The Future of Philadelphia Started by: Mako on Jul 16, '14 00:54

Maria runs into a cafe across the street while lronsight is busy chastising iocaste and buys every crispy, cooked rasher of bacon they have available. As lronsight turns away from iocaste to concern himself with ChrisPalko and his offer of protective clothing, Maria throws iocaste the bacon.

Whilst I agree that limiting the cities to be occupied, I can't help but feel that Philadelphia shouldn't be one of them. Selfishly, it holds a place in my heart as well as it being one of those cities which benefits being closer to NY. However, with ties from NY spread over maybe having someone closer isn't that important anymore and the cost of relocation isn't worth it (saying that I'm sure the "MoneyTeam" have enough!)

I do remember New Orleans suffered a similar fate, in which we lost a great city, so I guess I should just move with the times.

Farewell Philly.
Report Post Tip

Forget Philly, we need to work on getting more pointless districts in the cities we already have. A fourth for LA, I say.

Report Post Tip

We wont lose Philly, though. The Gods seem to have no desire to remove any of the Cities currently available to us, hence they are actually allowing the people of this thing of ours to determine how many of the Cities are occupied by criminals. Personally, I feel its a step forward in the sense of the actual decision making be down to us mere mafioso (or the GFC at least) as opposed to having to simply step in line with the demands of any God like powers that be.

The next logical step would be for those in power to really invoke any actual changes they want; since there is so much talk of having ONE Godfather per City to restore some pride to the title, if those in the GFC really wanted that right now, its something that they can certainly achieve. The downfall here is that people will always simply do whats best for them, not what they deem best for this thing of ours. Thats not a criticism of anyone though, as I dare say had I been in theirs shoes I would be likely to do whatever was in my best interest also, its human nature really.

Anyway going back to the one Godfather comment, for those that weren't able to attend the meeting held in the coffeeshops, it's my understanding that it was something that was expressed by one of the members of the GFC that the current people in power would indeed like to see One Godfather per City and that the Gods have said they would happily accomodate that desire by assisting any of these Godfathers that wish to step down, however the Godfathers currently in power only want this move if it means that its something implemented by the Gods to prevent the next power group from simply having several Godfathers back in one city again. So instead of leaving this down to what people want, they want the Gods to alter the world to restrict the Cities to one Godfather only, like it used to. (Likely this would be based in Centre District of each City?)

I'm interested to know what the thoughts on this are from the wider public.

A) Do we want one Godfather per city?

B) Do we agree that the move should be made by Gods to restrict this for now and future, or should it be altered purely for now and left open to be utilised differently in future, thus allowing the actual mafioso to determine the shap of this thing of ours and not be restricted?

C) Can I haz bacon Iocaste?

RIP Philly for now. I have to agree though, focus on filling up one city before authing idiots just for the sake of filling all the cities at once.

Tomoe walks out to the streets seeing a debate she finds interesting and decides to put her two-cents in

in my opinion i believe we should keep philly vacant until we fill 2 or more cities. my basis for such an opinion is as follows

she pulls a map out of her back pocket and pinning it to a telephone pole

In this thing of ours looking at the map i count around 37 families in total dispersed throughout the map: fourteen in NY, eleven in Chi, two in Det, two in LV, eight in LA and Philly is currently empty if you ask me it is looking like the families are spread quite thin no?

Tomoe takes a second to take the map off the pole fold it up and slide it back into her pocket

With those numbers one would think we should stop the expansion to other cities and focus on building the current districts and cities. Furthermore there simply is not a steady supply of new blood coming to these shores and many experienced bloodlines leaving these shores is on the rise.

to all of those who want to fill Philly due to a bloodlines roots being there or this and that reason the time for being sentimental has long passed us by. Sure it feels nice to be based in the city you love but for the sake of progress one should leave such feelings behind. (and for the record i do not believe maria is being bitchy she is merely voicing her opinion in her own way)

TheDude stumbles out in the streets a few months after the original speech went out, he looks around before he takes a sip of his white russian.

"I stand here today looking at Detroit that has since the time of this speech been wiped out, and LV that well it's been around the same size give or take a few people. The point I'm trying to make here is that it's clear that filling these cities doesn't seem to have gone according to the plan."

He takes another sip as he looks around, awaiting an angry mob to show up with pitch forks and torches.

"I'm not saying this could be a good thing or a bad thing, but I honestly think the people on top should reconsider populating Philly, if we look at the flight times between lets say New York and Las Vegas, that in it's own can be reason enough for someone to pick another city to join. (Just and example.)  Where Philly is closer and might be more appealing to some."

He finishes his drink and walks off.

"At least consider it, it could actually be a good thing."

Maria had spent much of the afternoon polishing her pitch fork. It was harder than most people appreciated to keep these in good condition, and she'd hate to turn up to join an angry mob with a substandard pitchfork - that just wouldn't be classy!

TheDude, I fully hear you on this issue. We actually seem in some ways to have regressed since this speech was made. The truth of it is that the growth of this world has seemed for quite some time to have been stagnant. It's seemed as though our population has shrunk, or at the very best stayed around the same. Now, my bloodline has long said that districts are the cause of this type of stagnation, that districts have caused our world to become too sparse and overly populated with leaders and hands, that there are too many chiefs and not enough Indians.

To me that isn't a reflection on the Godfathers. They do what they can. But how are they to populate these cities without either cutting their own districts, which they have worked hard to build, down further, or else launching contests which never really seem to produce much other than small crews and bloodshed? There just aren't enough members of this thing of ours for them to do more than that with.

This, to me, is more an issue for the Gods to directly deal with as opposed to leaders to try to find a solution to.

I personally feel as though shutting Philadelphia was actually one of the smartest moves by the 303 Godfathers. It's meant that there hasn't been pressure to fill it. We KNOW it's shut. We KNOW nothing is happening there. We KNOW there isn't a pressing expectation for things to magically appear there. I think that's healthy for this thing of ours. Our Godfathers have recognized what many of us know: our population cannot and will not support six cities.

I honestly think the best they could do for the future of our world would be to close another city. I'm quite sure the residents of Paradise probably aren't going to love me for this, but I'd suggest that perhaps, in the interests of balancing our coasts, we could look at funding them a move to Detroit and close off Las Vegas for the time being in the same way as we have Philadelphia. I'd also quite like to see the district of North Side lost from the criminal map following the death of Desmand, in order to allow Chicago to shrink back to it's original, three district form, in order to better reflect the population of this world.

I do wish the West Coast hadn't re-opened. But it has and it's populated so to me, the best we can do is balance it with the East and try to centralize our world as much as possible until our population requires otherwise.

Anything beyond that is an action for the Gods.

Sad that her pitch fork hasn't really been required, Maria trudges away with it.

Report Post Tip

TheDude notices Maria's shiny pitch fork as she trudges away with it.

"There is plenty of indians and chiefs out there if people would just open their eyes. Honestly closing Philadelphia might actually been one of the dumbest decisions made in a long while."

He pours himself another drink and clears his throat.

"I don't think any cities should be closed, people should spread out a little, I'm not saying send a full crew into a new city. I'm just saying that people should stop cramming people into elevators that holds x amount of people."

Taking a sip of his white russian as he looks around.

"I'm not going to get into talking about districts as that's not the issue at hand, and personally I quite enjoy the district aspect."

TheDude chugs the rest of his drink before he turns around.

"I don't think I got anything else to add here."

Report Post Tip

TheDude, the problem, I think, is that the idea of a boatload of Godfathers running about makes me feel faintly nauseated. I'm downright sick of seeing nameless, faceless crewleaders suddenly pop up as Godfathers and I think it's a very unhealthy aspect, so to me, closed districts and cities are the best way of dealing with this.

Feeling a little thirsty, she pulls a flask from her bag and takes a sip from the whisky inside it.

How many of these proverbial Indians are actually active, functional members of our society? It's been a while since my line had fresh blood out here but it wouldn't surprise me if any sign of fresh blood isn't circled instantly by half a billion desperate, fawning recruiters. How many crews are full of comatose members? I'm thinking probably quite a lot. That isn't a situation that calls for more Chiefs. I'd frankly rather see less Chiefs and higher standards for the Indians.

When I take those ideas into account, it honestly doesn't seem as though we're particularly crammed anywhere beyond the limits of that area.

Report Post Tip

He looks back as he hears a Maria speaking up again.

"Like I said I got nothing to add."

TheDude walks off.

i thought it was a GF Council decision to close Philly?

we currently have 11 Inactive Crew Leaders (including their top 3) out of a total of approximately 36 crew leaders (3 of these being godfather families)

districts are the problems, districts should be acted out and not pushed upon this world of ours, im pretty sure captains and capo's can take over the role of "Districting" our cities with help from the Godfathers

lets take a minute to just evaluate todays world, these are the following empty districts:

North Side, CH [N]
Downtown, DT [C]
Corktown, DT [E]
Summerlin, LV [N]
The Strip, LV [C]
Inglewood, LA [W]
Old City District, PH [C]
Bella Vista, PH [E]
South Philly, PH [S]

this district has never seen more than 50 members since after the initial competition:

Paradise, LV [S]

these districts currently have more than 3 families in them:

Hollywood, LA [C]
Bronx, NY [N]
Queens, NY [E]
Staten Island, NY [S]

now with all this layed out for the Godfathers to see is it not reasonable to spread out the crowded districts and place them into the empty districts?

why continue to close more cities instead of just placing existing crews

why stop people who want to move into cities from populating the cities and disitrcits?

ive long said the big problem we have is Too Many Godfather's (3 Godfathers per city is just too much to have a balance of power equally through out the country because those in power do nothing more than look to prevent power from rising beside them
