I'll never stop Grinning Started by: Gwarble on Jul 14, '10 17:13

To say that this was never the plan would be an understatement.

I came into this life as a jaded Gangster from a proud and long established heritage. I had little to no intention of making anything of myself, but I was just too lazy to find legitimate work as a writer like dear old Dad had always wanted and slipped in with the crowd from the old neighbourhood. I was fortunate enough to run into long time family friend and village idiot Hoopi, who convinced me that it would be a better use of my time to pursue my career as a journalist, but to utilise the connections my bloodline had forged in the past to get the job done.

After much deliberation, a fair amount of scoffing at what a moron Hoopi was, I decided to take an exceedingly polite gentleman by the name of Mux up on his offer to work for his organization. He had known Grin and thought that taking in his son was a good idea. Saying I worked hard for Mux would be bending the truth, but I did enough and he trusted me with more responsibility as a result of my hard work. I was lucky to have found a home within New York and I was pleased that he gave me the opportunity that he did to establish myself.

As an Earner I was finding my feet within this thing of ours. I had made contacts and enough green that I was bold enough to found P & K Industries, a small legitimate company that traded in newspapers. It was easy enough to convince the old management that working for me and publishing our work would be the best route for their success. After a little persuasion, they agreed that the Gwarble Barble would be the finest thing to hit the streets since the Detroit Chronicle. I intended to make that a reality.

Lots of people at the time had tried to capitalise on the absence of any formal media outlet since the fall of Lucretia_Borgia's paper, but they were mostly just a waste of time. I tentatively put out the first issue of the Barble and made my biggest target the biggest name in the land, Deimne. I wasn't sure what the reaction would be, after all I was just a no name Goomba with a big mouth and fairly venomous phrase or two. Luckily for me, the Godfather saw the funny side of it and rather than reprimanding me, he actively encouraged further issues of the Barble.

After that my rise within New York was meteoric and I'm eternally gratefully for the support I received in particular from Deimne and SpaceMountain. When Mux was felled, I joined up with The Manhattan Project and the village idiot had become RHM. This trio, accompanied by RichardEnnebocks began making a mark within New York and it was a pleasure to be a part of something that was as successful as that particular organization has proved to be.

Once again I was rewarded for my work within the city and with the Barble still going strong, SpaceMountain gave me the nod to setup my own family, which was an honour to do. I served as his captain in New York and then as his Street Boss in the transition to Los Angeles. We went through a lot shaping the city into something we could be proud of and it was a privilege to see some of our newer recruits flourish and achieve their potential.

When you've been in this thing of ours for as long as I have though, eventually time takes its toll on you. You can only continue to devote some much time and effort towards the interests of your family and the city as a whole, before you start to realise that you're standing in the way of others achieving their own goals. There is only so much real estate in Los Angeles and we had many capable people within that city that deserved a chance of their own to step out from my shadow.

With this in mind I met with SpaceMountain, who agreed it was time for a new era in Los Angeles and that I would be better served by moving to pastures new. We picked Philly, a wonderful city and one which I am proud to be the head of. As Godfather, it wouldn't be right for me to be involved in the day to day running of the city, so I have decided to promote Anselmo as my Underboss. He will run the other crews within Philly and be my affiliate within the city.

I've got plenty of plans for this city that I'll reveal over the course of time. I hope to restore this thing of ours to a point where I can be proud to say I am a part of it. I look forward with continuing my long standing business interests with friends of ours in New York, Chicago and New Orleans. I look forward to establishing new enterprises with friends of ours in St Louis, Las Vegas and of course I look forward to working with my former family in Los Angeles.

My second decision within Philly has been to promote one of my best earners, most trusted soldiers and promising members to the position of Captain. Stone has been a colossus within my family for many months undertaking a variety of tasks all within the interests of the family. He has been selfless and dedicated. In my opinion he is an example to any young Mafioso who is looking at how to establish themselves, dedication and commitment to this thing of ours. Congratulations Stone, I know you'll be as solid within Philly and you have been within Los Angeles.

Rackets are being setup all over Philly and I'm looking forward to getting my taste.

Oh and the Barble isn't dead, it has just been hibernating.

It's about time we see a resurgence of organized crime in Philly. No doubt it has its own complicated history, but I'm sure you'll follow smoothly into forming a new chapter there.

Congratulations, Gwarble. I hope your duties as Godfather won't distract you too much from the Barble!

A rumoured transsexual, bisexual and all kinds of other-sexual newspaper editor, and an unreliable one at that, as head of Philadelphia. Wonders never cease. At this rate, we might find out that Hoopi is still alive, or there is a more "big-boned" individual than Iota, or that Evangeline is sleeping with Colin. I'm actually fairly sure that "Godfather ~G~warble" is the first sign of the apocalypse.

Either way, you slept your way to the top. Now, give me a slice of Gwarble pie.

And congrats. That's what I originally came here to say. Distractions, distractions...

Arriving late, Tyrion heads up to Gwarble's new HQ in Philly. Going inside he finds his old friend discussing wall decorations with Colin.

G! Well what a day eh! I'm at a loss as to what to say, a respectful congratulation or a schoolboy point and giggle. Truth be told this is a wonderful turn of events and I am delighted to see you occupy this magnificent building. This city has always held great earning power and I know you will use it as a solid foundation to build and flourish. I'm very happy to see you achieve this most respected of titles and look forward to watching you happily grow old as you continue the stout work at the paper.

Tyrion hands Gwarble an ornately carved box with inlaid gold and silver patterns. Opening it, he showed Gwarble the finely crafted gold pen inside. Glancing around he notices the swatches of wallpaper Colin is holding.

Speaking of paper, I personally would have to go with the giraffe pattern. I know its a bit ostentatious but hey, what's the point in being boring?

Smiling at his friend, he threw Colin and wink and sauntered out of the building into the fresh morning air.

It truly makes me feel happy when a friend, nay, a brother gets his own family to run.  And to see the amount of people who come out here to congratulate him is the icing on the cake.  It really shows how much class we all have.

With Anselmo as your new underboss and Stone as your first captain, you have set up your city for success.  Of course, I will miss you guys, but I am also thrilled that you get this opportunity.

Anselmo: You have been a fine captain in Los Angeles and one of the few people around here I can call a brother.  This promotion is long overdue and I have nothing but high hopes for you.  Congratulations!

Stone: A fine mafioso in This Thing.  I am thrilled you are getting your chance to lead amongst your peers and show everyone in this business what it is all about.  A congratulations is in order for you as well.

I'll shut up now, as I am rambling on in my older days.
