Jennie's Corner Started by: Jennie on Nov 18, '16 07:20

After being buried under what felt like endless paperwork and correspondence, Jennie finally stood up from her desk and threw her hands in the air, "I need a break!" she shouted to the empty office. Kate was at a meeting, so she was alone. She grabbed her purse and coat and headed out the door, locking it behind her. She headed down the street, intending to get something to eat and also a drink or four, when she saw a for rent sign on an old bar. Her interest piqued she peered in the window, practically pressing her face against the glass. It wasn't a large place, few tables, rather small bar, only enough seating for five. But to the side was a beautiful pool table. "I want it." she thought to herself as she took down the number on the sign, intending to call the owner as soon as she got back from drinking her lunch.

At the end of the day the keys had been dropped off, so she headed over to her newest place of business. As arranged, everything had been wiped down. The floors were made of hardwood, scuffed and scratched from normal wear and tear. The bar was made of wood as well, with two large columns bracketing the ends of it. The back wall was wooden shelves, covered in glasses and bottles. Jennie moved behind the bar and poured herself a drink, wondering how long it would take before someone from Detroit showed up to keep her company.

Billie was on her way home from the new Banya downtown when she passed the old bar on the corner. And pass it she did; walked right by it at first, just like every other day. But something seemed... off. Not one to ignore suspicion after the last couple of days, Billie back tracked across the front of the store - literally walking backwards to get another look at the place. Something was different, but she couldn't quite put her finger on it. Shaking her head, she silently blamed it on her long day at Kate's and the Tower. But just as she began to walk, movement caught here eye - inside the bar. Blinking for a moment she giggled as it finally dawned on her. The damned thing was open

As long as she'd lived here there'd been a 'for rent' sign on the door. And now some poor sot finally took it up. Billie laughed out loud. Another fucking bar. Oh well, at least it was good to see things opening up in the city; meant our people were doing well. Deciding that it was important to support the locals, regardless of business type, Billie pranced through the door in typical showgirl grandeur,  "Helloooo~" ((think black mrs. doubtfire))

She was halfway through before she recognized the familiar face at the bar. "Oh. Hello." she said, immediately dropping the pizzazz. "The fuck are you doing with bar, love? Feeling a little masochistic? I thought you had ple-he-henty on your hands just working for Kate." Billie smiled. "Decide you need to own a whole damned bar just catch some R&R?" Billie giggled, smiling at Jennie sweetly.

Greg was stumbling the streets of DT as he noticed a bright new sign reading "OPEN" in bold neon lights. Looking above the sign, he read the words "Jennie's Corner" and he smiled, knowing he had found the place. He walked through the door and looked the place over once before heading right up to the bar and taking a seat. "How's business so far Jennie?" He asks. "Can I get a jack and coke with a little ice?" He nodded to Billie at the other end of the bar and realized he was with friends now. "How's it going Billie?" He asked politely,  looking around for an ashtray.

Billie hiked herself up on top of the stool so that she could reach behind the bar for an ashtray, saving Jennie the time and hassle. Sliding it down the bar, she smiled, "Going well, Mr. Scarpa. S'good to see you out and about and socializing. How're the streets treating you?"

"Thanks" he nods. Taking a cigar from his jacket, he strikes a match on the table and lights it. "Well, they don't seem as scary as I'd thought they'd be. But I'm still just getting out." He chuckled a bit and took a drag of his cigar as he waited for his drink.

"Jenny, put Mr. Scarpa's drinks on my tab for the night," she said, sliding her bar stool a little closer. "Mind if I give you the fifth degree?" she smiled and winked at him. "We can make a drinking game of it, if you like."

She pushed her hair back out of her face and grinned when Billie_Faegan walked in. She was about to open her mouth when the phone rang, so holding up a finger she walked over to where the blasted device had been anchored to the wall and picked it up. Balancing it between her head and shoulder she said, "Hello, Jennie's Corner" before wincing when her Boss, KateLogan started asking her where she was. "look, look," she said as she reached for a bottle of anything near by, "I asked for the day off, remember?" She told the woman as she pulled the top off the bottle. "You said yes." she pointed out before tilting it to her mouth and chugging a few mouthfuls. "Well maybe its because Ms. Kompressor was nearby." she said boldly, feeling the liquor warm her stomach. She resisted the urge to roll her eyes and then gave a little wave when Greg_Scarpa showed up. She pointed to the phone and then shrugged, indicating she didn't know how long she'd be occupied for. When Billie reached over to get the ashtray for the man, she was supremely grateful and gave the woman a broad grin and a thumbs up.

"Kate, look, Fine, I'll shut up about that. Jeesh." she said before looking longingly at the bottle still in her hand. "Right, well I'll stop by the office after I close up here and make sure everything is in order for tomorrow, alright?" she told her boss. "And if you urgently need something, you can always swing by here and I can have a look at it for you." She nodded her head as Kate spoke and then laughed, "Nothing, nothing," She said, "Just... laughing at myself mostly." she glanced back at the two sitting at the bar. "But I really need to run, I have customers who are thirsty, and as resourceful as Billie and Greg may be, I don't think they feel comfortable enough here to just serve themselves." she told her friend. "So I will talk to you later, you have a good night." she said before hanging up the phone and taking another swig from the bottle. Setting it back where it came from she turned around and grinned at the two sitting there.

"Right, my apologies for my distraction - but you know what its like when work calls." she shook her head with a laugh, "Let me get those drinks, and anything else you need." she told them. She got the jack and coke for Greg and set it down in front of him, "I'm sorry Billie, I completely missed what sort of drink you wanted." she admitted to the woman.

Billie smiled over the counter. "I didn't say, actually. Just surprise me." She turned to Greg, giving him a calculating once over. "Actually, bring the bottle, and two shot glasses." She tapped the bar with cigarette hand all mafiosa-esque. It was kind of cute, actually. "So, whatdaya say, big boy?" she smiled cockily at Greg, awaiting his answer. "You got the balls to drink a little thing like me under the table? I'll even let you take pictures. Just gotta answer some personal questions first." she winked playfully.

Greg looks to the woman sitting next to him and ponders her challenge before reaching behind the counter and grabbing a bottle of 1881. "Well honey, if we are gonna do this, we're gonna do this right!" He pours her a shot and smiles, tipping the bottle to his lips and taking 2-3 big gulps before placing the bottle back on the counter and grabbing the drink Jennie had made him.

"Thanks doll. I appreciate it." He chugs the drink and sits the glass next to the half empty bottle. "So, what made ya want a bar Jennie?" he asked a little nonchalantly, just trying to make a little small talk in the rather quiet bar.

Report Post Tip

Billie took the shot with a sly smile, sliding the shot glass over next to the bottle. "Hoo!" She coughed just a little, sounding like a barn owl with a cold. That was some good shit. "So..." she cleared her throat, still adjusting to the liquor. "One question a piece per shot?" She asked, @glancing back and forth between the other two, hoping to pull Jennie in on their little game.

Report Post Tip

Greg nodded in agreement to her little game and waited for her to ask her question.

Report Post Tip

"Worst thing you've ever done?" Wow. She cut right to the chase there, didn't she?

Report Post Tip

Hmm, be thinks... "that's a very hard questionot to answer... I'd have to say that the worst thing I've ever done is vandalize a grave." he pours a shot and knocks it back. "Why did you want to be a miafosa?"

Report Post Tip

Billie smirked and gave an appreciative nod. She could appreciate how desecration would fall into the 'worst ever' category. That shit was sacred. She wrinkled her nose a little at her question, "Honestly? I didn't." she chuckled a little, kind of sarcastically. "Started doing backstage deals in Harlem. Just to stay afloat, y'know. Just me, myself, and I.  When I started making bank, a couple of the crews there made me an offer I had to refuse. So I ran. Was gonna run all the way to the West Coast, but Kate's boys made me a better offer, so here I am. "

She nodded toward the bottle with a raised brow. They'd need another shot if he wanted to continue. Turning toward the bar she called over, "Jennie! You gettin in on this or what?"

Report Post Tip

Jennie had been washing glasses and organizing things off to the side while she sorta listened in on the conversation, but for the most part she just kept to herself. When her name was called she perked up and looked over at Billie, "Sorry, Miss, did you need something?" She asked setting the glass she had been drying down. Billie repeated her offer and Jennie looked around and then shrugged, "Sure, why not." she said before getting her own glass and pouring a healthy shot. "So, what is the game?" She asked them.

Report Post Tip

Kate, already smirking at Jennie, walked through the door.

"So am I allowed in here? Or is this supposed to be your safe haven from me?"

Sliding onto a barstool, she nodded a greeting at Greg_Scarpa and Billie_Faegan.

Report Post Tip

Jennie blinked a few times before grabbing the bottle, filling her glass and tossing the liquid back. With a gasp she managed to say, "Nah Boss, you know you're welcome here." before setting the glass down and blinking a few times to get rid of the extra water in her eyes from the burning of the alcohol. "Jeesh Billie, what did you grab? Jet Fuel?" she asked the woman before peering at the bottle.

"So KateLogan ," Jennie said to her friend as she walked over to the barstool she was sat at, "What can I get you?"

Report Post Tip

Kate leaned forward on her elbows and scanned behind the bar before answering Jennie.

"Something soft. Beer."

Report Post Tip

Billie chuckled softly at Jennie and KateLogan"Why don't you join us boss? Mr. Scarpa here and I were just starting a drinking competition. One shot per scandalous question." She grinned at Jennie, "You secre-tender here already agree to jump in. "

Report Post Tip

Kate waved off Jennie.

"Nevermind the beer. Guess we're doing shots. Although if we're doing a shot per scandal, y'all might die of alcohol poisoning keeping up with me."
