would stay in the game. This has been suggested and shot down many times before for that specific reason.

Suicide notes/retire notes would be pretty much a pointless thing to add. If you want to do that you can just mobmail specific people before you do it, or just write a note in your quote in your profile about your reasons. Simple?

The suggestions are made to make the experience more realistic and authentic - I do appreciate things like too much game money etc which is why I mentioned restrictions. I know the wills in particular have been circulating for a few years as a suggestion, that in itself speaks for itself. As yet there has been no solution found between the suggestion and the requirements of the game, that's not to say it should be tossed aside. We have a good mix right now of seasoned players and new blood - a great combo for fresh ideas and a new perspective. I'm not saying it must be wills but something - I ring it unlikely that a g/f would not make arrangements should the worse occur as an example. The reading of said wills or whatever it is referred to would be an interesting addition to the game.

Again re the suicide notes this was suggested as an authentic feature...we have seen posts already from other highlighting the lack of continuity in retaining the r/p aspect of the game - for example attending a funeral to say no w/s needed. I simply am suggesting that to click on someone's profile is not the same as having a feature to write a note at those times. Again I'm not suggesting this is the complete answer we have both experience and fresh eyes amongst us so this was the beginning of a communication to see what others thought not throwing things out there to be shut down without further thought or consideration.

I think the Retirement Letter / Suicide Note would be a good addition. Oftentimes, these are done in times of crisis, stress, argument or anger. No one thinks to add a reason to their profile before they do this, however - if they clicked the retire button and it asked them for a suicide note, someone would then have it blatantly in their face "Yeah.. I'm gonna tell the whole game why I'm going!"

I +1 this idea.

Wills - While this is a good idea and I do like it - it's true, a Godfather would leave something to their nearest and dearest. However, money, bodyguards, etc would all affect the game too much. So perhaps people could just leave something aesthetic? Such as a gold watch? And if say.. My Godfather left me a goldwatch, I would then get that note to say so when they died. Maybe I could then have an option in my profile that states "Show inherited items?" and then on my profile, it would show "Inherited: Godfather JohnSmith's most prized golden watch."

I think that would also mean something much more than a few mil or some bodyguards. It'd also be more realistic.

"No one thinks to add a reason to their profile before they do this" - yes they do, I've seen it numerous times before. If you were planning on asking, no, I can't give you a specific example because I don't remember and I'm not looking through every obit to find one :P

mouse-potato your insinuation that this hasn't been given thought or consideration and has been 'shut down' is quite frankly insulting. Just because I didn't say a lot, doesn't mean I didn't give it thought. I've also given these exact suggestions thought previously when they've been suggested, and was much more verbose before when I've talked about them. You'll have to forgive me for being tired of repeating myself.

Borya I think you make a very valid point about the circumstances a person finds themselves in when considering retiring / suicide and yes often time is of the essence so no time to 'manage profile' but an option once you begin the process might well mean that some would feel they might like to add a letter to their actions at that point.

What a great idea about something aesthetic instead of cash etc...gets round the game issues / challenges whilst still retaining authenticity - people can choose then to include the info on their tag or not - we talk a lot about NOT asking people for their bloodline however there are many who would be proud of theirs and to have these items listed to demonstrate it would be an interesting addition. This is exactly why I love these threads - they start in one place, people contribute and have other ideas or alternatives and it develops and grows!

UnderwearBuddy I am sorry that my post appears to have provoked you to such an extent, I simply came here for an open debate and for a conversation from old and new members alike as to suggestions and ideas around the 2 topics I raised. You have made your point very clear and I have heard you that you do not wish to repeat yourself, there certainly is no need to.

The suggestion itself didn't provoke me at all, just explaining why my answer was short.

If you haven't read previous suggestions and fancy it, here are the ones regarding wills with some feedback in them:

I can't find any previous suggestions regarding suicide notes and whatnot, but I'm sure I've read someone suggesting it before. Could be entirely wrong though. Don't get me wrong, it IS an interesting idea - I just am not sure it'd get used any more than people using their quotes or mailing their friends currently, and in that sense, would it be worth the time/money coding it anyway?

Report Post Tip

Thanks for the links UnderwearBuddy - I am aware both of these topics have been discussed over the years - I was dipping a toe to see what the current members have by way of alternatives, other ideas or support for them given the mix of old and new players....

From a personal point of view I would have certainly taken advantage of the suicide note option on almost all occasions where this kind of action was needed.....

Regarding the wills I think Borya makes an interesting and better suggestion tbh than my original one where I take your point and the restrictions regarding game cash etc...

I can't comment on coding etc as that simply isn't my bag at all! :)

Report Post Tip

Aren't wills already in the game though? Just buy a bunch of credits before you die your next character keeps the credits...

Report Post Tip

Not in favour of wills. If you use your head you can have money banked with people to come back to or, as suggested, invest in credits. You can sell them and set yourself up when you die and return.

Suicide note... No, there are many other features that the coders can pay attention to. More important features. If you want to leave a suicide note use your quote or post a well role-played thread in the Streets for the world to see. This does NOT need to be a coded feature in my eyes.

Report Post Tip

"As yet there has been no solution found between the suggestion and the requirements of the game" As burnett above suggested, credits are essentially wills for the cash element. I'm not sure what else you'd expect to be passed down to the next generation other than maybe bodyguards that weren't shot in the first x amount of hours of your death, or maybe innate stats?

one reason I particularly wish to oppose the suggestion of a "will" is because frankly there's already enough of certain CLs abusing the monetary gains they get.

I'm more in favour of limiting their ability to horde credits and cash for their next character, rather than investing in their own city and it's people... stacking creds and cash for your next character's BGs and gun is a selfish thing for a CL to do with the money other's are spending their time earning and generously donating up for the betterment of the city they're working for.

adding a will feature will only compound this deplorable act.

The only thing I can see being a small but acceptable "will" alternative of sorts, other than the cash you already get passed down to you by the shadowy figure... is maybe first crack at your parent character's grave. before the 24 hours are up? (baring in mind depending on the rank of the dead char and your new start up skills you might not get to GR them successfully in that time)

As for the suicide note. (as repeatedly stated by others) I don't object to the idea, but I see it as a pointless addition tbh. Not only can you just mail whoever you feel you owe an explanation to, you can add the note to your profile, write a back alley thread, put a post in the streets, the ooc or even weave it into a drunken rant in the business districts. I'm not entirely certain how RP suicide notes being coded into the game really benefit the game at all. Again, not objecting to this suggestion, just don't see an advantage to adding it to the game.

... also, are you trying to promote suicide? :p

however, one "will" that would make sense. "I ring it unlikely that a g/f would not make arrangements should the worse occur " as you correctly stated, there would be arrangements made. One thing I've never understood in this game when it comes to crews is the lack of RH automatically taking over as the CL in the event of death. An organisation like the mob wouldn't stop being a unit or a family just because the CL died. the number 2 would take over. just like the vice president would take over the presidents position, or deputy prime minister take over...etc.

So, I suppose one "will" feature that ought to be added is auto promotion to CL in the event of the CL's death for whoever is named by the CL as the successor(probably in the hq management screen)
