Opening Note from the Editor

Welcome to Issue Seven of The Logan Review!

Based on comments from our last edition, we're going to keep this new format to try to improve readability. Thanks to Kerouac for prompting us to think outside the box (heh).

Thanks once again to our regular readers: your public support in the streets keeps this paper going. (Not to mention the donations of cash and alcohol.)

We hope to add something a bit new next time, but for now - enjoy Issue Seven!

- Kate

PS - In six weeks no one submitted a business to be reviewed, so we're just going to start showing up places now. Be prepared.

Also, no Ask Kate this week since there weren't any questions!

Lead Story: Chicago Greets New Godfather-Chairman Kurgan, CL SisterMaryJane

In our top story, the Windy City has a new Godfather-Chairman, as Kurgan has ascended into the top spot in The Loop. He turned his old headquarters over to his former RHM, SisterMaryJane.

Well wishers so far include:

Slash: "Congratulations on this achievement, I couldn't be more pleased for you!"

Daniella: "Congratulations to you both! This was a long time coming now and rightfully deserved for the both of you."

Veronia:  "So happy for you sir and i hope to see a many of great things to come!"

BobbyMunson:  "Congratulations my friend, I knew you could do it!"

StripheGotti: "Congratulations to the both of you and to the expansion of the city."

MikhailKomarov: "Congrats on your fine achievement Godfather Kurgan. And congrats on your new appointment, SisterMary. I am truly happy to see the windy city flourish again."

BCP: "We all have been waiting for this for awhile and congrats. I am sure Chitown will do even greater things with you in charge."

Bonkers: "Congratulazioni Padrino, this has been a long time coming - but I'm sure that all of Chicago will agree that it has been worth the wait."

SisterMaryJane has open a new "Home for Wayward Souls" as she takes on a bold suit for herself.

Spotlight of the Week: Where is the Line?

Space-Pole asks an interesting question as he tries to identify the line between respect and disrespect. This is an ongoing discussion, so we'll refrain from covering it immediately. We might even try to define it ourselves, if the editorial staff feels ambitious. But for now, why not throw in your two cents HERE

Crewleaders Meet: What the Fuck is even a Tim Tam?

Just like I said last time, these meeting updates have the potential to really influence things, so I'd encourage everyone to read the summary by Space-Pole HERE

But if you don't have time to read the summary, here's a summary of the summary- one line per item.

- Some people think limiting HQs to 30 would be great. Others disagreed. Without universal agreement, this is unlikely to happen.

- The Pass the Baton Competition is now in the hands of the gods, as every city had pledged to participate. Hopefully an update soon!

- FitzChivalry is launching a 1 million dollar buy in Poker Tournament. 1 entrant per family- winner take all. Date to be announced.

- Each city/district is responsible for their own MIA rules, so make sure you check- there's no universal forgotten MIA policy.

- How do we get more people to come to our shores? This discussion is ongoing.

- Are people afraid to speak in the streets? Some say no, some say yes. Crewleaders encourage respectful free speech.

- Reward people coming to the streets (see the Rundown at the end of the paper) and there are currently no free/open districts.

- Durdens?! Durdens!

- CLs will now explore some issues in a back alley before trying to decide on an issue in a meeting.

There were varied responses to this meeting summary.

MacKayla raised the question of what a leader's response would be if they felt disrespected. She also questioned whether providing financial incentives were enough if people would "get stomped on", to borrow her phrase directly.

FitzChivalry was ultimately critical of many of her assertions, but addressed MacKayla's questions.

BobbyMunson seemed frustrated by MacKayla, opening by saying

"Mackayla so not only do you want to be able to say whatever the hell you please. You would also like to not have anyone disagree with what you say? Do you think about the words you say before you say them, ever?"

MikhailKomarov questioned one of MacKayla's points, which she then stated was misunderstood. Slash then chimed in to say "its easy to misunderstand the point I think when there isn't anything to back it up", noting the vagaries of the presented hypothetical situation.

SisterMaryJane then provided a lengthy response, with an excerpt here:

Now, onto more important things. The topic of "bloodline hatred and venom" shown toward some speakers. It's really quite simple. You are more than welcome to share an opinion or idea with the leadership of the cities in public as long as it is done in a manner that is respectful. This is something that should be easy to figure out. If you can't say it to your own boss, mother, or grandmother then you should probably NOT say it about or to a leader in public. It's common sense really.

You don't have to kiss our collective asses. You don't have to agree with us. However, you can't sit there and insult the leadership of the cities in a manner that would be defined as "excessively disrespectful". Think before speaking. When emotionally charged take time to calm down and think about what you are going to say. Hell, run it past a member of the upper structure in your family if you are unsure if it should be shared publicly. You can't call a Godfather a sheep fellatio giving hornbag who couldn't lead himself out of a wet paper bag and NOT expect a bit of backlash.

At this point, MacKayla exited the conversation, stating "All I was asking for was a bit of clarification. Thank you to those that tried to provide me with some. I am sorry to those that took offense. Have a good day." She later briefly returned to clarify that "if people assume that I meant people were killed for what they said, that is incorrect."

Explosion, now deceased, then entered the discussion with a passionate response, ending with

"A vast majority of CL's feel like they deserve something from people outside there city and honestly its bullshit, if you feel like you are entitled to respect show the cities why. If that is to much, you should have reconsidered allowing yourself to get auth,  or setting up on your own terms. "

This prompted some questioning by Daniella and @BrotherHec- but the conversation deteriorated quickly.

Explosion died later that night, but before everyone jumps on some sort of bandwagon about being killed for disrespect and fear in the streets, it should be noted that he'd left his crew at that point and was wandering around as an unsponsored Wise Guy.

Space-Pole Asks Community for Ideas To Improve

Prior to the recent crewleader meeting, Space-Pole appeared in the streets to solicit ideas from people to bring up.

Many people initially questioned this and considered it more appropriate to bring their ideas directly to their leaders.

FitzChivalry appeared, stating:

Space has come out here and opened the door for any suggestions people may have with regards to bringing this world forward. Again, it surprises me that people are reluctant to come out here and speak up, or maybe everyone is happy with the way things are?

JaryllJicchai gave the first legitimate response to the question, suggesting rewards for public contributions and mentioning our own publication (But Jaryll, didn't you see that we gave out four million in prizes last week for VIPs and our Street MVP of the week?!). This was later adopted in the CL meeting. He also mentioned a desire to open up opportunities for people to start up their own crews.

Bonkers had a great reply to those who questioned why this topic was needed, saying:

there is nothing worse than "group think"/ collective reasoning, call it what you will. The reality is that if those most fortunate keep themselves couped up in ivory towers and only associate with others in similarly fortunate positions then nothing will ever change.

Santiago seemed to disagree with the gist of the topic and walked away from what he considered a threat-  which Slash appeared to dispel.

Kurgan and Lancelot then contributed their opinion to clarify that it wasn't just Las Vegas that supported this idea.

King of the Ring Update

KateLogan, BrotherHec, and Chong have all advanced to the second round, which was covered in our previous issue.

Since that time, we've had two more fights.

In a fast first round knock out CamillaBalistreri sent Jezebel- home from the tournament.

Later, Stoner_Tony followed in the fighting footsteps of his father. He fought extremely well and it looked like he was in the lead, but he was knocked out by a vicious knee to the face by Saul "The Warrior" Hudson.

Before sure to check in next week as the first round wraps up!

Lacey turns closed the latest copy of The Logan Review.

"Stupendous effort and issue as usual, Ms. KateLogan."

Lacey pulls out a wad of cash and purchases 40 copies to deliver to The Regime HQ.

BCP walks down the street. It was chilly in Vegas this morning, but he knew his local paperboy should be about. Spotting him, he signals him over and lits a cig.

The boy runs over excitedly and starts talking like usual.

Mister Mister! Look its in! Its here. I saved one just for you sir, I knew you would want one.

BCP nods and hands the boy a dollar and mutter "keep the rest kid. Thanks". The kid pockets the dollar and spots his next customer and wanders off. BCP chuckled to himself knowing the kid had a good hustle but he was a good kid. Heading back to the HQ, he spots a chair by the fire and takes a seat to enjoy his morning read.

She rounds up the HQ morning briefing ensuring several lingering glares land in the direction of her RH for being late again she invites all to grab a coffee and have 30 minutes down time before starting the days jobs and deals that required their attention. She hands out the papers randomly keeping one for herself as she heads to the comfy armchair in the corner of the HQ, kicking her heels off and curling her feet up on the chair she takes her time digesting the papers contents and relaxing.

She made a mental note to speak to Kate the next time she saw her to congratulate her once again on another fine edition of the Logan Review. She looked around the HQ and smiled to see others engrossed in reading paper too, she could of simply been hearing things but could of sworn she heard a whisper somewhere about the number seven and something about she ain't ever afraid to tell it like it is...

Sweet, sweet Sister Mary Jane smiles as she collects her copy of the paper from her doorstep and goes to the kitchen to grab her cup of coffee. The headquarters was bustling as it was every morning. It seemed her beloveds had accepted the new cover as a shelter for those less fortunate. She could hear the gentle hum of machinery in the shop behind her. Soon a fresh batch of "rosaries" would be ready for shipping. Rosaries and ammunition of course, but no one needed to know. Settling down into her favourite chair with her yardstick within reach she notices a few people looking at her expectantly.

Oh holy shit! Sister Mary Jane exclaimed and then blushed. Oops, I mean, gosh golly darn or something. We made the paper guys and gals!!! Come here my dearies let's have a read.

Sister Mary Jane excitedly read the latest edition to her members and smiles with pride at the end.

Well, it looks like we're famous! Where's the bacon?

The gentle and loving nun looks around for the mandatory heaping plate of bacon...

Jennie noted the time the paper had been finished and simply raised an eyebrow in KateLogan 's direction.

Slash notices his accountant hasn't sent across the funding as agreed to support this weeks production.

Thats it. I'm shooting that bastard! Almost as lazy as Artus.

Calls the bank to arrange the transfer of last weeks funding and this coming week funding to ensure its not forgotten again.

There. Thats better.

Thank you Kate once again for a great read!

"Slash, there's no need to cover yourself, if you don't feel like contributing to the community then that's fine, it won't look bad on you in the slightest."

Gives Slash an evil stare and walks away.

I must say that im enjoying reading these more and more as they go on. Its even better that i have had a cameo role in the last few. I do love getting a message to say im in the paper again. To gain second in the overall rankings is a pretty decent achievement, one im particularly proud of. I have to applaud you KateLogan i dont think people really understand the effort that is required to publish a publication like this and long may it continue.

I know ill personally keep supporting the work that you're doing here as most other Crew Leaders will too.

Your accountant makes note that $250,000 has been wired to KateLogan from your account.
