Well this was a bit delayed, but we got there in the end!
TribuneEditor went and had himself some connection issues which meant he was severely limited in his ability to get online to finalise the formatting and such. I doubt this will be a problem in the future, but these things tend to crop up out of the blue.
I was pretty disappointed with the response to the Trivia last Issue, so I've decided to ramp up the prizes, made it as current as I can without it being blatant and not bothered messing around with putting it in my profile rather than in the issue. Lots of easy money to be won by someone this Issue and I'll have myself a right old cry if nobody bothers to enter.
The plan is to resume our deadline date of next Wednesday, November 3rd, but we will have to play that one by ear. It could end up being 2 weeks from tomorrow and resume from there. It will depend upon the contributions that I receive from the rest of you, which happened to be significantly less for this issue than the previous one. I am ready, willing and able to pay you for anything you do write and we greatly appreciate all your contributions. Currently only Bob Liar and I produce on a regular basis without pay, GrapeJam is picking up easy money each week, the trickster.
My mailbox is always open for feedback, things you hate, things you like, things you would like to see and so on. It is also open for chewing the fat about anything related to Bob Liar, how you would like for him to die and so on. Alternatively, don't mail me at all and we'll just stick with whatever we think is best, as we the previous three issues.
Grin.
$5,000,000 Contest!
I would like some fancy images for one of our regular features, Bob Liar's Horrorscopes. I believe this would enhance our production and I believe we have some extremely talented artists here. This would probably be a good time to mention the nice wad of cash I have and would be willing to part with for the right image.
We need 12 images; one for each of the Zodiac Signs and a running theme throughout would be wonderful. If you don't have the time to submit all 12 but are capable of producing them before the next issue, if you want to do one to give me an idea and then the other 11 if you get the green light, then feel free to do that.
I will be offering the person's images that we use $5,000,000 and will probably compensate all worthwhile efforts.
Mail all submissions to TribuneEditor with "Tribune Contest" as the subject!
Trivia
Well, I guess my decision to put this into my quote than the previous issue backfired. I only had 1 worthwhile response and even that was pretty awful. I suppose I'll throw the answers out anyway for the sake of it.

In a last desperate attempt to generate some interest in this before I save myself the trouble, this Issue I'll be offering $2,500,000 to the person who submits the most correct answers the fastest.
As Godfather,

Hopefully more people than just Mark_Sanchez enter this week.
A Day in the Life (ADITL)
by Bob Liar
Well, big fucking sigh. Here we go. Mafia Tribune Issue III. Can you believe it? No, me either. Bob Liar, still employed in that bastion of newspaper reporting - the old MT. Still, if they ever let me go I can always go and find work with that big-hitting, power-house of journalism; the Priscilla Press. Old Priscilla said she was well up for the fight and by God has she shown us over this 2 week period! You see we came out hard and fast (to be fair I always come hard and fast, but that's another story). We laid down a response to her wild challenge to a fight and she swiftly put us in our place with 14+ days of total silence. Fucking deez to us there. Her total silence reminds me a lot of Doom.
So after putting a lot of thought into how to deal with this, Craig and I decided for quite some time that the best way to deal with this would be to fight silence with silence. And that is exactly what we have done for the last two and a bit weeks - Fucking nothing. Just like Priscilla. But then professionalism got the better of old Bob Liar and Craig "Fat Chopper" Harris and we dropped trowel and squeezed our paper into your collective infotainment toilet bowl.
For the last two days, Craig has been locked in his office with a 12 pack of man nappies and his extra thick Crayola. Mark_Sanchez has been weeping in the corner and laying down some words of love to his true sweetheart and GrapeJam has been excitedly shouting random names out and touching himself. And me? Well I've been masturbating for most of the two days to be honest, and I am fairly sure that GrapeJam has been watching me. Perhaps I will take him with me on a journey of self discovery one day. A real eye opener, although there would be a moment towards the end of the day where he'd have to close his eyes briefly for health and safety reasons.
But Bob had a job to do, and as much as he enjoyed a hand-shandy, he had to follow someone for a day, see what they got up to and bash it out on the trusty old Remington for publication in these pages.
Today I decided to follow a member of one of the most hated criminal families around - The Bin Dippers. Quite how 'Fat Derek' and his band of morons were given auth to setup is beyond me. But their unique brand of bin dipping and self abuse does intrigue me somewhat, so I thought I'd try to find out what they are all about. I headed down to New Orleans and made my way to the address I was given.
I entered the front door of the building and climbed the stairs to the 4th floor. Apartment 414 was the third door on the left. I stopped outside for a moment and took a deep breath. The toxic smell that immediately leaped down my throat faster than Sammy on a Stag Do let me know I had the right place. It was a unique aroma that had undertones of cabbage and urine. This was without a shadow of a doubt the home of Crescendo - No name C and much derided member of the bin dippers. I checked my watch, it was ten to twelve. I heard a rustling behind the door. I had been told that Crescendo generally didn't leave the house until lunch time, so I quickly made my way down the corridor to a safe distance (from the smell as much as anything) and got out my note pad.
The door opened and 'it' appeared; this...creature. He had a matted beard full of bits of food and dribble poking out of the front of his joggers, a string vest covering his enormous dirt encrusted gut and flip flops. He was carrying two carrier bags full of what looked like faeces, which he occasionally reached into to break a piece off and slip into his mouth. He shuffled down the stairs to the street, shying away from the bright sunlight, and immediately ducked down the alleyway next to the building. The speed and elegance of movement caught me a little by surprise and I had to run to the corner to keep up.
Dumpsters lined the alley on both sides and a small amount of movement from the second one on the left gave away his position. I watched for 45 minutes as he systematically flitted from bin to bin, in and out of the dumpsters, frantically sifting through the contents and stopping only occasionally to touch himself.
This process continued for most of the afternoon and into the dusk. He would traverse the length of the alley way from dark bin, to dark bin, before hiding his eyes from the daylight, as he was forced to cross busy roads. I didn't really see that there was much news here and decided to call it a day. The route that Crescendo had taken had left me only three blocks away from Theresa Russo's mother's house and I was feeling frisky. Luckily however, I dropped my note pad at that moment and the extra time it took for me to recover it from the floor and put it in my pocket allowed me to glimpse Crescendo's final act of the day. If not for dropping that jotter I would have missed it.
He climbed out of a dumpster near the back of the department store where he had recovered two torn blankets and most of a pillow. He crossed the alley to another dumpster which he emptied into the alley way, before throwing the bedding into it and climbing inside, like a kitten into Doom's vagina. I looked around and saw another person approach the bin. They looked up and down the alley before slipping out of all of their clothes and diving into the bin. The noises and actions that followed would have made even Cap'n bob blush. Acts of filth were performed in that bin. And after precisely thirteen minutes of thrusting and screaming Crescendo and Reginald exited the bin and went their separate ways, without so much as a handshake.
I also went my separate way and after a brief session with Mrs Russo, I headed off to the Cap'n's to catch Doom and Arista in the late showing of Sensual Sumo.
Horrorscopes
by Bob Liar
Capricorn
You will buy a new car on Thursday. Pisces will steal it on Friday. Pisces is a fucking pikie.
Aquarius
Now that you have your water levels right in your aquarium, you can look at adding some fish. Friday is a good day to get a chocolate oranda and a little boat for it to swim around in.
Pisces
You will steal Capricorn's car this week. Following a brief chase on Friday afternoon, the police will shoot you dead. Everyone will laugh.
Aries
A disagreement with your neighbour over a party wall agreement on Tuesday will ruin the Avenue's social gathering on Thursday night. Your neighbour will get drunk and punch you.
Taurus
Your wife will leave you for your brother this week. You can't be all that surprised though, things haven't really been right since you lost your job at the fish gutting plant. Sunday is a good day to start drinking yourself to death.
Gemini
A visit to Cap'n Bob's will go horribly wrong this week and Sammy will rip your cock clean off.
Cancer
I love you Cancer. You've always been my favourite. Great things will happen to you this week. Amazing sexy things. Stay away from Derek on Tuesday, he's slightly contagious.
Leo
Your life long dream of always wanting to learn how to roller-skate will come one step closer this week, when your cousin Geoff buys you a left footed roller skate. Once you have a right one and get some lessons, no one can stop you.
Virgo
Hot pants are not a good look when you are built like Craig, but I guess on the bright side they do distract attention away from your face.
Libra
Shut up Libra - just shut the fuck up. No-one is listening to a word you are saying. Yak, yak, fucking yak. In one ear and out the other. The general consensus is that you are a moron. This is an accurate assessment.
Scorpio
You should probably try not to leave the house this week. Rumours are flying around about what you and Doom did at the inner city zoo the other day and people are pretty riled by it. Wednesday would be a good day to book a weekend away until the heat dies down.
Sagittarius
Last but not least it's old Sagittarius. You chronic failure. I can't be bothered to tell you what's happening this week. You don't deserve it. Do us all a favour and kill yourself on Friday.
What's in a name? RHM time!
by GrapeJam
Exactly what it says on the tin; analysis of the names of the right hand men of our organisations.
Faceman - It doesn't feel right...I'm going to do it even though it against all of my morals. The ladies find him sexy. His best attribute being his face. I feel so dirty now.
Remus_Lupin - Something is fishy about this guy. I wouldn't be surprised if he has a few tricks up his sleeve. Something about his name...just doesn't seem right to me. I'm willing to bet he was named after these stage magicians that are becoming increasingly popular these days.
SyrupWaffle - Yum. Makes me hungry. The word on the streets is that she once lured 35 people to her house using only the idea that they would be receiving waffles with syrup. Then she proceeded to mug them all - Which is still the current record for most people mugged in a single sitting. SyrupWaffle + GrapeJam = Awesome? I think so.
Doom - The end of everything, the destroyer of worlds, the person you don't want to see during your last days; general all round fat knacker. Those are all things you would assume this name was given for. This one is a bit of a shocker. When he was just a kid his friends challenged him to curse at his mother and get away with it. He was "Doomed" from there on out. It never happened. Rumour has it she beat him for two days straight.
Unfortunately he remained bent.
MarlaSinger - By no means does her name imply what you would think it does. After the 3 packs a day this "lady" smokes, I'm surprised she even has a voice. She is named after her Aunt, the better of the two sisters. Her mother was always jealous of her sister Martha.
Adriana-Andolini - The Andolini family are a far reaching bunch. With so many running around it is hard to keep track of them all. Currently there are rumours of incest floating around, but I couldn't reach anyone for comments. Oh yeah, her name. Great Italian name. Good Ol' gal.
Rayne - We should check in with the parents of this one. Say it aloud with me now, R. A. I. N. That's right. Rain is not spelled with a 'y' and an 'e'. I suppose if choosing your own name was an option, we'd all have some variation of Grape or Waffle in it.
Mike_Litoris - Am I the only one that is noticing this? I know I'm not, so I will just leave this one be. Gross.
Townslave - WOOHOO! Everyone gets a ride. That's what they say right? YES IT IS! Well, if you feel the itch and you need it scratching you know where to look. The town slave aka town bicycle.
Syriana - This sounds more like a place then a name. Never even heard of the place, must be a waste. Not this person though. A well respected name, but a not so well respected place - You be the judge.
OpheliaPayne - This is one of my favourites. It all starts when OpheliaPayne got into a brawl with twelve thugs. Ophelia won but was in bad shape. She lay there for days just waiting for someone to treat the wounds. Eventually they were treated and the nickname OpheliaPayne just stuck. Oh right, it stands for this: Other People Heal Ya' Pain. OP Helia Payne.
Luxx - Haha. This is why kids shouldn't do drugs! She got a hold of a stash of bad crack when she was eleven. She walked around acting like a chicken for two days. All she could say was, "Clux" "Clux." I guess people didn't understand her well and just thought she was saying, "Luxx." I'm glad they didn't realize she was really going crazy and trying to join this weird group of people.
TheresaRusso - I'll start with the definition of "Russo" - An attractive woman who doesn't speak English well. Every time she comes around all the guys are trying to flirt with her. They think just because she doesn't speak English well, they can trick her into going home with them. It doesn't work.
Craig - Rumours are that he is "special." The kind of special you hide in the closet. I guess Derek prefers hiding his special little friend in bins. I suppose whatever keeps him out of trouble. I think the name Craig is the only thing he can manage to say so...what else are you suppose to call him?
Francie - I hear she's from France and is a stuck up fancy type. Just makes sense to nickname her Francie. A combination of the two words.
Callum - He's always wanted to be a big time Wise Guy in the sense that he is the guy to call when someone needs to be taken care of. Wanted is the key word in that sentence. He never quite got it down. So, the boss always ended up saying "Call 'em" right after he left. Knowing there would need to be someone else to assist in the hit.
-BostonGeorgeJung - He seems to always know where the good deals on cocaine are. I have no idea how he knows but he does. I'm very suspicious that his name has something to do with that. Give me about 50 years and I'm sure I'll know.
Underdog - He was always small growing up, the runt, the Doom. You've never seen a runt hit so hard or run so fast. He always got one good hit in then ran in the other direction. You'd do it to if everyone was twice your size.
Christian_Bale - He's the guy to go to when you need to get out of the slammer. He's bailed so many people out the name stuck. I guess if you fail at breaking people out so much, you're just willing to front the money.
Taurus - Someone was telling me something about starts and old people having names for certain things about places and people and items...to say the least I was confused. Supposedly he is special or something. Can tell the future...or tell you how you will feel today. Is this Bob Liar? I don't know!
Sho - Have you ever been disappointed? Well, this one's the person to blame. He is always trying to put on shows but never really coming through on his promises. It's always disappointing and always a little short. So we take away his W until he is willing to give a full show.
Serenity - Peace. Love. Harmony. All of which are nothing like this person. Have you ever met a really big guy named "Smalls"? Some people are just sick and twisted like that. Don't believe this name for a second, it's the exact opposite.
Marston - He likes to pretend he is a cowboy on the open range. Apparently there was a bad-ass cowboy named Marston that he likes to pretend to be. Hey, you too had an imagination when you were younger!
Maranatha - This is more simple than you would think. Her name is actually, Mara Natha. Not sure why it got smooshed into one name.
G-Force - He is a know it all, the science type - A big waste of time if you ask me. There's no money to be made in science. GET A JOB! That's what I say.
Second
by Craig
Difficult to gauge the mood at Tribune HQ, mainly because the majority of our staff have been so totally absent, we've stopped expecting them to waddle their way through the extra-wide doorway, something between relief and a coronary registered on their chubby face as they park their tremendous bulk into an oft-broken chair.
Despite the absence of whichever particularly rotund individual you would like to apply the above description to (and I can think of several candidates right off the bat) the Tribune still had a wealth of talent at its disposal. Mark_Sanchez had handed in his prudent if sycophantic analysis of business across the cities, GrapeJam had done something alarmingly similar to the piece he churned out for the last issue, effectively cutting his paycheck in half and good old Craig was available to make it not a total lovefest. Sadly Bob Liar had his Horrorscopes produced in terrorem as usual.
Annoyingly we went and totally missed the deadline whilst we waited for the Bob Liar special report into the Bin Dippers and their bizarre practices, which of course didn't arrive until today. We later discovered that Bob was seen on deadline day heading towards the Cap'n's practicing his Viennese Waltz for the upcoming audience participation event. Not so horrifying until you know it has nothing to do with dancing and a lot to do with a young Austrian boy named Walter from Vienna.
Not very surprising then that it took several days and several centimetres from Walter before anything found it's way to Retardo's desk. Speaking of whom, the Editing Monkey wore a particularly dour expression and must have felt as bad as Arista usually looks after he let everyone down, so he decided to ramp up the prizes to compensate/generate some interest after last week's pathetic showing. The showing was so bad in fact, that a joke entry (at least it was so bad I assume it was a joke entry) has won the Trivia. Another easy million pissed away faster than a war's won against j0ng0tt1.
That massive disappointment (the lack of interest and j0ng0tt1) behind us, I suppose we best get on with it. Thanks to the complete lack of help from my fellows, which I'm sure you'll notice is distinctly sub-par - you're about to enjoy Tribune a la Craig.
Appetising.
Priscilla - Missing Presumed Humbled
by Craig
Way back in the October 6th edition of the Mafia Tribune, yours truly reported that:
"Old one-joke-fits-all Priscilla, has taken her generic, mildly risqu, scantily clad, attractive female picture-covered chops and decided that she'll keep on pumping out her 'Priscella Press'." - Craig
It would appear that was a glaring error on my part, one which I apologise profusely for.
Here at the Tribune, we like to be accurate with our reporting or at least somewhere near to the truth. Well, maybe not near, but you know, if you used your imagination, had taken a couple of knocks to the head and maybe had a couple of large drinks, then it might come near to being believable. Like the idea of Captain_Stubing being a respectable leader rather than a makeweight. You get the idea; massive stretching of the truth. That's the ticket.
With this in mind, imagine our disappointment when Priscilla went back on her own vow to keep on condensing up the windows of the short bus and writing her paper with her finger on the glass. Instead of churning out her waste of trees, she instead produced absolutely nothing at all. At first we thought there must have been some sort of mistake, after all, when confronted on the matter of whether she would stop decorating the bus windows with her jibber jabber she retorted:
"Am I going to quit Priscilla Press? HELL MOTHA FUCKINNN NOO!" - Priscilla
Stirring stuff. We were rightly frightened, intimidated and cowered within our Ivory Tower. The Tribune quivered, it knew better than anyone that every good product needs a selling point and we can never doubt that Priscilla identified hers right off the bat:
"Something that Priscilla Press offers, that The Tribune doesn't is....time. It will never take you an hour to read my paper. 5 minutes at most" - Priscilla
But as the days have turned into weeks and neither Priscilla nor her Press have been seen anywhere near the Streets, we must assume production has ceased. I apologise profusely. She won't keep pumping out her 'Priscilla Press' as I reported she would, unless she's adopting a new tactic of producing an invisible paper.
Sadly, it seems she undersold her most valuable of commodities. 5 minutes at most? It now won't take you any time whatsoever to read the Priscilla Press, what an improvement!
Anyone else tired of spinning?
by Mark_Sanchez
The majority of us who inhabit this world are destined to see history inevitably repeat itself. It is not all that surprising as bloodlines can be traced through so many different generations, that we watch the same few artists paint the same few pictures on our canvas. This in itself is not a particular problem and I think we are all prepared to accept that certain individuals within this thing of ours are more suited to leadership positions than others.
My question is when will someone change the mould? Very few leaders have actually done something different than the tried and tested method that is pretty much universally adopted. Each city has adopted the Marietta blueprint for how they should be run, with a Godfather at the top, Underboss, Captain, Captain and so on. This cycle is not taking us forwards and is only seeing us following our own footsteps around again and again.
Why are we doing this? It appears that we have sacrificed a lot for the stability of the few, with a single Godfather running multiple families. This would be extremely unlikely, as the honorary title of 'Godfather' was bestowed upon the supreme head of a single family and as history tells us, many families often operated from within the same city due to their size and the diverse nature of business. We see none of this within Mafia Returns, with very few unique outfits ever coming into operation.
I firmly believe that multiple individual families within a city would be beneficial for MafiaReturns, but I am not naive enough to believe that we will see it. We have become so set in our ways that we can no longer even fathom the possibility of doing things differently. Each regime is a carbon copy of its predecessor, right down to the same strengths and same failings. The only real difference is in the skill of the individuals at the top, which is ultimately minor.
The homogenous nature of our business in this modern era can be evidenced by the very structure of our families. Nobody is prepared to do anything remotely different from the tried and tested method, which has fairly gaping flaws. Our organisations should run feudally like a pyramid, but the way best to achieve this is entirely open to interpretation.
I would welcome someone to try a different method and I would call upon those city heads to cast their nets wide rather than just staying on safe ground. Nobody remembers the followers, people only remember the great pioneers, many of whom seem to be lacking.
The next CrazyNine is probably walking amongst us, waiting to shine. Be that star.
The Rest of the Bullshit News
by Craig
The arrival of TylerDurden and his merry men was about the most interesting thing to have happened in MafiaReturns between our issues. The various levels of organized crimes made their way to the Streets and un-holstered their weapons, shooting anything in sight. How very exciting.
After that there was a particularly lively discussion from McDermott about the nature of rogues. It was summed up by Syriana fairly succinctly, a rogue being someone who operates outside the authority of the ruling bodies, but the discussion managed to progress beyond that anyway. The ensuing tit for tat was extremely dull and if there was an award for being pedantic, I'd ask them to make an award for being boring as sin and give it to McDermott.
Ragnarok completely misled everyone by shouting about "Exciting Times in Detroit!" which actually turned out to be well fucking boring times in Detroit, as we have come to expect. You've opened a Casino? Stop the presses. Why aren't we covering this in more detail? Bob, can you get down there to cover this breaking development? What's that? Oh yes, of course. Absolutely nobody gives a shit.
If that wasn't bad enough, Maranatha trotted out before us to steal some of Ragnarok's complete lack of limelight. At least Detroit mentioned gaping holes and with all the Arista jokes in the world that had good smirk potential; the subsequent 'High Life' casino opening had none of that comedy value. Although serial useless contributor SINGERROURKE was luckily on hand to dribble some more waste-of-my-time into the conversation, much to the chagrin of every living being. Thanks for that.
Drexler was after Altidore's record for complete and utter disinterest in the announcement of his outfit which drew a staggering two listeners. Hardly surprising with a name like the 'Jefferson Park Posse', which it has to be admitted, sounds a lot more like a society for those with a passion for dogging than a legitimate family.
Danny was out and about to tell everyone about his surprising proposal. Luckily he decided to whisper it so I just kept up my pace and strolled right on past to listen to Gero. He asked us all what our vices are and finally my visit to the streets was made worthwhile by "You". Point.
That's about your lot, if anyone says or does something entertaining, I'll shout. I expect to remain as quiet as Priscilla over the coming months.
The Importance of Voting
Some people call it the worst 5 minutes of their day, but those 5 minutes make all the difference to this game. The voting tabs make up an important component to small market games such as MafiaReturns. Because the revenue the game generates comes entirely from the users, we try to apply as much money to advertising that is available after operation costs like equipment and employee wages are paid out. Right now our advertising is minimal, and thus our returns on the sites we currently ask for you to vote for us on are not where they should be.
I personally want to thank the people who vote for us on a regular basis on behalf of the entire MafiaReturns staff. Even if the difference isn't overwhelming, it is certainly there. There are currently some superficial alterations that need to be made to the game just to make it more visually appealing, but once that is complete we are considering putting money aside for bigger pushes in advertisements.
Voting will never be mandatory, but I can't express enough how vital it is. By voting not only are you supporting MafiaReturns, but you are also showing us that allocating larger quantities of funds to advertising will be beneficial. Any game can drop money to advertise on different sites, but when we're the top rated game on multiple websites that SHOWS new players that not only are we looking for new folks to fill our game, but also that the players we have now enjoy the product we put out.
When I go out to a store or restaurant, I can be swayed by reviews from other customers, so every vote does make a difference. I know that it isn't amazingly popular, but for this game to have a future, we do need your help. Even folks who share IPs can vote safely on several of the sites without the message that a vote has already been taken for that day.
In the coming weeks we'll be making a contest to spotlight the importance of voting, but for now, I implore the folks who don't vote to give it a try. If not for the game itself, then for the friends you've made through MafiaReturns who want this game to continue for years to come.
Thanks,
BillyBathtub
The Importance of Voting
I did not know voting was that important! I always thought it was just a money earning tactic and to help Mafia Returns get out there.
I'll be sure to vote everyday, and I'm looking forward for the contest.
The Importance of Voting
I admittedly do not vote as often as I should. I like to tell myself its because I want them to be available to recreate issues users report.
I will be more diligent Billy in voting! I am sorry for being a poor example!
Thanks Papa bear!
The Importance of Voting
Completely aggree, voting is imperitive.

I do have a question though...seeing as how the game really took off when it featured on the FHM top 100 games list, is there a way to associate the game with other brands going forward? different magazines, features on different techy/ gaming sites, anything like that?
The Importance of Voting
Vote. It benifits you and it benifits the game. Each vote resets your petty timer, so theres extra cash for each vote. It always takes one minute off your felony timer each time you vote. So doing all your votes lets you do an extra felony basically. Also, you recieve a bit of xp for each vote.
More so than anything else, it helps our site. We all love this game and put time into it. Seeing it grow and expand is good for the owners, good for the coders, and good for us players.
Help the site, help yourselfs, take a few minutes and vote!
