The ak47 is miles ahead of the m16. Really, the ak47 is THE war weapon. Since the US changed the m16 back when soldiers complained about it in vietnam the m16 got loads better but the ak47's reliability will always trump the m16. 

I'd go with a AK-47

Hmm...forgive me for I am no expert on weapons but I don't even know why this question was asked to begin with -  considering that the M-16/M4/A2/A4 is available to civilians only on a limited basis with alot of government paperwork and approvals. 

From my experience being in the Army, we started off with the A2's which were heavy and bulky to me (then again I'm rather weak as a female so anything is heavy to me xD)

We switched over to the A4's and I'll admit it's alot easier to manage, so it really depends on what model advancement you're talking about. :)

I remember everytime I trained, I'd get bruises on my inner shoulder too :(

I'd go with ak47. If you know how to handle it properly, especially the recoil, ak has great accuracy and deadly fire!
