Is this Justice or is this Madness? Started by: Meerkat on Jun 27, '26 20:16
In light of the recent purgings.
I am putting a reward out for justice.

Hi I go by the name Madness on here.
For anyone that doesn’t know me, I’m the one that has been keeping Durdens around for the last 1-2 months straight, with over 10+ spawns in a row.
The country is now left with over 5k+ bodyguards in each city, a long drought before any more Durdens will be around.

Instead of wasting my resources on any more spawns, I am giving them to anyone who makes a kill from the list below.

Bjorn - 1000 credits

Knowing who shot your member down in cold blood and taking no action to honour them is just as bad as doing the shooting yourself.

There is currently $500 million dollars on the hitlist for the head of @Bjorn
Keep in mind that you will also receive whatever amount is on the hitlist at the time of killing

Please provide proof of kill to receive payment.

Donations to this cause will be accepted and reward will be amended in this thread below.

Thank you and happy shooting

Does the price get higher the longer he’s alive? Something like John Wick?

Whatever your feelings towards Bjorn, as a user, does this whole situation not make you feel uncomfortable?

Whatever your feelings towards Bjorn, as a user, does this whole situation not make you feel uncomfortable?

Yes. It's uncomfortable knowing there are people here pathetic and petty enough to pull shit like this.

Report Post Tip

Yes, but I guess I already knew that.

It was more that we've effectively allowed money/credits to create a protected class of user. The rich class, who can cause grief to those who have played the game to reach the top, regardless of their current standing within it.

I completely agree on that side of it as well DetroitSimon.

Cash is king.

What are you two crying about..? If you find anything about this thread post uncomfortable you should check yourself.

This is a mafia role playing game yes? And aren’t you both in a solid position of power on this game? So you would assume that you would have some kind of knowledge or understanding about how “this world of ours” operates yes?

Yea. Cash is King, Money Talks.
You drop a ball full of money to a shooter and he’s gonna run with it and take a shot. So one would think this game would reflect that being no different also.

This game has money/cash and credits as its form of main currencies.

The hitlist only has an option to post hits for money/cash not credits, so this thread was no different to putting a hit on the hitlist just with the games other form of currency.

What’s the point in having a hitlist on this game if people have a cry about posting hits on it…

While we’re on this topic, someone should post in the game suggestions forum to add credits as an option for rewards when posting on the hitlist.

My issue with this is not so much 'cash is King', it's the manner in which it's currently being utilised. This is the second instance that I have seem a situation like this occur, where a hit was offered outside of the hit market.

The hitlist is controlled, it plays fair, offering a limit to the values, plus giving the target an opportunity to buy off the value. Consider it a 'race against time'. The problem is when there is zero counterplay, it shows something is broken.

If we wanna add credits, sure, I see no issue with that. However it should be splattered on the hitlist, meaning that the one placing the hit, is charged immediately and the target is then if offered the same chance to try and buy it off, regardless of value.

First for me personally though, I don't think adding credits to the hit market is a good route, considering the roleplay aspect of monetary values.

People are so weird when they engage in topics in OOC. This is intended for user-to-user discussion regardless of current game position. There is no "crying", I asked a question and explained my feelings as a user regardless of my character's current standing - doubtless my character feels differently - and therefore there is no need for me to "check myself" for using a forum for its intended purpose.

You've also missed the point entirely. The game is supposed to reward progression. If you put time in, your character gets stronger. Every mechanism within the game is structured in this manner; you have to build up your skills over time through continued playing of the game. What we are now witnessing here is someone bypass that entirely by using credits and thus defeating the purpose of the game. I don't object to the hitlist being used, it is the means by which the funds are obtained to do so which is in question and for me, there should never be an avenue to circumvent the actual playing of the game by using money.

If you can point to some real world examples where civilians put multiple hits out on Dons, then I'll take your argument in relation to realism seriously. In the absence of this evidence, the proposition that a nobody can dictate to the powerful of the criminal underworld remains completely unrealistic and contrary to the ethos of the game.

Dearest scales

Nobody's crying, we were discussing the consequences of what's happened. I'm sure we both assumed that was fairly obvious but seeing as you appear to be struggling to keep up, I'll give you the benefit of the doubt.

This is a mafia role playing game

Yes. Thank you for explaining the game to people who have been playing it long enough to, as you put it, "reach positions of power" however I don't recall any of us saying we didn't understand how money, contracts or the hitlist work.

The point, and I'll go slow for you this time, wasn't how the mechanic works. The point was whether it's healthy for the game that someone with enough accumulated wealth can continue dictating events long after they've stopped competing. You can agree or disagree with that but pretending the discussion is "why does the hitlist exist?" just makes you look like a teeny tiniest bit silly.

And seeing as you're so passionate about adding credits to the hitlist, here's the Suggestions forum link:

https://mafiareturns.com/comm/forum/suggestions/

Rather than telling anyone what they "should" post, you could always spend thirty seconds posting it yourself. Revolutionary idea, I know.

People are often told if you want change to rank up and do something about it. Well hitlist is a way to do something about it. Anonymous means the hit just doesn't disappear because the hitlistee managed to shoot the right person. No complaints here about it and no complaints about crowd funding credits for it either since clearly more than one person wanted the target dead. Guess they made some enemies along the way.

No one complains when they use credits for Durden spawn after Durden spawn. Why are we complaining about this?

Report Post Tips: 4 / Total: $260,000 Tip

The hitlist creates a put up or shut up option. And last I checked credits can be converted to cash. And since the hitlist uses cash there is no need to modify anything. You either put up or shut up.

Credits create a out of character type scenario to hitlist someone and is basically a player attack not a character attack

Did you read either of the posts preceding yours before replying or just choose to ignore them? The reasons why this is contrary to the ethos of the game have already been set out but for transparency they were:

  1. Lack of realism
  2. Circumventing the principle of the game

Your comparison is also a false equivalence which is why no-one typically complains about an ostensibly positive action (a Durden spawn) rather than a negative one (an OOC kill list) even though they both involve credits.

Are you actually fine with users making OOC threads offering money to kill other users they feel have wronged them or are you just happy because it was Bjorn being targeted this time?

Report Post Tips: 2 / Total: $420,000 Tip

You will never control what people do outside of the game. They could offer rl money to friends, for a shot in game you can't control it. Players often use offline means to organize rogue is this really that much different? It gives more people the option to contribute if they also want the same change.

As for realism, the game already lacks it in the form of say distance because irl if you shot someone with a bullet in one city you could do it the same in another, the gun doesnt suddenly malfunction because you traveled somewhere else in the country or world.   So I mean there are aspects at play that aren't realistic.

Report Post Tip

Those are compromises to realism for gameplay purposes, none of which oppose the fundamental principle of effort = reward. Do you not think there is a pretty big difference between attempting to control what people do outside of the game versus providing a mechanism that allows them to circumvent the principle of the game?

For me, I think we have lost our way and the lines between real money, credits, the in-game economy and separation of user and character have disappeared. I guess seeing that so starkly outlined in this thread just made me pull this face:
