The Firms Started by: Jay-C on Dec 14, '07 14:58
Jay steps up to the street corner, pulling along a soap box by his side, he places it down, and stands upon it, hoping everybody can see him

"Now, can everybody hear and see me OK?" After hearing a few mutters Jay assumes so and proceeds "It's been a few days since I last came to these streets, and well, I thought I should come along and speak with you all. We have had a JailBreaking firm start up, and a Stock Market set up. Both great ideas to get this world thriving, I love to see the involvement from you guys as well, it's good to know some people share my views."

"The thing I have come to discuss is infact these new 'Firms' so to speak, call them what you want, but I'll refer to them as 'firms' from now on. I ask you this, do you like these firms seeting up like me, or do you think they are a waste of time, just waiting for failure"

"I think this involves a detailed answer, so please think carefully before answering, this trhead is not meant to insult any of the owners of the firms as I have stated, I love the involvement, so I will tell you my answer now"

Jay wipes his forehead, and wraps his long coat around him, it was a cold evening, but he was getting warmer as more people were gathering around to listne to him answer

"Well, as I said, it requires a detailed answer, but on the whole I think they are a very good idea. On one side, they can succeed and prosper very quickly, and help develop the community a great deal, but having said that, they can also fail very easily too, if not under the right management and organization, failure is something that arrives very quickly, the surrent firms that are set up, that I referred to earlier, the JailBreaking firm seems a very positive idea, and there's plenty of money that people are just waiting to spend to get theirselves up their with the best, it has the market, and from the conversations I've had with the owners, it has the management, I can expect a good future for The Phoenix Corporation.

As for the Stock Market, I'm not too good with numbers myself, so I wouldn't really understand how to make a profit from them, but again, it's a way to make or loose money, and we know how many gamblers we have out there, Stock Market is a gamble, a make or break situation and risk, and some people love the excitement of that, and will puit most of their money into it. Again, a good idea, with a wide-range market, good things await the MRSE"

Jay takes a deep breath, and a swig from his flask, replacing it back into his inside pocket

"So, what do you guys think about the 'firms'? Any answer is welcome, if you don't like them, don't feel like you can't say, it's your opinion, opinion's are always welcome. Thank you"
Report Post Tip
if you don't like them, don't feel like you can't say

To the General Public: As far as the BPBF is concerned, you can disregard that statement. Do feel you can't say if you don't like or approve of our brokerage firm because frankly, I care not for the naysayers.

This feels slightly ridiculous saying this in a premptive context, but my father, myself and mostly Ms. Phoenix have not worked on this venture for people to come forth and say that they simply don't like it.

If you want to make some constructive criticism, please feel free to mail myself or Ms. Phoenix, but if you're just coming here to naysay, then your comments are not welcome here, not by me; especially when I've not requested opinions, good or otherwise.

I'm rather afraid I'm coming across as not wanting to hear people's negative comments, but being fine with the positive; but that isn't the case.

To Jay-C: I'm glad there's some street activity gcoming from you, but I'll be honest; just because you say you don't mean to insult someone, it doesn't necessarily mean you won't. I'm fairly disappointed that you feel you can tell the masses that they can pass judgement on our Firm's hard work without even so much as a cursory mail in our direction.
Report Post Tip
"That's not what I am trying to say. Is it not better to know what people think about your firm, rather than them keeping it inside, and you never knowing what people really think?

"I would feel more comfortable coming to the streets and teeling the trust, than in a Personnal meeting with you, that way, some people may have the same views, and we can easily have a debate on our hands.

"Just what I think though, you can of course disagree, it is supposed to be a debate after all"
Report Post Tip
Could be just me, but if I had a negative opinion about the Firms mentioned, or if I had any questions regarding their fiscal stability and projected longevity, I would have gone to the public speech and press conference of the respective firms to voice my opinions and get the fact straight from the entrepreneurs themselves, rather than rant to a completely unaffiliated third party with no answers to offer.
Report Post Tip
"The streets is open to everybody, saying your opinions here would not go unnoticed by the firm owners or management, you have already joined this debate, so you would have answers for the people who disagree with your firm, if there are any.

When people mention flaws in your firm, if they do for that matter, that will help the firm to grow, the firm will be able to correct these flaws, and become better."
Report Post Tip
So if these streets are open to everyone, why can't these opinions be best expressed to the people who previously asked for them? Why do they need to come to you to express them?
Report Post Tip
I think what Nikki was trying to point out is that with both firms having already generated their own interest in the streets, (both having their own thread) it would be more appropriate to direct and opions, critiques and criticisms there rather than here.
Report Post Tip
"They could very well choose to go to your own street debates, and voice their opinions their. The fact that I have declared this debate open to all comments, apart from those that are just set out to knock you down, I think, would make them feel more comfortable. And I never said that they could'ne supply good comments about the firms. In my answer to my own question I said that both firms have nice looking futures ahead of them."
Report Post Tip
MRSE is a great idea and i cant wait to see the community really embrace it and give these two satisfaction in what they are doing to help make this world better

P.S. BUY STOCK IN DEAD HEAD BAR AND VISIT IT!!!!
Report Post Tip
"Thankyou Steven, for your positive words on the Stock Exchange, as I said, I haven't quite grasped it, but still think it's a good idea. Once again I wish you the best of luck with it.

"Anybody else have an opinion?"
Report Post Tip
*Slevin scratches his head, and raises an eyebrow.*

"I must say, I do think this is a little bit of a pointless exercise, being that if people weren't happy with a service, they just wouldn't use it... But I have to say, I'm pretty happy with firms like these popping up. It shows people are using a little imagination, and showing initiative, both encouraging signs. I'd be happy to see more of these popping up from time to time, will keep things interesting."
Report Post Tip
But, as has already been pointed out prior to this, if people voice their complaints (in a sensible manner, mind you) the creators (is that the correct word?) will be able take them and use them to make their respective firms better. Why just shut out a voice when it could be someone offering seriously good advice?

And to Octavion, I think this thread should be use more to voice opinions on the firms as a whole, rather than the individual firms. If someone has something negative to say about a specific firm, I think it should be posted in the appropriate thread. However, if someone wants to give their 2 cents on firms in general, I think this is a fine place to do it, and I'd rather it be here than be unsure of what thread to go to if I wanted more broad opinions.

Of course, maybe Jay-C had the complete opposite intent when he made this thread. =/

Personally, I'm indifferent towards firms.
Report Post Tip
I think giving opinions on the Firms in general is ill advised and irrelevent really, seeing as the two stated firms are vastly different in the services they offer and provide.

It's Octavius by the way.
Report Post Tip
"Maybe some people will have something to say on firms in general as that is what this debate is abuot, the firms in general, not specific firms, just because i used the two current firms as examples in my answer, doesn't mean everybody else does.

"And yes Captain, that's what this debate was for, thankyou for understanding, your about the only on"
Report Post Tip
*Slevin scratches his head, slightly confused at the strange words coming out of people's mouths over and over.*

"Posts? Threads? I have no idea what you are talking about. I thought we were having a conversation in the street?"
Report Post Tip
To revert on what I said only minutes ago:

I think giving opinions on the Firms in general is ill advised and irrelevent really...

How many different firms could you invisage? I could think of quite a lot. Gambling, loans, jailbreaking, the stock exchange, tattoo parlours; those are just a few right off the top of my head. To try to generalise and make sweeping comments about 'firms' is nigh on impossible, given the diverse range of subjects the word 'firm' could be applied to. You'll see how vague that seems, right? You see how trying to comment on something so vague is inefficient at best, right?

But all of what I've just said be construed as irrelavent given how I intepreted your original speech Jay-C, where I feel I made a few reasonable assumptions and deduced that you were not infact talking about 'firms' in general.

The first thing that contribued to my assumption was quite early on when you mentioned "these new 'firms'". Your use of the adjective "new" was the first thing that removed generalisation, and the use of that demonstrative pronoun "these" further implied you were talking about a specific, isolated firm, or firms, rather than firms as a whole. I'll stop there lest this spiral into a grammar lesson, I for one don't want that to happen; we could be here all damn night.

Nevermind implying though, you directly mentioned the two 'firms', and immediately after you'd finished talking about them, you asked for opinions. Therefore, you could reasonably assume most people would come to the conclusion you were talking about two 'firms' in particular, namely The Brokers and the Jailbreaking service, rather than 'firms' in general.

Jay holds his hand up, and begins to speak

"Slevin, I think these 'Thread' they refer to are in fact 'topics' well, that's what I have interpreted them as, and that's what I've been thinking these past day. Maybe it's so new word used by the youth of today, who knows.

"Octavius, sorry for the confusion in what this debate was about, if there was any insult cause to any firm I do apologise, and would now like to rephrase the question at hand...

"What do you think about firms, in general ? Do you think they are a waste of time, or are you the other side, that vaules people putting the effort in to start these firms to try to better our community? I stand by the answer I made earlier. Thank you."
Report Post Tip
Hey presto, confusion resolved!

Firms in general. I'd say it very much depends on a variety of factors, among the most important being the way it's run, the motive for existance and the demand for such a service.

The latter is a supreme factor for me, and can't be underestimated, the leadership of a firm could be shoddy, and the execution of it's services poor; but if there is a demand, it will thrive. Equally, there may be superb leadership with excellent execution, but ultimately the venture is a failure due to lack or public support.

Firms in general, I can't really pass judgement; as I've said previously, I feel it too vague a topic to try and analyse as one body, but to reiterate, I will say this. The success of any given venture depends heavily on the support and interest of the public.
Report Post Tip
"I agree on that aspect. The success of a so called firm is going to be entirely dependant on the public support. If it's not getting custom, then it will not thrive, simple as that."
Report Post Tip
"Thank you for your input and interest in this debate Octavius, it's much appreciated."

Jay smiles

"Glad we sorted the confusion out, maybe now some other people can voice their opinions."
