After the recent debate in the m16 vs ak-47 thread, i deicded to make a new thread dedicated to fire arms discussion and questions.

For thoes who don't know im very big into weapons, training, and knowledge.

I've taken classes at black water, and im a gunners mate in the coast guard.

Feel free to ask any question you want OR start a debate or discussion on differnt firearms.

I persnally perfer ar-15, and 1911 style firearms. I conceal carry a 1911 most often but i switch it up with glock and springfield xd as well.

I perfer .45 out of all but i don't discrimnate, more about shot placement then shot power.

Is there a known black market (not the ghetto market) where I can buy a gun without the regulation of licenses?

I want to purchase a hand gun for home defense. What makes a good purchase to dispatch an intruder, while being relatively quiet and cheap? I don't want to wake up the neighbors.
Report Post Tip
Osmosis can you give me a few more details on where you live?

Lucky- there isn't really going to be a gun that won't "wake the neighbors" per say, unless you employ a surrpesor of sorts but i wouldn't reccomond that.

My home defense pistol is a springfield xd .45 ACP tactical with a streamlight light/laser attachement. I perfer the .45 for home defense due to its surpreme stoping power and notted reliability. I choose the xd tac because it has a 5 inch barrel for home defense id go with any 9mm, or 45 with 4-5 inch barrel a light is good. Some say a light gives your postion away but just because its there doesnt mean you have to use it. Any pistol made by, sig, glock, springfield, colt, kimber. I reccomnd highly from persenal expereince.

The reason i said i dont reccomnd using a surpresor on a home defense weapon? Sure it will save your hearing from the deafing sound of a gun being fired in doors, less muzzle flash BUT if you do have to go to court over the shooting, be it from charges from police or being sued by said dead bad guys family. Which will look worse. The suspect was shot by the home owner and his .45, or The suspect was shot by a crazed hitman who had a "evil silencer" attached to his high capicty pistol.

Well I guess this is a very broad question but I have recently started looking to buy a Glock for conceal carry. I also would like to use it for home defense use. Is there a glock that is good for both? I would like to get a .45 for its stopping power. I have never owned a gun before so I am fairly new to this. I do plan on taking a regular gun course and a conceal carry course.

I know they make compact and sub-compact for conceal carry but I am a fairly stocky guy bout 6'3 250lbs and I wear rather comfortable/baggy clothes. So do you think a regular size gun would be to bulky to conceal?

Do you have any other gun makers you would prefer over glocks? I'm looking to spend no more then $500-$600.

Glock 21 is a very good .45 ACP. Easy to conceal and still good for home defense. I my 1911 is the same size if not a bit bigger then a glock 21 and i conceal it easily. I wear semi tight/loose shirts and no one has ever noticed when i carried. Glocks are very good firearms, but id reccomnd looking into sprignfield Xd's and any 1911 you can spend 300-500 for an xd and 500-600 for a 1911. All models are avliable in .45 ACP. Any other questions please ask.

And if your a fairly big guy i woulnd't even worry about compact or sub compact go for service model or full size.

And just look for good inside the pants holsters, good leather holsters, galco and serpa. Any inside the pants holster will conceal very nicely.

These are some of the laws in PA.

Rifles and Shotguns

Permit to purchase rifles and shotguns? No.

Registration of rifles and shotguns? No.

Licensing of owners of rifles and shotguns? No.

Permit to carry rifles and shotguns? No.

Handguns

Permit to purchase handgun? No.

Registration of handguns? No.

Licensing of owners of handguns? No.

Permit to carry handguns? Yes. A permit is required if concealed.

So it is pretty lax compared to a lot of other states, you dont need a permit to buy a handgun or rifle, just to carry it concealed id reccomnd going to a few shops or gun shos in your area.

I like the Desart eagle and p90
Report Post Tip
You like the desert eagle, i can only guess you play a lot of video games.
Report Post Tip
Isn't a Desert eagle what captains of the army and other military Branches carry?
Report Post Tip
No, absoultly not, the desert eagle is a gun pretty much made for the movies, no one who is interested in self preservation would use one in any self defense, home defense scenrenio.
Report Post Tip
Hows the Smith&Wesson .357 for defense? ...just a great looking gun.
Report Post Tip
The .357 is a good choice for self defnese, it being a revovler has utter reliability, and a good perk of a .357 is you can shoot the cheaper load .38 special for self defense out of the same gun.
Report Post Tip
Premier, what kind of gun should a single woman living alone in the middle of nowhere have?
