Character Association - 10 Credit Prize Started by: ChristianGato on Jul 30, '16 09:10

I'm interested as to if anyone has a genuine (Not obviously fabricated or nonsensical) link between some or all of their characters. I've taken special consideration to link all my characters in one way or another over the months (almost years), without the links being obvious or even something I bring up while playing that character.

I've created an example as below to what I'm talking about, which is my own story, the first three people to give me a nice breakdown of the pride, time and passion they have put into their characters history across multiple characters, I'll review and chose one to pay out ten credits to.

  • Want to see detail on the mentioned characters
  • Links to the actual character profiles
  • How each character links in to one another
  • Minimum of three characters that the story is told over

I'm ultimately looking to give people the chance to tell their untold stories.

I try to stay as anonymous as I can as far as recognised names go (no irc name, no reused names etc), because frankly I don't know anybody and have little to be recognised for, making me ineligible for this prize, but what you've done is really impressive, Christian. But I just wanted to express that you are a rare RP exemplary on this game and deserve all the praise you can get for it.

Report Post Tip

For each of my recent characters I thought of a role and a matching background. That allows me to be consistent when engaging in RP on here.
I never tied them together however, so I'm not eligible for the prize either. With a bit of fantasy I could tie them all together, but that's really because there's one person who I end up working with everytime :)

Although not chosen when I created my last crewleader account, I did assume him to be the son of the CL account before that. This allowed me to continue the Made Man promotion ceremonies I role-played. In my opinion this added even more depth and meaning to the hard-to-obtain rank within my families.

Just a few people challenge themselves / or get challenged to do role-play at all. I doubt there are many who intentionally create a complete story around each of their characters. It would be great to learn how those who do enjoy RP tie there different characters together.

Toby, thanks for your efforts, officially the first entry we have. It's good to see you consider your history in your crew name, association to a family business is also a soft spot for me.

Nganga, I appreciate that, thanks. We're all here for our own reasons, to get what we each want out of the game. For me, it's an interactive story, something that if a person so desired, they could leaf through my previous characters posts and interactions like pages of a book.

Mr Oakheart, your passion for depth has always been apparent. You may not walk the streets with a character swagger or detail each idiosyncrasy of each man, but you do give them a story, a past and an ambition. In past dealings with you, I know you to have an eye for detail, as do I.

Report Post Tip

In my previous visit here on MR, I had a more traditional bloodline. Keats begat MacLeod begat Kates (with minor dabbling characters in between). I then had a character totally out of left field (Crawford), who'd been in Ireland and not related to my main bloodline. Unfortunately, even though Crawford and Kates are 2 of my 4 most recent main characters, respectively,  I am frigging old and this all happened along time ago before eternal profiles were a thing.

It gets a little boring to me going by direct family relationships. It just doesn't rev my engine anymore. I actually strongly prefer when other people are actually playing as family members: I've had friends RP as one character's son, daughter-in-law, and granddaughter (she lived for a long time). This affinity for active family is something we seem to share, Mr. Gato.

It also isn't ideal for my characters to have zero connection at all, however. As you mentioned, it's nice to have those links.

So I decided that moving forward I'd most likely find some middle ground between "It's me, your dad" and "total stranger".

So here's my three.

Kates (unable to link due to age) was the Godmother of New Orleans (... I told you this was a long time ago). Her family was killed in a war, but mentally I had the idea that her granddaughter Rebecca was able to escape and start over somewhere else, continuing the bloodline. Over many generations, that would lead to an orphan whose name was John Keats. Eventually, I had plans to travel to New Orleans and uncover birth certificates and information that would suggest his real last name was MacLeod and he was a descendant of Kates. I wasn't really sure if I'd do another character after Keats, but I knew I didn't want to do a direct bloodline relation. For one thing, Keats had already had one surprise daughter show up. While he certainly sowed his oats as a young man, I didn't want to stretch credibility. I also wanted to have a totally fresh start, with a new city and a radically new character, someone that I'd be challenged to write well. But I also wanted someone with some link to Keats. Unfortunately for my current character, Karina, this meant that I told a story in which Keats made an appearance and killed her father. I liked the idea of Keats indirectly spurring her to a life of crime without necessarily being her father.

I'm not really sure what will happen with this particular character. Depending on how long she lives I may have my next character find/scavenge/etc. some used equipment from her.

We shall see.

Thanks for an interesting topic!

Ah, the Keats line. I had hoped that I would get to peek inside the inner workings of your roles, and the way you play them. Throughout your characters, stretching back to Kates, you made efforts to inspire those walking our streets to see more than just words and grey. Who would have thought hallucinating wildly about mobsters could be so enjoyable.

Karina's entry marks our second entry into the competition, I've got room for one more before judging.

At last, I managed to find the time to share the stories of my previous characters. I totally love the RP aspect of the game, especially since I'm a big Mafia fan. Let me share the few snippets about the characters I had.

Gierstrad - He is an aspiring local thug who managed to get his hands on business and hustling. Booze and women are his thing, though he has inner fears and somehow a bit overwhelmed by the mob life. Eventually, he got the chance to prove himself and joined the Exiles, under the tutelage of Visas. After working hard, Gierstrad was transferred to B613. Unfortunately, due to miscalculation and a deal gone wrong, Gierstrad was whacked down by unknown assailants - the powers that be. (Admin whacked)

https://mafiareturns.com/news/uprofile.archive.php?id=1080822

Vanbrilliance - A renowned butcher who made a name in Corleone, Sicily, Vanbrilliance decided that the life in 'Murica is one hundred times better. Indeed, it was. He found solace in the wacky Vegas crew called Nervous Ninnies and began hustling and enjoying life. He hustled and partied with his old pal, Professor Sceadu. Don Scratchy of the Ninnies also joined their strange encounters with Durdens. When the Vegas takedown occurred, Professor Sceadu and Don Scratchy was killed, and Vanbrilliance barely fled to the arms of Detroit. After explaining to Visas that he once had meat-shipping deals with Gierstrad, he was referred to B613. Thankful, Vanbrilliance enjoyed in his new home, though he felt empty due to his friends' deaths. He also developed a brief love affair with Julia Guenison - his loyal Corrupt Agent. One fine day, Vanbrilli while the Detroit takedown was going on, Vanbrilliance was shot to death.

JulyGuenison - After the bloodbath of Detroit and death of her lover, July Guenison packed her bags and moved to New York. She found her home with a crew known as DabCity. She was very secretive in her deals, making business connections with certain individuals. After gaining a new friend named Edward Kenway, July felt that it's time to open her heart once again. But life bites hard, and Julia Guenison was shot due to another city-wide takedown.

https://mafiareturns.com/news/uprofile.archive.php?id=1248584

FireflyDesire - After learning that her mother, Julia Guenison, was killed in America, Firefly Desire decided that it's time to make a name for herself. She was trained secretly by her mother in the arts of espionage, multi-cultural connections, and communication. Firefly Desire found a home with the Scousebusters and even managed to run the crew's HQ bar. Later on, after another conflict which caused her to lose a home, Firefly linked arms with a crew known as La Mano Del Diavolo. There, she formed strong ties with Mouse-Potato and Camilo. It was bliss - money and booze flowed everywhere. But, all good things must come to an end. In one cold night, Firefly was shot by persons of persons' unknown, as a result of another cycle of conflicts.

https://mafiareturns.com/news/uprofile.php?id=1322285

CyborgVisas - Perhaps one of the eccentric personalities in Cosa Nostra, Cyborg Visas is not 100% human. Rather, she is the result of a hidden experiment conducted by Firefly Desire and some of her 'peers.' Cyborg Visas' existence is meant to pay homage to the late Godmother Visas, yet she's still unfinished. As she awakened, Cyborg Visas is determined to learn more about her world and, perhaps, reach the pinnacle of success. Currently, she's working for Don Chris Vaughn, the astute leader of the Electric Company.

Third entry! Thanks for taking the time to share, I'll review them all and get back to you soon on the winner.

For the volume of imagination and detail you've poured into your characters, CyborgVisas, I couldn't give it to anyone else. I'm thankful for being given the opportunity to look into the thought process some of you have maintained across characters and appreciate the time taken by the three of you to give us this insight. I hope if nothing else, this competition inspires us all to add a little depth to our characters, even if it doesn't get the chance to be seen in public.

Success! You have transferred 10.00 credits to CyborgVisas. The note "Winnings" was included.
