30 Word Story Competition - 150 Credit + Prize Pot! Started by: Mercy_Fiorentino on Sep 18, '20 22:31

Hello!

I'm hosting a competition for you all to participate in, which will hopefully stoke some interest in writing and earn those involved some neat rewards! This event is sponsored by the powers of City Hall, so the prize fund submitted by myself has been doubled!

The idea is simple!

Part 1

Write a 30 word crime story.

- Keep it relevant to our life

- Keep it in line with our rules (checks for plagiarism will be performed and City Hall will be notified)

Points will be scored on:

- How easily the situation is understood

- How compelling, gripping and exciting the story is

- If there's a twist

- Humor

Some examples of my own making below!

Agony in her chest, she cried at hollow attempts to console her broken heart. The barrel of her gun met wide eyes. She knew. Then it was he who wept.

...

He grasped the mans jacket with bleeding fists. A bellow followed and the pair collapsed. A despairing rage built in the eyes of one, the son he cradled closed his.

Part 2

Collaborate with your city and submit a 30 word story about your city.

- Keep it relevant to this day and age

- Submissions must be made by the central district head and clearly indicated that they are the City submission and not your own

Judging

Write a 30 word crime story.

I'll be judging this one myself, so ask you trust my integrity and the fact that if I wanted to give away a bunch of my own credits to my friends, I would just do that. There's no entrance fee, no motivation for me to host this other than to get some creative thoughts flowing. I'll be copying transcripts of the stories you tell here into a personal document and judge them from there, only referring back to who told the story once winners have been decided.

Collaborate with your city and submit a 30 word story about your city.

To avoid any awkwardness in my own city being the best entry + calls of a fix, City Hall have graciously opted to judge this one.

Thanks for Listening!

The competition is open now and entries can be left here, however be sure to "quote" yourself so it's clear what your story is. This competition will close on Sunday 27 September @ 23:59.

30 words in total or, like a certain Dr, 30 unique words to be used in any combination?
Report Post Tip

"Her perfume smelled like hellfire, her kisses were ash.

I had fallen from grace, escorted by her voice.

Now smoke rose to heaven, a moment of quiet before the storm."

The 'Fairest Writing Competition Inc.' would be very interested in co-opting this competition with you.

I'll have the boys back in the office write up a proposal and send it over for you to review.

It is great to see some new people out here offering new outlets for our excellent story tellers.

How easily she had fallen from grace; shunned from this life and disgraced by the elite. Now, with a loaded gun, she'd carve what was rightfully hers from the streets.

Report Post Tip

The newspaper reporter asked me “Any funny stories from my life of crime?” I told him about the time I put a nonce case in a coma. He didn’t laugh.

The night was cold and the air was still
The smoke rose from my pistol like a dragons breath
Never minded the thought of death
This is the first kill
Report Post Tips: 2 / Total: $40,000 Tip

Painful, happiness, sorrow are just some of the thoughts i have when i stare down at my balaclava.

Money, wealth and power is what i feel when it's on.

the only thing sweeter than cash
Is Swansons manliest moustache
ladies drunkenly sing sea shanties
see Swanson and cream their panties
Men and women wish they were him
Hail Swanson, manliest of men

"New to this town, dressed to kill, not a hair out of place, she strolled into the pub turning every drunken, horny man’s wandering eye into a lustful desire."

FFF cared not. New world, Old world he would only do his best. It was his moms last wish.

Did she need to know he was a Mobster. NO!

"He was strong and bold. Dressed to impress.
His family did the dirty work.
Family was everything to him.
In the face of death, he said, Not Today"

Report Post Tip

"Finger stained crimson, clenching a cigarette
Penthouse balcony of a towering minaret.
Cash in his pocket, whiskey in his hands.
Trenchcoat billowing, silent the Detective stands.
Trading his soul at the Don's commands."

I'd also like to submit my own entry to this wonderful event.

“Hard work pays off,” he repeated as the shovel cuts deeper into earth.

Layer upon layer built with determination; now removed.

Hard work for naught. Time for the long sleep.

Report Post Tip

It had been an epic battle. Groaning, doubled over and clutching his stomach, he knew the end was near. Then, with a plop and a wet splash, it was over.

Report Post Tip

Cold metal left hot upon a soft bed of fibers. Acrid drifting smoke.

Dark. A crunch as it splits. Light. Crumbling down and dotting the ground. Powdered sugar.

Gun, Canoli.

Report Post Tips: 1 / Total: $20,000 Tip

He made sure to check his gun, a bullet was all he needed.

The vehicle pulled up towards the alleyway.

He aimed down sights, a few rounds finding their target.

Report Post Tips: 4 / Total: $80,000 Tip
His moustache shiny, full bodied and strong.

Green with envy pulling the trigger. Aiming for his head, his moustache glistened.

Blood trickles down.

You are dead, Jono!

Wack back. Typical.
Report Post Tips: 2 / Total: $120,000 Tip

I guess prepositions count too. Kindly disregard my previous entry. I'm resubmitting the edited version to get it under 30 words.

Trenchcoat billowing, silent the Detective stands.
