| Kate's Office for The Logan Review | Started by: KateLogan on Oct 24, '16 03:22 |

Kate Logan did not want an office. In fact, she was slightly horrified by the whole idea. She'd been on the road for the last few years of her life and, even though Detroit was growing on her and she was actually starting to think of it as home, she had no intention of being trapped at a desk. But after starting The Logan Review, it seemed to be a necessary evil. She'd sweet-talked her way into "borrowing" someone else's printing equipment for the first issue- but after people actually paid attention to it, the legitimate paper wouldn't let it happen again. So she needed her own spot. A small sign containing the name of the paper hung above the entrance. The printing press was on the first floor, manned by a couple German brothers who barely spoke English. She'd hired Karl and Fritz away from the Detroit Free Press by promising them they could make the same money and drink on the job. They were tall, burly men in their late thirties and functioned as security on non-printing days. Her office was on the second floor. It was a relatively small building, and it was immediately clear that the second floor was only a fraction of the space of the first There was a small desk for a receptionist or secretary set in an alcove immediately in front of the entrance when you walked upstairs and opened the door; next to the desk was a wooden office door. Kate's office was modest and covered in stacks of papers, at least for the moment. Her desk was simple and the wood was slightly scuffed; her chair was leather, as were the two chairs that faced the desk on the opposite side. There was a window behind her, showing a partial image of the Detroit skyline. There was also a comfortable couch off to the left side that folded out into a bed, and filing cabinets filled the opposite wall. A door near the couch led to a bathroom with a toilet and a bathtub. Karl and Fritz assumed she just worked late, but they'd never been upstairs and were not aware she was living in her office. Kate smiled as she put read over the reviews of the first edition. If she was going to keep this going, it was time for her to get to work. |

5 minutes after the events on the street below... (really you should learn to keep up, here's a url if you haven't been following the dialog...) Walter finished the last of the stairs onto the second floor and the office of KateLogan. He turned to face Bruno Stracchi and tutted as he found the larger man only rounding the corner on to the last flight of stairs. Probably too much cannoli, or not enough sex, or possibly even anal anxiety as he therapist would say. That reminded him, he had an appointment with Dr. Weiss this evening, perhaps he would finally make a breakthrough on his obsessive spooning compulsion, god knows he was paying the man enough. Finally Bruno reached the top of the stairs and Walter knocked the door and waited for Ms Logan to respond. "Even with all that Detroit has to offer, it doesn't hurt to have the media in ones pocket also Bruno. You don't mind if I call you Bruno do you, I have a feeling that we are going to be good friends." Hearing Kate call from inside her office, Walter opened the door and ushered Bruno inside, perhaps a tad more forcefully than was required, considering all the bluster and self importance of the Jersey man appeared to be long gone. "Bruno Stracchi from Jersey Ms Logan." |

Kate smiled as she looked up from the chair behind her desk. She closed the folder in front of her before rising to shake Bruno Stracchi's hand. "Mr. Stracchi, a pleasure. I trust that Mr. Blunt here has taken care of you. Have a seat and we'll begin shortly." Kate led Walter and Harry outside her office door as she, slightly confused, looked around for Stracchi's bodyguards. Not seeing them anywhere, she shrugged and turned her attention to Walter. "Nice work, Walter. I've got to get in there and hammer out a deal, but find me later and we'll talk." |

"Certainly my dear, I hope it all goes well. I think you may find him really receptive to your ideas, Harry and I really sold Detroit to him." Walter headed off down the stairs back to the SSK. He had promised to look after the bodyguards, and besides, Harry had the Commanding officer. "I wonder if I have time for those hookers, coke and Cognac before the therapist. Perhaps Giselle is free?" |

The door closed on the windy Detroit street and Gato stood upright. He removed his hat and began to climb the stairs to the second floor. Upon entering, he silently greeted the men busying themselves around the office and folded his coat over one arm. He recognised a young man he knew to be Walter Blunt attending to the guest Kate was entertaining. She had come a long way from the antisocial, rough around the edges sprite he had picked up in the early days of their Detroit venture. Christian was proud, and by the smile plastered across his face, he wasn't afraid to show it. He placed the warn pastries down on her reception desk under the alcove and took his leave. |

Kate stumbled in later that morning, still recovering from the incident with the window. She smiled, though, as she collapsed into her chair and saw the pastries in front of her. Fritz had mentioned that he'd seen ChristianGato stop by earlier, which was lucky. Otherwise, she'd have to try to figure out which of her many admirers had left the gift. Biting into one the pastries, she leaned back, closed her eyes, and savored the experience. She'd let herself have one of these. No, two. Then it was back to work. |

Dusty had so many offers from Kate to visit Detroit that she finally hopped on the plane once she had a spare minute. Landing in Detroit she took some time to find a place to leave her luggage and change her clothing. Once satisfied that the knee length black skirt matched with the heels she was wearing, she tossed on the green blouse that matched her eyes and headed to Kate's office. Sliding through the doors looking around for Kate. Not seeing her just yet she headed towards the nearest person. "Hello I am looking for Kate. I noticed that she doesn't appear to be here. I'll wait in a chair over there." She pointed in the direction of a chair that was out of the way. "You can let her know that Dusty has finally managed to make it Detroit and would certainly love to go get those drinks once she has a spare moment." Turning around she headed towards the chair and made herself comfortable. |

Kate had heard someone waiting for her outside her office, but when pressed for details Karl said "It's a woman". Cursing Karl's lack of interest in anything unrelated to printing equipment or alcohol, Kate stalked up the stairs with her hand on her revolver, although she left it in its holster for now. Turning the corner, her scowl vanished. "Dusty! Finally taking me up on my offer of buying you a drink?" |

Dusty couldn't help but to chuckle as she turned her attention to Kate's voice. "I promised I would make it for those drinks. Its about time we get one don't you think?" Standing up to stretch her legs out a little. "Unless you are too busy with all the writing." |

Kate looks at the pile of papers on her desk, then back at Dusty. Then the pile. Then Dusty again. "Screw it. What's a deadline, anyways? Did you have somewhere in mind? It's your pick. Although if you don't have any preference, Walter_Blunt, an associate of mine, just opened up a bar and lounge." |

"I've never been to anywhere in Detroit so if you think the bar and lounge is a great place we should go." Dusty grabs her purse and walks towards Kate. "Lead the way." |

Jennie pushed open the door to the building and looked around, calling out her voice echoed in the room. "Kate, you here?" as she walked further into the office. Jennie was hurting a bit for money, and figured the best place to get either a loan or a job was from her boss. She raised her eyebrows wondering where on earth Kate had gotten to, before plopping down in a chair and slouching down low, settling in to wait for as long as she needed to for her crew leader to magically appear to talk to her. |

Kate walked into the building and was immediately on her guard. Karl had his head tilted, warning her there was someone in her office. She moved up the stairs cautiously with her hand on the gun hanging at her side. She pushed open the door of the office and remained outside, calling in. "Someone here?" |

Jennie watched the shadow on on the ground and realized KateLogan was staying safely outside of the office. She pushed herself to her feet and dug around in her purse to pull out the newspaper from last week that she had only just gotten around to reading last night. She moved over to the desk and quickly folded it into a paper airplane and then turned and threw it through the open doorway. "Hey, Ms. Logan." She said with a grin, "I saw your ad in the paper." she told the woman, waiting for her to realize there was no threat and she could actually come in and talk to her face to face. She cocked her hip and leaned against the desk, looking at the nails on her hand. Noticing one was split, she started peeling the extra nail off before putting her finger to her mouth and starting to bite. |

Kate walked in slowly, but relaxed after hearing the voice of Jennie . She'd had a couple small interactions with the younger woman, mostly vaguely business related- although she was still a little unsure of what, precisely, Jennie did. Kate tilted her head to the side and raised her hands apologetically for the way she'd entered. "Can't be too careful, right? Have a seat. Let's talk." |

Jennie resisted the urge to snort, instead settling for a smile and standing up. "Sorry to burst in on you without warning." she told the woman as she took a seat. Crossing a leg over the other she sat back in the chair and looked around the office. "I like the decorations." she said as way of casual small talk while she waited for KateLogan to take a seat. |

Kate sighed a little and smirked. I'm not really the decorative type, perhaps. So why do you think you'd be a good personal assistant for me, Jennie? I know you've popped up making a few deals with me before; I didn't expect you to work with me so directly. What changed? |

She looked at the woman sitting at her desk, and grinned. "I don't really like being hungry." she told her before leaning forward slightly. "I'm not the best criminal out there, some might argue that Im a bit to polite and not ruthless enough to cut it in the big bad world." she shook her head, "But I am one organized anal retentive know it all." she nodded her head, "Basically, I can't run drugs or rob banks, not effectively enough to keep up with my rent and keep food on the table." she paused for a second and pushed her hair out of her face, "But I can help run your life. Manage appointments, keep track of your correspondence, make sure the people who manage to make it to your office aren't just going to be a huge waste of time to you." she looked down at her hands, "Plus, you're a busy woman which means if I take the job, I would be a busy woman. And being busy means I'm happy." |
