I feel this because I knew people who got wacked because rumours. It's kinda sad though and in my opinion sometimes hard proof is needed before taking actions.

But sometimes those fake rumours are spread for a reason. They are spread as a means to an end. To get the results you need in a way not connected to you..

Damn, you beat me to it TyeDillinger... Was going to say that this seems like something good ol' MafiaTrivia would start up. Highly doubt this thread will ever be used for what he intended it to be since we have the Streets. In the Streets leaders give their reasons for killing, in the Streets those that have been disposed of are generally defended by their kin and friends... You know, the Streets, the role play part of the game... Not OOC. Also, almost every kill ever has been seen as "unjust" by someone.

I do have one question though, who's going to be doing the frowning?

I feel that this could be useful. As Westley mentioned, we both know people who got whacked because of rumors. There needs to be communication before innocent blood is spilt because of some nasty rumors, which is what they are, rumors. 

This is OOC for out of character discussion. Rumors about game related issues and events that are in character shouldn't be in this forum.

More importantly.... how in the name of all that is sane does anyone actually think this could ever work?

Leader A hears Leader B is planning to attack the next night.

Leader A confirms the initial rumor from multiple sources that they trust. 

Leader A has a choice....

Go to a thread about rumors, say they heard a rumor and look to discuss it?

Kill the potential threat as if they believed the rumor for a second it means there wasn't enough trust between the two parties to begin with?

Hint: One of those actions will get you, your family and your close friends killed 9 times out of 10.

Seriously. This is a mafia role playing game. It's not the boyscouts or the girl guides. If you really want to sit around and hold hands you're welcome to try, but don't expect the rest of us to want to join in. It'll never happen.

I can understand some of the rumor frustration, but this is a silly idea and has approximately 0.0% of working, in my opinion.

Sirius like rumor has it that Jeffgomas is planning to betray his crew leader and then Jeff can respond with a no and has a chance to defend himself

So someone hears rumors of a betrayal. And they're like "Hey! Are you gonna betray me?!" here in this public space. And someone else is like... "Naw!". And then it's... all good? Or they're like "Actually yea I am lolz"? I don't see any possible successful endgame here. 

Rumors are a part of this game. Entire cities have been leveled because of lies, removing thousands and thousands of hours of work put into characters. That's not a bug, though- that's a feature of the game.

Basically, everything you want to have happen here should happen in private. It's all about communication.

Sometimes, that means that when a rumor pops up, you've earned enough trust/respect to actually get asked about the rumors- although never in public. A lot of the communication and building of relationships needs to happen before those rumors even start. If that relationship isn't there, then you didn't communicate enough and you'll pay the price. 

Sometimes, no matter what you've done, there's just not enough trust that you and/or your crew is going to act in a certain way. Then you get all sorts of killed, because that level of communication just wasn't possible. 

To quote one my favorite philosophers/role models: "It is possible to commit no mistakes and still lose. That is not a weakness. That is life."

Other times, particularly here, it is possible to mess up and pay the price. That's also life. And I don't think this element of rumors will ever be removed from this particular life we share.

Speak from your own experiences ezio_auditorie. There have been many times in the past where people come to me with rumours they've heard concerning myself or the people that I represent. I've gone to others in the past regarding things I have heard as well.

It's not that uncommon really. Just because you haven't heard about it doesn't mean it doesn't happen. It can get pretty political, a tad bit petty, really frustrating, and the lies and half-truths that are told can be amazing. Really, it's almost an exciting part of the game. Some people get off being fountains of knowledge about everyone and everything and can run the game pretty much with or without being bold or in a power position. 

Who in their right mind is going to throw out "inside information" into the OOC forum for ALL to read and expect to live more than a few days? Seriously, think about it. There's a reason people don't hear about the private conversations that do happen when rumours are flying. It's really simple actually.. It' because they are PRIVATE! Meaning between those involved in the conversation and not the rest of the game.

Part of the game is plotting and planning. Even if it means spreading false rumours to forward yourself or your crew. Sad, but true. It's part of being "criminals", even if it's more like high school most of the time. 

This is the OOC forum, Out of Character, this means what we say here isn't our character speaking, it is the person behind the character. Why would someone want to risk their in-character persona over something out of character? You really think that won't happen? This is Mafia Returns not some blissful utopia. 

There are so many things you don't get about the intricacies of the game. It's not point, click, hold hands, and singing folk songs while exchanging cookies, muffins, and lollipops. 

Having spoken to Jeff in some detail I wish to retract my previous statements regarding his innocence and distance myself greatly from the man.
