As The Pig Sees It - The WTF Edition Started by: Hi on Oct 13, '08 01:10
Hi steps out into the streets of Los Angelos and looks up and down the streets. The porcine gentleman is disgusted with seeing criminal activity like he has never seen it before since La Cosa Nostra came to this country. A Gangster comes running out of a 7-11 yelling "WOO HOO!" at the top of his lungs. Hi punches him in the face and watches him drop to the ground.

Just what in the fuck is going on here?

Yes, I'm disgusted. Yes, I am speaking out against a ruling made by a council of family leaders who represent cities across the country. I am doing this, because I honestly believe they have lost their minds.

It was a week ago that war ravaged La Cosa Nostra. Measures were taken afterwards to ensure that we could rebuild and prosper as a society once more, and these certainly were wise actions to take. Marietta showed her ingenuity by organizing her troops to protect potential future mobsters, even though they were nothing but street gangsters at the time. Our leaders were harsh, going so far as to rub out their own family members for killing a nobody. All of this was good, and in the interest of protecting the future of La Cosa Nostra.

But...

It seems that this trend has now gone too far. There are now several families sprouting up to replace the fallen leaders of the recent past. There are several jobs out there for criminals breaking into the business. It is time for La Cosa Nostra to once again rule the criminal enterprise of this country, or so you would think. The fact is, that our leaders are taking measures to move us in the opposite direction. If we wish for the mafia to rule the land, then why are we allowing UNORGANIZED crime to proliferate? This thing of our is about banding together as families and working together to evade law enforcement and protect each other. It is not about unaffiliated criminals running around working for themselves. That entire concept is REPUGNANT to the ideology of organized crime. We should not be promoting this activity, we should be ridding our streets of it. Any crime being done on a Bosses' turf is infringing on the business interests of the Family. The petty thief needs to pay tribute to the Boss, join the family, or go for a swim and never come back.

These mamalukes can now peddle all the drugs they want for five days before any of the Enforcers will even look at them suspiciously. FIVE DAYS?!?!?!? Hell, they could move to the Bahamas and retire with all the loot they can make in five days, if they are not paying tribute to a family.

What is the purpose of La Cosa Nostra these days? Is it for protection of our own kind? Hell no! You don't even have to join a family to receive the protection of a family. I remember listening to the old wiseguys when I was a kid. They would joke around at lunchtime, calling the working men and petty criminals "suckers" for breaking their backs to earn their livings. Now who is the sucker? It might be the mobster...when you can earn more money and get the same protection, without even having to pay tribute to the Boss.

This new attitude seems to be expanding. Why, just today I saw a Gangster walking brazenly down the street, sporting a tattoo that said "Protected by Marietta". Ok, I thought, this is one of the guys that our good Don of Detroit took under her wing during a crisis. The only problem here...is that the guy has been snubbing the Families for almost a week now, wearing that tattoo as a shield...

When our city leaders made this ruling, I think they were considering only a single purpose - to protect future prospects. I do not think they considered how antithetical this idea would be to the traditions and values that have been a part of this thing of ours from the beginning. The values? Family, of course. And loyalty to a family. And respect for the Boss of your family. In order to protect these interests, sometimes a mother fucker has to die. It is a harsh business we are in.

I think our leaders should reassess their decision, and think about more than protecting the bums who scoff at the concept of "Family". Our future depends on teaching the younger generation the importance of Family. This is not accomplished when they are learning that joining one is optional for an extended period of time. It is the responsibility of those in charge to carry on the traditions that our ancestors brought over from the Old Country. Family, Loyalty, Respect, and Omerta. La Cosa Nostra is about Family, not about unaffiliated Gangsters running around working for themselves.

Hi wanders off, shaking his head and kicking a can down the street

I totally agree, the war has been done for a while, it is time for the old rules to kick in, there are enough families out here to protect these gangsters, if they choose not to join anyone after the 48 hours that's their problem not the communities!
Report Post Tip
I agree with Hi on this one.

Chilli claps in amazement about what he just heard

I agree wholeheartedly. I even spoke about it when Cab_tufting came by and gave the speech about change. I am glad to see I am not the only one that sees this...

The way things are going.. maybe not now but in the future it might lead to another war. I remember when I was a civilian and the reasons Branston and the rest waged war... this thing of ours changed and it needed change. Things are good now but if it goes for too long I fear it might lead to another war for the same reason.

Not disrespecting any of the bosses. I know what their rule is on this and I wont step out of line. Just saying though. People have it too easy now and its getting more strict on the members constantly in fear of what they do for fear of being whacked.

Charlie listens to the wise man speak and motivated by the speech states his own thoughts

You know Hi, I agree with you completely. What has happened, when at times like these a gangster Mafioso can around the street bragging about how many shots have missed on them, because the decent guns were afraid to shoot and be punished for doing so? I can understand the idea of the laws enforced. I think it was meant to improve community activity, but I tell you, when my great great grand pappy first reached the shores and was introduced to the La Cosa Nostra, he was given twenty four hours to get into a family and in those days, invites weren't sent out to Civilians, they had to have their cards lined up if they didnt and they reached the gangster status? They were shot down within minutes without question, and you know what? My bloodline still roams the streets today, in the background just trying to make a dollar here and there. As much as I understand the concept of extra protection, in the overall aspect of things, it gives the oppurtunity for trouble makers to train their weapon in the background, and take pot shots here and there. Granted, their lack of aim will most likely be the factor of them missing, but there is always that chance a stray bullet might plug one of your own. A pretty hefty price to pay just for the sake of ensuring safety for those who just arrived. I say a bullet in the ass creates enough curiousity for a bloodline to return to the shores just as much as criming for days upon end without a family and not learning a thing. If they get plugged, I bet their son or daughter will be asking for assistance much quicker than their ancestors. I mean roaming aimlessly is too much of a risk of those you swore to protect, just to save a couple lives, of course that is just my opinion. I totally understand the purpose like I have said, but I just think with the room that has been made possible, if they can't figure out to ask for assistance then maybe their gene pool can.

Puts his smoke out on the bottom of his shoe and leans against a brick wall to listen to the remaining responses

Times have been changing. Now while 5 days is a lot is it really that bad to give people more time to find a good family that they like. The whole point of doing 2 leaders per city was to give new people a chance to make a decision on who they wish to be with. Not just who has room. While 5 days is quite a while it's still needed for some people to find out which leader they wish to be a part of.
Report Post Tip
And WHY should we be dismissing everything La Cosa Nostra stands for just to give some street punk these luxuries?

Seriously...
Report Post Tip
thank you hi.....you reminded me that i need to pay my weekend tribute to the boss its my goal to pay a little somthing to the CL at the end of every week
Report Post Tip
Charlie over hears Thomas's response and joins back into discusion

So your saying it takes 5 days for someone to decide who they want to join? When in reality the only thing someone can really learn is based off what is said in the street. Unless of course they speak with leadership within the families to learn about them. Even then I doubt it would take 5 days to do just that. It's become a common agreement that 48 hours is plenty of time to find themselves a good home, especially when they are hounded with invite requests like I was when I first joined these shores. In the end the family I am with now are the ones who chose to assist me rather than hound me, so that's who I chose. They have an oppurtunity to get with someone within 48 hours, if they get shot, then when their bloodline returns to ask the reason why it had happened. Then those they ask explain the reason behind it and then wham, lesson learned, now they will make it an effort to make their decision making quickly.

Yes it's great to help people, yes it is wonderful that they can spend days upon end doing absolutely nothing and be spared, but everyone's new bloodline has learned the hard way. Changing it does nothing more than give oppurtunity for trouble. CL's in recent time made it a point to send out helpful instructions to the new blood on how things work in these cities. That has seemed to go away, maybe more vocal activity will assist more than letting them wander the streets lost. Giving them protection for free, isn't the way things work in our Mafia. You deal drugs on my corner, then you better be paying me. You extort liqour marts and rob old ladies on my block, you better pay up, that's how the view should be. At least that's how I feel. I could be totally wrong here, but it just seems were trying to hard. Run things with a hard hand, and teach these Mafioso how a real crime organisation works.

I'm not complaining. I just imagine a world where too much protection may teach our young how to be more of a gentlemen than a gangster.

Listens to CHarliescene finish... he decides to voice his opinion

You know just the other day I had some fucking civilian tell me that as soon as he gets a gun he is gonna shoot me. I wasn't having any of this... so of course the fucker was dealth with... the point is though I believe the civilians and those coming up have it easy. I mean I am thinking to myself this motherfucker has the fucking balls to tell me that? Not saying I am someone important like the boss but come on me compared to a fucking civilian. It is like they aint scared anymore.

The pressure to find a family isn't there. Our things thrives on competition... it brings out the best in us. It gives us the will to survive.

I sincerely believe we dont need more than 3 days at most to join a family.

Zoey rummaged through her purse and found her flask. Instead of alcohol it contained a healing concoction that a traveling salesman promised would make her calm, cool and collected. She took a few drinks of it while she listened to Hi's speech. She hoped the concoction worked as she talked.

When I first heard of this five day policy I thought it was interesting. I'm open minded and don't mind change as long as it doesn't differ too much from the founding principals of this thing of ours.

As I thought about this new rule some more I had mixed feelings about it. I understand the point of giving new guys fresh off the boat a chance to look around. Sometimes on their first day here they might fall down and get a bump on their heads that puts them in a coma for a few days. Under the old rule if they woke up after forty eight hours they got popped.

Pow! Dead! Dead! Dead! Dead! Dead!

Zoey felt like the few sips she had of the concoction wasn't working good enough. She drank more.

Pardon my little outburst.

She smiled at the crowd and continued talking.

The biggest problem I have with the new rule is it goes against the values of family and loyalty, but Hi already covered that so I won't repeat what he already said.

Zoey paused to take another drink from her flask. She felt like the concoction was finally working.

Allowing Gangsters to frolic unsponsored for five days seems disrespectful to the leaders and families who run the seven cities. The unsponsored Gangsters are not kicking up any money to a boss, but they are protected like they are a member of a family. It just doesn't make any sense to me why that much protection is given to people who act like they don't know what everyone else in the world knows, if you are in the mafia you should be in a family.
Report Post Tip
All right short answer for Hi.

They are the future. What's an extra 3 days? You the man whose bloodline has always made statements of gun toting idiots not being able to holster their guns. Complaining about waiting an extra 72 hours before killing everyone?

Now for the long answer...

48 hours is not a lot for some people. Maybe they spent their first few hours here then goto bed, and when they do wake up they stay at home and not venture into the streets. So 48 hours is not always enough. 5 days gives everyone plenty of time to find a good family. And remember, once they hit Goomba they are fair game. So in 5 days if you are in the streets every day then they will have a visit from the godfather declaring them a Goomba.

This new system has only been implied as of two nights ago. So you aren't even giving the idea 5 days. Let's see how it goes. Before you begin to judge a new system.
Report Post Tip
Hey Thomas, before you make a rebuttal, why don't you make sure it accurately addresses the points I made?

I never complained about waiting an extra three days. You are completely missing the point, and that is very disturbing to me. It is disturbing because you are ignoring the VERY BASIC PRINCIPLES that this thing of ours is about! This tells me that perhaps you do not understand what this thing of ours is about, which makes me wonder what in the fuck you are doing in the business.

I said that this idea is repugnant to the ideology of La Cosa Nostra. We are about Family and ORGANIZED crime, not individuality and DISORGANIZED crime.

I am trying to make a point that allowing unaffiliated mobsters to run wild in our streets goes against the entire purpose of La Cosa Nostra.

You are the mobster whose primary concern is making a comfy existence for those who steal food off our table and scoff at our way of life.

Are you a mobster, or what are you?
Report Post Tip
Perhaps I mistook the deeper roots of this rant. Now a real mobster shouldn't care about other that are going about their business. This is up to the family HEAD to decided how new faces act. And they decree that 5 days is the time. Now as long as your turf is untouched, who gives a shit if they are in a family. They aren't stealing anything from YOU, so don't get your knickers in a twist over them running around for 5 days. They're has always been people who prefer to be small time crooks. Maybe their family just needed a loaf of bread to get them through till their next paycheck. Maybe a life of crime isn't for them. So let them have their little crimes, it's not hurting anyone. If we are going to make a big deal out of everyones little "acts against what we stand for" Half of the population should be killed for being a raging idiot. And at least another quarter for other fuck ups. This world is made up of all types of people. And if someone wants to go at it by themselves without getting any family support. That is their own problem. That is their loss of protection in every way. You cannot succeed properly without a family.

So really? 5 days will screw up everything we stand for? I think not. They can steal all the food they want. As long as it's not the food of my family, they can do it all they like.
Report Post Tip
"Maybe the life of crime isn't for them. So let them have their small crimes."

Charlie over hears Thomas's return of response and jumps back into debate

First of all, that is a bit of a oxymoron you think? Second of all if the life of crime isn't for them, then this is the wrong place to be. Our cities are controlled by crime, always will be. You try to take that away, you take away the very purpose we are here. The principal is this, they crime on our streets, they live by our rules, granted the rules have been adjusted as of late, we have no control of that. I do think though, in these circumstance, other Mafioso's within the community are not going to favor those who wander rather than work, to have the same protection a family provides, and in a way, even more protection than we have ourselves. At least that's the way it looks. We come to a family for protection and purpose, and it does not take 5 days to do that. It's a nice thing to implement, for a nice world. Not many of us are too freindly though are we? If you try and say that we should be happy go lucky Mafioso who hand out tot bags and serve those who come to this shore with kisses and presents rather than give them a bit of tough love to harden their edges, then well, what kind of leadership are we possibly setting up for the future? Those who rather have picnics, or those who snatch the fuckers basket to feed themselves? We do what we do because we are organised criminals, there is nothing organised about hoodlums running amok laughing about not being touched.
Report Post Tip
Well if that is the case it is up to the leaders of that city to put their city under lockdown. Don't want the people their lock them out.
Report Post Tip
Someone please lock Thomas out.

He keeps sneaking into my room and I don't like the things he's doing.

On the other hand let's consider if being unsponsored was the default until becoming made man. Now there's an interesting concept.

Presumably you wouldn't judge it before trying it.
Report Post Tip
Whilst I agree with the opening post that this 5 day rule is ridiculous, surely the likes of Hi and Zoey should know better than to run to the streets voicing their concerns in public, as opposed to the alternative of having a discreet word with their respective bosses about their feelings. No?

It seems to me that certain Mafia traditions are only being applied when it suits.

Excellent, I seem to have started a bit of a debate, discussion, shout-down; call it what you will. Sadly I do not have time to address all the points raised here at the moment.

I will return in a few hours and address you all.

In a slightly related note, myself and my bloodline have always been the vocal opposition of the forty eight hour rule. Not because I want to rack up notches on my gun barrel without waiting an additional day, but because I felt the rule protected those who scorned our way of life. Such a practise seemed, to me and my forebears, counter-productive at the least, and downright idiotic at the worst.

Naturally then, it may be assumed that I was even more affronted by this general situation we find ourselves in. Not quite. For one, I have trust in the current leadership. These are the individuals who were smart (or lucky) enough to survive the war, and all are blooded individuals; people who have been around long enough to steer our thing in a positive direction, I feel.

Secondly, we find ourselves in a situation which doesn't conform to our stilted vision of normality, and the solution to this problem - namely the protection scheme - have been intuitive, bright measures to mirror the current situation. That is, the leaders have been thinking outside the box.

However, I do find myself agreeing with Hi despite this. Whilst it is a welcomed, or even necessary change to sometimes deviate from the strict and unwavering path of organisation, it should never be a sustained move.

Having said that, I do think you, Hi, know that there may have been more efficient ways to bring up your complaints, especially being a Right Hand Man. But what do I know? I'm just an earner! :|
