| Container Crews - Coming to a theater near you! | Started by: Squishy on May 22, '18 06:04 |

Tomorrow I will be launching container crews in the following areas: NY - Brooklyn NY - Manhattan DT - Corktown DT - Downtown LA - Pasadena The above list are districts that have not been spoken for or given dates for when they will be ready to launch so they will be filled with temporary crews. Container crews will be set up to provide housing for members with a strong encouragement that existing crews place a member in a/some/all container crews so that they can work with, educate, and then transition members into their own family. Container crews will stay bold until the following conditions are met: We have 24/7 job coverage 98% of the time for 2 consecutive weeks. We have no more than 1 no-contact per crew, per day, for 2 consecutive weeks. I will be selecting members to run the container crews shortly. Before we fade out container crews, they will be given the option to seek auth, go back into another family, or suicide at the end. If they are granted auth, upon dropping their crew, I will purchase their HQ and forts, provided there were no problems. If they go back into another family, I will financially compensate them, provided there were no problems. If they choose to suicide, I will heavily compensate them, provided there were no problems. I will be reaching out over the next 2 days to discuss this with those who are being selected to see if there is mutual interest. Thank you all for your patience, we hope to be back up and running with homes for everyone shortly. |

Might we ask why there wasn't an application process this time, Squishy? I was sure that was done in the past. Just curious more than anything. |

I just feel that if container crews have to be a thing, maybe some of the game mechanics need to really be rethought. Constantly having “God” interference in the ebb and flow of the world is really disheartening. I understand the intent is to keep as much of the player base as possible - but to me, the container crew idea is like a lowest denominator solution. I was surprised by how many families and crews were left after the end of this war. However, those people have to figure out a way forward. If the fear is that too many of those in higher places could easily surpress the rest of the site and player base indefinitely - we call that game breaking. We need real change. And the community needs to provide input. Not 5-10 people behind the scenes. |

theseus, you're right, and wrong. Change needs to occur, and user base input will be needed. However, if izzy is going to maintain a user base to get input from, he needs to get his users into crews so they wont die while change happens. More importantly, the game is heavily user driven. What your seeing now, will settle out in some form going forward as the container crews step up or step aside. Bottom line, a solution will have to taketime, and at the moment, time isn't available. Once the user base is assured, the kind of change your talking about can be assessed both by city hall and by the users |

I'm nearly 90% sure the reason he's doing this is not because of what you're dramatically stating, but rather that for the next week or two there's just not enough people of age, willingness, funds, trust, etc; to go take crews in each and every one of these cities. What would you instead propose is done for the next 10 days while we're in a heavy transitioning period? |

I will also go a step further and say wouldn't it be worth a temporary week long expansion of HQ's as i am still seeing R's killed off with no gain in it |

This migth just be a chance for some fresh new things to happen. I think its worth a shot trying this model. Hopefully people will be offered the chance to step up who have experience enough to be able to carry the responsibility but are from a bloodline not having held top dog positions before or maybe just had a go or two at it previously. I am positive that something interesting and good migth come from this. |

The point is missed on some... clearly. And no, I wasn’t being dramatic or trying to overstate anything as an attempt to do so either. IF there is a need for container crews (admin intervention) based on normal in-game developments, does this not indicate an overall problem with the gameplay balancing? But here we are again - with the same bloodline favoritism we have seen before because they can be trusted to “do the right thing” and are a known quantity. The problem is still inherent throughout - we haven’t solved anything. We’ve once again put a band aid on a amputation. Same problem as 7 years ago and still no true solution. Administrative “god” interference and more of the same people running crews with the same underground cults will continue to drive people away. There have been a lot of newcomers to this thing of ours in the last year and I’d hate to see the sins of our past drive them away for good. We need real change sincerely - this 18 year veteran |

Absolutely. There is fundamental flaw on having a open canvas for all the players to paint on. We put all our eggs in one basket - families taking in new members. What happens when this can no longer happen? Whats a viable solution? Rebuild mode isnt stoping the killing, heat isnt stopping the killing. Expanding HQs would shift the power too much out of the hands of the average Joe. So we create the space elsewhere in a temporary way. I'm not being sarcastic here, I would love to hear your solution that doesn't involve removing players options, and works in all scenarios (The existing powers are good, bad, mixed, new, old, friends, enemies, whatever.) |

There simply wasn't time. I keep mental list of those that impress me. I went down that list and looked for conflicts. I then reached out to people on opposite factions and vetted those I fear may be too jaded after recent events to do this. Once my list was narrow, I had enough people to cover the bare minimum for the site to cover new members until new people get authed. This would be much easier if site wars were scheduled days in advance :P |

I think that would give a little more headstart to the current leaders than those that will be coming of age to become a leader soon. I would rather not make that gap larger than I have to. |

I appreciate the dialogue as always Scott - and the others. I think ultimately, I was hoping that the community could get a chance to discuss the issues and work out the details so that it wasn’t just one or two people in a think tank. I’m not saying that the container crew isn’t something that shouldn’t be done at the moment, but I do feel that if we only focus on the issue of new people influx compared to crews to contain them, we aren’t going to truly solve the problem. There are a lot of interconnected variables. If I did have to offer some starting talking points as possible alternative solutions, I would start with how crews are formed and where they “reside.” I think that we should have crews (formerly sub crews) housed under a family bracket - like the old days, but with actual game feature and mechanic. In the .org days, (as many will remember) we simply simulated this by having a crew/family hierarchy thread in our HQ which dilineated who ran the family and who operated as defacto sub crew (capo regime) leaders. Each family leader allowed their sub crew leaders or personally micro managed who fell into what sub crew. I think if we changed things where crew leaders and family leaders were not the same thing, this may encourage family leaders to give more people a little more responsibility like running a crew. Those crews could have any numerical limitation we want, but would allow entire families to be more sizeable. It would also clearly define for both old and new players, who is pulling the strings. im sure I would have to better explain this one idea, but I think you will see that there are some creative solutions that could be worked out for the long term with more discussion and other people’s input. |

Well as much as it saddens me to see someone removed as gf back as cl, as much as short term it solves the problem it doesn't fix the problem overall. I think i was right with my 14:35 comment as for the HQ issue on the same auths, as for HQ expansion if it had kept a few extra people in the game instead of them being shot for +0's i wouldn't of seen the problem especially with the difficulty of player retention. |

When the container crews are over, they go back to their old status. If they had 0, they will have 0 when its over. If they had 12, they will have 12 when its over. Doing the IWP now was easier and a time saver over coding a new class of character specifically for container crews. They do not get to keep their bodyguards, they will only receive what they previously had. |

Need to get rid of this ideology that a random person can't set up their own "container" crew. Recently a player, Satin I believe, tried to set up a crew and even ask the rest of them not to shoot. Why? He expressed his intent in the Streets. What happened? Shot in seconds. If there is no population and no people in power to call the shots and auth their own, others should be free to set up their own shop and do as they please. If they decide to be a monstrosity and cause problems, then they should be taken care of the, the way any other auth would. I personally considered doing this but didn't want to waste a few days training just to get killed off even though I have good intentions to take in players, give them protection and guidance for the newer ones. Rebuild mode won't stop the killing. Being in a family would certainly help. TLDR; I'm not saying everyone who sets up a crew during a time like this to try and make a run for it will have the best intentions at heart, but the game is should allowed for the players to make this decisions themselves. Example: PlayerA sets up along 5 other players who have the financial resources, know how, time, and so on. The 5 players decide PlayerA is a fucking tool and decide they need him removed for the betterment of the game/world -> They contact Lucky for example to have it taken care of. While I understand this is a game and it needs to stay afoot to make the time you put into it Squishy, I believe the player base could correct itself in this sort of situation--theoretically, at least. Just my two cents. |

Everyone is free to do as they please, but actions have consequences. Satin set himself up, and was shot for doing so. Action/Reaction. This wasn't at Squishy s demand, the users on top did as they pleased with him. You will never, ever see this world allow any one to just setup with out someone important approval. Good intentions, or dastardly rogues( my fav people ever) people will try to remove them with the quickness! |
