Vday Experiences And Suggestions Started by: Squishy on Mar 07, '17 21:09

Please share your experience, positive or negatives, with this years VDay.  Please state if you were working with a group, and how many Vdays youve done.

So, this year worked out pretty well, but as always, we are looking for small things we can do to make the experience better without any drastic changes that alter it too much.  Sooo, got any suggestions?

For example:

"This year worked out smooth, this is my 2nd Vday and I worked in a group.  I would suggest making it maybe a 20 minute cooldown im between rounds so that the winner can take a break."

This year worked out smooth, this is my 2nd Vday and I worked in a group.  I would suggest making it maybe a 20 minute cooldown in between rounds so that the winner can take a break.

Report Post Tip

Maeby, this is why you were not invited to my last birthday party.

Report Post Tip

I have videos that say otherwise.

(In all seriousness, a 20 between rounds would be extremely welcome in my book, and gives people time to do a few things before settling in for another 3 hours.  Legitimately good suggestion, in my opinion.)

This year went pretty well. This was my, uh I lost count number of VDay. I did work in a group.

My only complaint would be something between the players, not anything regarding how the event was made or anything like that. I wouldn't mind seeing a bit of a break between rounds though.

Otherwise, the experience was good. I had fun during the rounds I played and I am very much a fan that the prizes are based on rounds and not the whole event so people are not forced to be up for the whole 24 hours to have a chance.

This is about the third time i have tried and play a VDay properly and of course would love breaks, theres nothing like being thirsty, hungry or having a headache and knowing you just won a round so have 3 minutes to do everything.   I will admit as great as it was to be around new people and work as a group with a planned tactic in mind and watching how it develops over a time period, maybe a something interesting would be break people into teams with people they don't know by a colour system randomized for the event as they log in.   When it drops down to X many people e.g 30 left remove the colours.  Before that not letting colours shoot there own colour so keeps a team element to it.

Report Post Tip

I agree with Maeby. A 15 or 20 min break between rounds to pee, get food, make coffee, and settle in would be fantastic.

The war/removal before Vday really hindered people's ability to play Vday to the fullest extent.

Chicago was removed and most of the fallen could not utilize the jailbreaking feature to gain HP during the event. While it was completely fair to have a war/takedown before Vday, some people couldn't afford the time to quickly train their jailbreaking skill in time for the event. Maybe lessen the skill for jbing for newly made accounts for the event, similarly to having no gun to participate?

Report Post Tip

Sorry for not including how many Vdays I've participated in. I have participated in the event ever since 2012.

I tried to participate this year but without being able to train jailbreaking in the short amount of time after the removal of Chicago, I didn't feel the need to participate in something I couldn't FULLY enjoy.

I enjoyed it this was only my 2nd proper attempt at vday. First attempt I was a noob and saw some funny coloured names and logged out lol. It was fun though. I would suggest providing free coffee for all who stay the 24 hours! Otherwise a break could be a good idea though I usually die with 30 minutes to spare anyways haha fun event though :)

Round 8 was fun.  I played 3, or maybe 4 out of 5opportunities. No group.  A commercial break during the round would of been ideal because my drink went dryand I had to use the bathroom.

This is my second VDay event. The first year sucked because I had no idea what I was doing and didn't really work in a team. This year I had an amazing team and that made the event so much better.

I think the break between rounds is a great idea, 15-20 minutes to give people a chance to breath. When I came in 2nd I had about 5 minutes before the next round and that was barely enough time to grab a snack and drink and get settled again. I can't imagine the people that consistently were coming out in the top every round.

The variety of the prizes is nice too as that gives a lot of people the chance to win. It would be funny to see a prize for the "worst" of something (like most failures?). Maybe not quite so big a prize, but almost like a consolation, just for amusement.

This year was loads of fun as it always is.  Had a blast :) I'd have to say this is my 8th v-day or so I lost track and I did work with along with a great group of folks.  The only suggestions I would make is to add the break time between rounds for the people that are trying to make it a whole day affair, this can really help them prepare for another long haul.  And personally, I'd like to see it changed so that people have the option of other players not having a clue who they were during the round ( no identity revealing) and also adding a feature so that V-day characters can mobmail each other separate from their in-game character.  This would give people the tools to totally separate all the fun that happens on this stand alone day from the rest of the game we all enjoy if they wanted to.

This was my first ever V-Day experience and although I was only able to join in for 2 rounds, one of which I worked in a brilliant group. I must say Squishy I had a ball it was lots of fun and a good break from the normal game. Made things a bit interesting.

I can't really give any feedback on how to improve it. So just keep at it and I look forward to more events.

Thanks for the effort :)

When you are v day dead you can wack check to find out what city alive v day peeps are in.

If they are in the same city it says something about v day.

If they are in a different city it says not in same city or protected.

Should just get the v day message no matter what city you are in.

First Vday I participated in, fully that is. Played up till Round 7 then went to sleep. There should be a longer break in between rounds, just like everyone has said so far.

Report Post Tip

Oh this is my second Vday too :P

Well, i am opposite to the 20 min break, cool down, whatever.

It is extremely difficult for only one player to play all the rounds with top performance, unless you are iocaste, or toast :P

And this no-break makes it more fair to all payers because like it or not, we are going to have a break anyway. So a great player, will leave the chance to other to compete him in total performance. I believe it is more just without break.

I'm not sure if other features could be added to the event, like mugging each other and stealing each other's health points.

Ive been around these parts for nearly a decade and really had not played Vday proper till this time.

Usually to me Vday was a holiday from MR. I must say though, it was highly enjoyable, with the sleeezy/comical names that just got reassigned.

In terms of the break b/w rounds. I for one wouldn't be against it. But then again I only played 4/8 rounds actively.

But for the guys that went 8/8, I doubt they'd like the break...as it would just make their day longer. (possibly being a down side for those guys). I however cant speak for them. So maybe they can say their bit here about the break times.

But something b/w 5-10 mins should really be the max honestly. Anything past 10 mins would just start draining players going for the 8/8.

But in all Thanks for the fun and the presents Izzy!

Next year def gonna try for 8/8

By far the most interesting and fun event of MR imo, the other cool similar thingy was when you were testing the new server.. I didn't like that Rogue hanging around for the whole day without being able to shoot at it. Maybe eliminated players should be able to shoot it? Also making it a 25h event would give those extra 7.5 minutes per round or 15 between 2 rounds to eat something or go to the bathroom... Anyways it is almost perfect as it is, and was a blast as usual.

Report Post Tip

Think this was only my second Vday, in spite of the years I've been around, and with very little memory of the other felt very like a first.

I had a blast and loved the opportunity to work with guys I'd never met before, or work with guys I hadn't had the chance to chat to in years. Reminds you just how many great people are part of the community around here.

The one thing I'll mention as a negative, and I hate doing it given I don't have a suitable fix, is that it really does reward sheer force of numbers far more than a strong team working smartly together. Working smart helps and makes a team more efficient and effective... but with enough bodies a bad team can and will still overcome a smarter/more strategic/better one.

I guess the mitigating factor here is that if one team is large enough to cause this type of problem for others it's then on the shoulders of others to find a way to team up with enough others and randomers to overcome the zerg... but if someone smarter than myself could think of a way that strategy in the event could trump bodies I'd love to see/hear it and see if it could be added into the mix.

If it were to return next year exactly as it is, it's an event I'd still totally give up a lot of time to be part of. Huge thumbs up and top marks to the admin team for making it happen! Thanks guys.
