Considering I'm being questioned about it I'll take it as a yes to Frijj's question :) Simply put, I want it gone because it makes no sense for a crew leader who is suppose to protect her members to kill them for killing someone who was unsponsored and working on a leader's turf. |

This may have been asked already, but I've never seen it and it's something I've always been curious about. If you want the accounts under 48 hours protected why not code them like civis and thugs, too young to be shot at? |

"Back when you 'loved this game' those was no such rule and you did not mail under 48 hour Gangster offering them help just because you were bold." I remember being unsponsored for weeks on end and people didn't pop shots at me, back in the day... but now, it's a different mentality. People are vultures and will kill old friends just to get another kill. |

It is a different world but thats what Ganelon complained about and wanted it to change back to? It never will as long as we coddle the new ones. Why should someone operate on a Dons turf without paying a tribute? If you do not affiliate yourself with someone then that is your own choice and your own risk. As it is the new ones recieve more mails and bible tips than we used to recieve and it is made plainly obvious that you must find a crew to survive. |

I can understand both viewpoints here. It doesn't seem to make sense to give these people carte blanche; however if new players try to play this game and can't stay alive long enough to get an inkling of what is going on you're not going to get any new players and the game will stagnate. Then again, you can punish these people for operating on your turf without killing them. Have your boys keep an eye on the locals. If people who are unwelcome show up you don't need to call the hit squad. Call the mug squad! Follow these guys around and mug them into submission. Be sure to include relevent communications to them at the same time - let them know what is happening to them and why - if they respond disrespectfully, well then you have all the justification you need to blow their danged heads off! Just a thought... |

"Why should someone operate on a Dons turf without paying a tribute?" To be honest, the times, I've been shot at when unsponsored, it was be an assailant who didn't represent the boss of the local family. |

| You win some. You lose more. Rules can be made to counteract that but the under 48 hour rule is now redundant in my eyes. | |

| Zoey as a player and someone who has quite a lot of influnce in the game right now, the 48 hour rule is something you can abolish altogether if you wanted to. The defence may be still high, so that would serve as a warning to hitters, but I guess it's down to the players whether we want the 48 hour rule there or not, not the admins. Unless they decide to step in and do something so we have 48 hour civillians. | |

I like this post lets you debate alot. Like where you can only shoot once per hour, now I wanna know what mobster made that rule up. I was thinking that's why they bought Tommy gun's so they can shoot more not less and and if your shot at you get four hour's of protection. Now when did mobster's start handing that out to each other. Like oops sorry shit dude I didn't mean to miss you. How about you go sit on the side line for 4 hours. We will keep fighting this war. When your time is up You get first shot to shoot at us and maybe if were lucky we will shoot at you before your missed by your guy and we hand you another 4 hours protection. I guess the thing is you got the best mobster's with the environment you was given. 48 hour rule that should be a give-me I mean come on. If not fuck why don't we just shoot them soon as they come off the boat. I mean shit they know they should be in a family. Who cares if we don't give them time to find one. One of the best line's I heard to support this was something like. My guy's are dieing cause they fail to check targets and shoot sponsored one's. It's not there fault there not responsible hitter's its the people's for joining. The other debate, what was it? Oh yeah The falling family. ah whatever there. Maybe that one should be ran from family to family. If you chose to kill them all kill them all. If you seen one or two you liked and want to recruit hey I say do that also. but you hardly ever see more than one family fight in the war. Example: If Tom is taking out Jim. Mary, and Jane hardly ever fight or join in. So maybe the victor should choose what happens to them. Not Mary joining in after the war going nooo don't kill them all. Hell if you felt that way why didn't you join and try to save them. I guess that would be putting your nose in other business. I think you should be shot for that too but that's besides the point lol. In the end. This game is one of the closest Mafia game's around but still has alot involved that wasn't mafia. So it's hard to give you a full Mafia experience. I mean let's face it if you break Omerta here today. You will be back again. In the real world if you broke it you didn't come back. So i'm guessing there is no need to follow it. What do you have to lose right lol. |

Also, I don't think it's right we should compare this to the old .org, it just simply isn't the same place, so much has changed that we need to move on from comparing to .org. It's just too different. |

Well, if your subversive and the boss finds out and kills you, you have the option of coming back, but will he outright trust you again, the same goes for betraying the secrets of your family. This is a game, it's not real life, and some facets of real life Cosa Nostra, we'll never be able to integrate. Ex.) You kill someone because he knows too much. He can simply make a new account and start flapping his gums. Nothing within the games mechanics can prevent this from happening. |

| I couldn't agree more Sal. I think Omerta should be held up to the full but as in real life I see this game doesn't either. I mean lets face it. There was some real guy's that broke the Omerta in the mafia. So of course its going to happen in a game. | |

Right now, it seems that we're debating about the conditions we put ourselves under. I think we should be debating, the kind of players/people we're going to be. Regardless if we can the 48 hour or not. Is it in our best interest to gundown the unsponsored, because they are unsponsored. Ask Kendra, Ask Scotland or tita, what it takes to get to Godfather, or even Ellis or tiggy who had it be a razor's edge. It takes friends, it takes allies, numerous contacts. I've learnt you lose more friends than naught with your trigger finger. So consider your actions and how they'll weigh in the grand scheme, days, weeks and months down the road. |

I don't mean to repeat anyone, but:
Now-a-days, people will do ANYTHING, or close to, to work up their gun. The sad thing is, thats not realistic at all. However, thats a part of this game that the community can recognize MR as being unique. Also, the 1-shot-per-hour. Its a MR thing.
This little bit, and many more are hardly enforced/recognized in Modern MR. Because the old Mafia (real mafia) is too complex to turn into a user interface. It involves many more things, and so, it was called organized crime. BECAUSE, you had to be organized to handle the shitload of crime work that your family was doing. Now, I have a suggestion. Perhaps its possible to de-structure MR, and make it more User-Operated. In most ways, it would become more realistic. Such as, Families/Crews. People didn't join the mafia with total strangers, they started it as family (or close friends). People that they could trust. And they didn't look for more people, because more people would cause more notice by the cops. Also, people weren't automatically identified with a certain family, like the way our profile's are set up, and the Family Head didn't know when someone left the family. (He didn't have a flashing DL to tell him someone left). He had to do ALOT for his family. And, in turn, the family earned interest for him. |

A few of these comments are suggesting to make the place more like that other place (.org). In case you have not noticed, that place has gone to shit. There are some things which may not be realistic, but are desirable for improved gameplay. Shooting once per hour, for example, is nice because it allows an opportunity for retaliation. Anytime you try to kill someone, there should be a danger involved. Same thing with the four hours of protection. If you could just blast and blast at them until they died, where would be the challenge? What should be realistic is how we conduct our business, but some things must remain unrealistic for enhanced gameplay. If you really want things to be more realistic, start with the things players have control over, like how we run our cities, our families, and conduct business. Those things are in a sad state right now as far as resembling the mafia, which is why this thread has evoked such a strong reaction from many of the old school crowd. |

I see no problem with a "48 hour rule," per se. I honestly think people want it gone so they may train their gun quicker and use it as an excuse to wack more which seems ridiculous in my opinion. If it is in place in order to cut down on the click-monkey wack training we have in place these days, then I'm all for it. Is there another reason it exists, Ganelon? |

I don't. I want it gone so people actually put some effort into getting a invite and not thinking the world owes them something. There are enough targets out and about without needing these. Add in the extra protection they recieve from the Gods and only those with a already trained gun will be able to hit them. Lower skilled hitters would have no chance in my eyes. |

Seriously though, how many people ACTUALLY put an effort into getting an invitation these days short of mobmailing their leader friend with a "Hey it's me, can I have an invite please?" or a quick IRC PM? I don't think it has as much of an effect on "effort" as it does for helping the inexperienced. I like to believe that the rule is in place so that new players unfamiliar with the system have a chance to login within that 24-48 hour period and not get blatantly killed by wackers. I have been guilty of executing countless mafiosos in the olden days as soon as they passed the 24 hour mark and become gangster. How many 48+ hour unsponsoreds live after logging in past their 48+ hour mark? Very few. How many 24+ hour unsponsored mafiosos get killed as soon as they turn 48+ hours? Very many. They both get gunned down as quickly as possible. Removing the rule in place will only speed up the process for their deaths. I also don't believe there are "enough targets" or else we would never hear the complaints about ia-racing or ia-hunting that exist within our society. I still believe removing the rule in place will just speed up the wack-training that exists too freely in our game today. |
