The icing on the cake - Tammy's Bakery Started by: Tammy on Nov 23, '18 13:11

Recently, her late father's employer was sentenced to a massive time in jail. Apparently having decided to use his daily telephone call to get in touch with Tammy, Random got a hold of her on the second day of his jail time.

When they spoke, at first, it sounded like Random supposed no one was listening along as he asked Tammy to bake him a cherry pie with a nail file hidden in it, so he could break out, but Tammy soon figured out that that must have been a coded message. As it would have been silly to think the wardens weren't hearing the conversation. So she went further.. Asking about the type of cake he would like could maybe buy Tammy some time to figure it out. Unfortunately Random confused her further with his demands for special kinds of cherries that he wanted as an ingredient for the cake. Maybe he meant that he wanted lollipops to receive the cake, so she could break them both out?

But no, Random went on and on about the cherries.. It needed to be Traverse Bay cherries.. Tammy had no clue, but said she would get on it as fast as she could, promising him to get his nail file cake within about 6 days.

As she had layed the horn back on the telephone, she started staring, mumbling about cakes. She phoned Long_Island_Lolita, who unfortunately told her that it wasn't the season for Michigan tart cherries and instructed her to import some deep-frozen ones from elsewhere in the country.

Why? Why can't Random just ask for an apple pie? Tammy complained, apparently out loud, as Ju_St_Ice replied to her out of the blue

I am looking forward to coming to your Detroit Business District Bakery, Tammy! He said as he passed her..

A Bakery..? That doesn't sound like Tammy, she thought..

But.. Tammy's Bakery does sound like Tammy! The initial idea was decent, but she felt like her conversion of Ju_St_Ice's plan was a brilliant idea!
I will ask Nikita for the Dutch Apple Pie recipe she once offered.. And maybe the lovely Lo has a recipe for Pasteis de Nata or Red Velvet Cake. And I can serve fresh coffee... To attract The_Nun.. And maybe tea, for those of British descent, the ill and Donny_Donowitz.. It sounds like a perfect plan! And if I want to attract all of those people.. Maybe..

Yes!

Tammy decided to write down a menu, even before she asked Godfather Rampage or his leader Soseki for a location within the District. She would soon.. But the business plan needed a menu!

Drinks

Coffee $1
Tea for Brits $1
Tea for non-Brits* $1

Cakes and pastries - prices per slice

Chocolate Cake $2,50
Molten Chocolate Cake $2,50 and 10 minutes
Lemon Curd Cheesecake $3
Dutch Apple Pie $4**
Swiss Roll $1
Pastel de Nata $2
BreeZe's Chocolate-Red Wine cake $3
The Squishy special: Warm apple pie with vanilla ice-cream $3

For Brits, or those with British blood on their hands, on demand, every single slice of cake can be marred by emptying a small canister of custard over it.

* includes an eyebrow raise
** Half the money will need to go to Nikita's mother as she owns the recipe

Now.. Now she was ready to present the plan. She opened the door, stepped out and ran into DonaBisi as she was still deciding to who to go to..

What do you think, Dona? Should I either ask Soseki or Rampage for a site to open Tammy's Bakery?

Louis was feeling peckish after a long time in Detroit. It had been a while since he had had something tasty to eat and happened upon Tammy’s bakery. He had known Tammy for years and seeing her branch out into her own business made Louis feel proud.  As he opened the door, the smell of freshly baked cakes and the unmistakable whiff of vanilla brought memories flooding back. Memories of Sunday dinners in Seattle where before getting his satchel ready for school the next day his father would pull together a tasty meal followed by a delicious dessert drenched in custard. Louis knew at that point that besides the likes of carbohydrates and proteins etc that if he ever became famousish like his father he would try to have custard listed as a major food group; a new concept in the way umami had started catching on as a distinct basic taste.

He pored over the menu and knew exactly what he wanted. The waitress came over to take his order;

Good afternoon, l would love to have the Swiss roll with custard and a pot of tea please. No milk though for the tea. Is Tammy around today or have other appointments taken her out of town?

The waitress smiled, said she would be back momentarily with his food and would check on Tammy’s whereabouts.

Debby was walking on Detroit's streets after she had drink a delicious wine in the Red Bar when she noticed a bakery on the other side of the street. The bakery had a distinct decoration by could be noticed looking from outside, curious she crossed the street and entered the store.

There were a few tables scattered harmoniously, looking around Debby noticed that the place was indeed very inviting. Smiling, Debby walked over to one of the attendants who were chatting near from where the cakes were exposed.

"Hi, I'd like a coffee with no sugar and a piece of The Squishy special cake, I got curious about the taste of it." Debby spoke as she gave the attendant a light wink.

"Hi, ma'am, do you want to sit at that table near the window while I take care of your order?" The attendant replied.

"Sure, no hurry. Would you have a newspaper available for me to read while I wait?" Debby asked in order to occupy her time and also to know the news of the city.

"Yes, ma'am, they are arranged at that little table near the door," the girl said.

Debby thanked her and walked over to the papers, after picking out one that looked interesting, she sat up and started to read.

After a long day of talking to Random at the local Detroit Prison, Dona decided to go home freshen up and visit a friend of hers down in 12 street. Finishing up at home Dona headed towards  12st, on her way there she picked up a pack of smokes and the daily newspaper not that she would read it. As she walked Dona lit a cig and begin to process the day in her head, thinking things over and over she had not realize she had almost finished her cig so she lit another. Walking by , what seemed like a very familiar building she was startled to see her friend Tammy exiting the building. Dona and Tammy caught up with one another , Tammy had informed Dona she would be opening up a bakery soon but was wondering if she should ask Rampage or Soseki for a site to open Tammy's Bakery. Dona immediately suggested Rampage  as he was the Godfather of 12 street and it would be a looked highly upon  if he would give the blessing.

At this point Dona decided to skip out on her outside friend and converse more with Tammy and learn more about how she would be running her bakery. Dona had been extremely interested and could use some more work . Since she had moved to america things were looking up but the more money she could make the better. Now she would need Tammy's approval for her to work there given everything goes well.

The waitress's waitress, who according to Ronin was named Sue, entered the kitchen and looked as confused as her title seemed. Before telling the kitchen staff what to prepare, she turned towards Tammy. All Tammy thought was how she never remembered her help's real name, and how she had desperately called out to Ronin to come up for a name she could remember, and how he first wanted to name her Tammy.. Which would have been terribly confusing. Tammy was thankful for Ronin not naming Sue Tammy..

Anyway, Sue spoke

Tammy.. There is a young man, rather handsome, sitting there in the bakery.. He doesn't seem very British, but he wants tea.. Should I check his temperature? Also, he wants a pot of custard without milk.. If I got it right..

It all is a bit weird here, Tammy, in this bakery that neither given a location for by Soseki, nor by Rampage. To be honest, Tammy, I am rather stressed out by serving this locationless location. It is freaking me out!

Sue grabbed her apron, tore it off of her and sped out through the back entrance.

Tammy sighed.. She wanted to tell Sue how she would have approached Rampage, as DonaBisi had suggested to reach out to him first, as he recently became Godfather of the District. But she had been wrestling with other issues recently, running a bakery was hard work!

As she entered the bakery herself, she noticed LouisMezzo sitting, but before she stepped up to him, she attended the lovely DebbyRyan, who was the first person to ask for the Squishy special. Tammy smiled as she wondered whether the fine looking young woman knew about the size of the piece of apple pie she just ordered. Anatomically it would be impossible.. But we will see, Tammy thought as she instructed her where to find the newspaper.

I am sorry, Mr Mezzo Junior, Tammy spoke as she finally got to the little table the fine looking LouisMezzo was sitting at.
From what I heard from my ex-employee, a girl named by Ronin as Sue, you requested a pot of custard without milk..? Tammy raised an eyebrow as she felt uncomfortable asking such a weird thing.. She made a mental note to fire Sue if she had the chance.

She patiently waited for the handsome young Mister Mezzo to speak, wrote down his needs and smiled, before walking back to the kitchen.
As she entered, she grabbed a marker and a piece of paper and wrote

HELP WANT..

Until, suddenly she remembered how DonaBisi said she was in search for some money recently. Tammy did not finish the paper, but instructed the kitchen staff to prepare what LouisMezzo had ordered and, of course, the huge Squishy special for Miss Ryan, before she went on to make a telephone call to try and get a hold of DonaBisi, to ask her about her experience..

in waitressing!

On his way back to headquarters after a long and tiring business trip Soseki was surprised to see a sign for 'Tammy's Bakery' on 12th street out of the window of his cab. He made a mental note to return and investigate when he had the chance, surely it couldn't be his left hand woman Tammy running the bakery as she was far too busy with all their other enterprises!

During that week, Soseki made an effort everyday to head back to the bakery. He went to where he had seen it just the day before, only today it wasn't there. He could not have been more certain of the exact spot where the sign at caught his eye out of the taxicab window, yet try as he might the bakery was nowhere to be found.

Later, as he was leaving HQ in another Taxi, Soseki saw the bakery again but he was certain it was in a completely different location. He rubbed his eyes and grumbled something about not getting enough sleep these days. This process continued for the next few days, trying to find the bakery to no avail, only to later see it when he was too busy to visit. Eventually, after days of frustration, he decided to simply follow Tammy as she left HQ. To his amazement she simply walked down the street and straight into the bakery like it was the simplest thing in the world. Entering after her with his mouth still ajar in surprise and confusion he saw that not only had Tammy easily found the bakery, but a host of customers had as well.

He composed himself and headed in to the back to confront Tammy.

What the hell is going on with this bakery Tammy?

As Tammy explained the locationless nature of the bakery everything gradually started to make absolutely no sense.

Tammy! Of course we can find you a location! I'll get you set up as close to the HQ as possible, partly to make your journey easier but honestly these cakes look delicious so I'm going to want you nearby. DonaBisi is absolutely right that the blessing of Godfather Rampage will be a lot more helpful than anything I can do, but at least I can give you a permanent location!

Soseki was looking a bit distressed when he also entered the unpinned venue, asking Tammy what the hell was going on.

Well, boss.. I was baking this nailfile-cherry cake for Random, as he said he needed it to free himself and lollipops from jail, but then..
Tammy sighed.. Just at the moment I had handpicked all the right cherries.. already dusted them..

She looked at Soseki, noticed he didn't understand the dusting..
Dusting them helps the cherries from sinking to the bottom of the cake.. I can't use the ones that are too big though, as they will still sink..
Soseki seemed to understand now, so Tammy could continue.

At that very moment, when I was already pre-heating the oven, Random decided to switch his mind, suddenly wanting blueberry-cake instead! Tammy paused theatrically, raising her hand with the inside face up, holding her shoulder high.

So now.. here I am, at this place that Rampage is still to decide, dusting the blueberries that I ordered right after Random informed me of his choice. It was a hassle to find the very best ones! But I got these transported here all the way from the damp Pacific Northwest. As the climate and acidic soil there are the perfect place for blueberry bushes to grow..

Tammy noticed Soseki got distracted.

So.. resuming.. What is going on?
Random couldn't make up his mind on the cake. But now I want to have it ready for when he comes out!

Soseki seemed to misunderstand perfectly.

Can I get you anything yourself, boss?

Coffee..? Tea? And would you like to try any of the pastries or would you prefer to wait until the bakery has actually earthed?

By the way... Have you encountered DonaBisi by chance? I have failed to get in touch with her yet.. Maybe she can't find the bakery?

Donna was having trouble finding Tammy's Bakery, the paper that had the address on it ran into coffee and well things got messy. She could only see the cross street and would have to look around to find it.

Walking up and down the cross streets avenue, Dona finally spotted Tammy's Bakery, she walked in and could see her friend Tammy standing behind the counter busy with customer's. She decided being rude and interrupting would look bad if she wanted to work there so she decided to wait patiently at a table off to the side.

When the line had shorted Tammy approached Dona and told her to follow her to the back room so they could speak about her experience as a waitress and working in bakery's.

Charlie walked out of The Tops Casino and Resturant, it was clear that he was a bit tired from the scene of being a manager and decided to relieve the stress with a nice cup of Cocoa. He sighed, noticing that the bakery was a bit packed and he waited, knowing that to receive some nice stress relief, he would wait like a good little boy, finally, though, the line had shortened and he was soon to be giving his order, only a waitress had stopped him.

She guided him over to a small table in the corner, giving him a nice cup of Hot Cocoa and a slice of Molten Chocolate Cake. He sighed, breathing in the aroma of the delicious snacks. He looked around and noticed DonaBisi and Tammy, both of them had gone into a backroom. He sighed, as he too wanted to speak with the owner of this fine establishment. He guessed that he would have to wait and he bit into the cake, as he had taken a small bit off from using his fork.

As the cake touched his taste buds, his eyes seemed to explode in a show of such divine taste, he had never eaten anything like it and was moved by it. He knew that he would have to give his own personal thanks to the Baker for making such a tasteful snack, he leaned back, his eyes alight with excitement...

"Well, I'll be damned, I think I've found my break spot now..."

Tammy was all exited as she spotted DonaBisi in the little queue that was lining up in the oddly placed bakery store. After Rampage, who still was to point out a plot for her bakery, Dona was definitely the person she wanted to meet most eagerly!

Tammy was quick to draw her out of the line and as she took her to the bakery itself. She asked her some formal questions, basically just to give DonaBisi the idea that it was quite a serious job, but she would always get it anyway. Tammy needed help, partly because she knew visiting Godfather Chairman @JemaineClement was in town for an extended period. And she wanted to bake the best possible pie to thank him for spending such a long time in Detroit.
So Tammy asked DonaBisi

You will have to bake a Croquembouche.. Have you ever made one before? It's quite simple.. First you make the little whip-cream filled pâte's à choux.. Then you stack them together, using sugar you caramelize.. And you build it until it looks like a Christmas-tree.

Tammy smiled, hoping DonaBisi would do perfectly, as she didn't want to make her do it over and over again, and then re-entered the bakery shop again, seeing a wide-eyed Charlie_Pavanno leaning back in his seat near the window front. She stepped up to him, thanking him for the generous tip he had given and the fact that she had the honour of welcoming one of the nations most prolific speakers in her bakery.

It's a great honour to see you here, Mister Pavanno! I hope you are enjoying the cake and drink. Is there anything else I can help you with?

Charlie noticed Tammy had come out to greet him, no doubt receiving the generous tip that he had given due to the fantastic business and snack that he had moments before. He motioned for her to take a seat, knowing that he had some business to discuss with her, but it was truly up to her, should she want to hear him out on it.

"If you would Tammy, would you like a seat? I wanted to discuss your business and about how I want to help it improve, but also expand into new cities that might welcome a local Bakery."

He waited, knowing that it would be her choice and she would perhaps be mad about him coming to discuss personal details, but he was nothing if not a risk-taker and knew that his nosiness often came in handy, in situations like this though, well he was the one offering and not being offered, the ball was in her court and it made him nervous, due to the fact of not knowing the direction that she could truly go.

looking at the display case with all of the samples.....a svelte girl would get fat here quickly....I walked into Tammy's place and ordered a molten slice anyways, and I wanted to order a whole thing to take back home, as I had forgotten in all of the activity a welcome home to Lollipops and Random from lockup....Hmmm...but what would everyone like was the question. Well the best thing was to get something of everthing I guess, and then everyone would have their choice. I was going to eat the molten cake here first tho , to um test it, so um if it was , well you know. I ordered coffee as well, chocolate and coffee are boosum buddies, you know.

The wind and cold air outside had Samuru feeling the winter chill everyone had warned was coming so he decided to take a break from wondering the streets looking for notorious Durden crew members, looking up and down the street to get his bearings he spots a bakery just a little down the street, making his way over with a brisk walk almost becoming a jog he takes one last inhale of the cigar he had clenched between his teeth and flicks it down the alleyway beside the bakery.

As he enters Samuru can't help but be delighted by the place, the furnishings we're fine indeed and the sweet smell of pastries and cakes left Samuru feeling incredibly satisfied all before he had even tasted anything, just as Samuru made his way to the counter he was greeted by a very polite lady smiling in his direction.

"Hey there, wonderful little place you have here. Can I get a cup of your most british tea and some chocolate cake... also do you do custard with that?"

Samuru was quickly offered a place to sit where he gazed out at the harsh streets whilst waiting for his order.

Charlie shook his head, finding himself coming back here with a small smirk twitching at his lips with a light amusement shining in his eyes. He walked in, although he had found himself again guided by a Waitress to a booth, he smiled, shaking his head with joy brightening his features. He ordered his usual before looking around with a gleam of business shining through, he still had yet to hear from Tammy, regarding his idea, but he knew that being a hand came with responsibilities, as he was once in that position.

He had gotten his snack again, enjoying it to the highest amount that it allowed him too, he leaned back, placing a hand on his stomach with joy, stuffed from the good dessert that he had just devoured in one sitting. He looked over and noticed that the waitress who brought him over, well, she was looking at him with wide eyes, almost as if disbelieving that he had finished all of that in the space of a couple of minutes. He tilted his head with a sheepish smile.

He walked over to her and tipped her a fifty, knowing that she had just wasted her time in preparing the dessert that was to be finished in five minutes only. Charlie walked to the door, before looking back to the waitress with a small smile.

"Give Tammy my best."

He stated with a happy-go-lucky smile and heading back out into the streets of Detroit, still enjoying the feeling of Tammy's sweet baking, but knowing that he would be back for more.

Louis was spending some time in Detroit as a distraction from things in Philly and had been working up a thirst by going from cell to cell freeing some people he knew.  It was with an element of relief that Louis found Tammy’s little bakery still thriving of sorts.  He walked in and cast his memory back to his previous visit here.  The custard he had tried previously was a little lumpy as if prepared by someone who didn’t really appreciate a really good custard.

A waitress greeted him as he looked around for a place to sit and ushered him to a small table by the kitchen.  As she went to hand a menu to Louis, he interrupted her,

“Don’t worry miss, I’d like some apple pie with custard please.  Can I have a black coffee to go with it please…oh…and can I have a lump free custard please?”

The waitress scuttled off.  Louis wondered whether to offer to show the kitchen how to make a good custard.  It would depend on what appeared in front of him.

*Zeitgeist walked into Tammy's bakery, a little hesitantly at first; he knew only three things about Tammy, she was famous for her baking, she was a high stakes dice player, and she was immensely quick on the draw and had killed more than her fair share of Rogue's this was a lady to be respected and honestly, feared. Zeitgeist took some time to peruse the store, paying particular attention to some of the immaculate and artistic cakes that Tammy had beautifully crafted, he noticed the line was subsiding a bit and decided to make his way over to Tammy so he could begin to discuss the particulars of his rather unusual order. Zeitgeist approached the cashier and said...*

Greetings Ms, I was hoping you could assist me. I am looking for a custom cake for a very special occasion and I've flown all the way in from New York specifically to visit your shop as I've been told my almost everyone I meet that you are the best.

*Zeitgeist leans closer to Tammy lower his voice to just above a whisper, he slides a photo discretely across the table towards Tammy*

I need to have a cake made for an associate of mine, that is a picture of his.... well I don't think I need to explain. Would you be able to assist with such an order?

Raylan was rather upset at having been out of country and missed his cousin's birthday party. It happened two full weeks ago and he only wished he could have celebrated with her. It was the first birthday of hers that he's missed in as long as he could remember. He kicked a rock on the sidewalk out of spite and the rock struck a man walking down the side walk. The man was carrying a large crate with both hands and the rock struck his ankle. It cause him to lose balance and down the crate went. Around a dozen large glass bottles of milk hit the ground, shattered and sent milk in all directions. The man screamed out in pain and anger.

Raylan continued to walk with a smile on his face as his frustration had instantly passed. The milk reminder him that his cousin always cherished a cold glass of milk with her birthday cake. With that in mind he would go out and buy her a massive molten chocolate cake and bring ice cold milk. He missed her birthday, but there was no rule stating that he still couldn't celebrate it with her and see her excitement when he gave her a gift.

He found a local bakery quickly and stepped inside. The smell of the wonderful pastries was overwhelming. He was in a state of euphoria as he looked at it all through the glass cases. He smiled as he caught the attention of a staff member. She was busy assisting someone, but at least now she knew that Raylan was there and needed assistance. He needed to order the cake and then make his way to celebrate.

Frank entered Tammy's Bakery looking for cheesecake and earl grey tea.  He wanted a lemon wedge in his tea no sugar he loved his tea that way.  He looked around the place and saw RaylanVilmont and nodded at him.  They were in the same crew but Raylan was a man of honor and Frank was an associate hoping for a come up.  He took his order an sat down as Raylan looked like he was in a hurry.   The waitress brought his order to him and Frank being Frank tipped her well.  She smiled and quickly skipped away.  Frank knows that when you get good service you tip well and watch that service get even better.

Frank sat and slowly ate his cheesecake as he was watching the event unfold out side across the street.  Kids poured a little lighter fluid on some news papers that belonged to a deadbeat news stand owner.  This guy skipped town and then set up shop in another city.  Frank had friends in Detroit and they reached out to him so he could earn some extra cash.  This guy owed a large sum of cash to a few gangsters and his time was up.  The kids tossed a match and the stand went up in flames.  Frank smirked and continued with his cheesecake and hot tea.

Frank looked at the news paper to select his picks for the horse races.  After he made his selections he decided to place his bets so he departed Tammy's and walked to a phonebooth and placed his bets.
