Pickpocket Scale Up Started by: ScaryGuy on Aug 05, '14 22:51
Yes, we are different. So respect our opinion and thank us for our imput. Dont pick apart the opinions that YOU invited us here to give.
thats all im saying.
Report Post Tip

Genocide it's not that we're picking apart what people say, it's showing them that there are alternatives and solutions to the problems they're presenting to us. Stop detracting from the original topic please.

Report Post Tip

So you want more financial benefits with no more risk for detection? That's what I mean when I say "additional retribution". Perhaps clumsily worded, but as far as I'm concerned, with increased benefits come increased risk. Just for the record, I'd also be quite happy with FutureStealer's 10% of cash on hand.

Report Post Tip

Yes, we are different indeed.

I do respect your opinion, and I hope you'd respect mine.

I haven't said "No Genocide, your suggestion is shit." So please don't come at me with that, pal.

Eric and I are for the topic at hand and we're defending it with counters and possible solutions.

Report Post Tip

And in Kyubey's defence.. he didn't invite you for Opinion, I did. Though as Eric said, its not a case of picking apart the views of others, its about looking at those views and solving any problems with them or at least discussing the problems raised. Only once you discuss those problems and find solutions would this likely be able to succeed.

Otherwise it would be as well saying everyone just Vote yes or no to the idea without even entering into discussions about it.

Report Post Tip
Lets just forget I even bothered to wright here.
im not going to get into a petty debait over people opinions. If I give an opinion, I stick to it.
I dont want to be told how to resolve my negativity or whatever.
Report Post Tip

I fully back this idea also. I like the idea of if its just based on a percentage of what the person has on hand. I do not see the harm here, we have bank we can bank cash in and option to mug if we see the person.

It also makes it worthwhile pp'ing once you're at x amount of pps. I can't see how many actually pp for for cash with it just set for 5k.

Report Post Tip

Bank it? I guess you just don't keep drug money on hand or ever do OCs/drug runs. Banking every 15 seconds is a waste of time if we have to pull money out to spend it on things like drug runs that happen every five minutes for some of us. I'm not down with forcing players to waste time banking every time they do a drug run or an OC. All I said was keep the cap low because it can snowball when you get targeted. The feature will get banned, whether it's this regime or the next, if it's too high, so rather than just stating 'bank it' maybe you guys should spend two seconds actually trying to think of a counter-measure or taking that into consideration.

Report Post Tip

Right, but say you get pickpocketed - you then don't have to bank anything until your PP pro runs out, so it isn't that often really if you don't lose your pro early.

Also, would you really have to bank every 15 seconds or is that just an exaggeration? I can't think of a time where I would be doing something so big cash wise every 15 seconds that I'd have to bank my money in case I lost a large amount.

And yeah I do keep money on hand, but if losing 5k was a big deal I would bank it to make sure I don't just like I do to stop myself being mugged if I PP someone.

On a side note, if you think banking your money is a waste of time you obviously don't care about losing it, so why are you against this? :P

Report Post Tip
An increase based upon % in hand seems like the best idea for this situation, but it has to cap at some point. That cap should be the next debatable point in this discussion. To the naysayers, either mug them or shoot them. Other features in the game have been changed over time, a change to pick pocketing is long over due. Ideas like this or related to PPing have been suggested for years, so there is clearly support for change.
Report Post Tip

I'm not against this Eric, I want it to get passed. I'm simply trying to bring in the perspective of the person who gets targeted by PPers. I've been targeted by people to get PPed like 10-12 times a day by friends... and I've also been paid a CD a week to PP certain people as much as possible so whether the intentions are good or bad it's going to happen and it has to be discussed in this type of a subject. And you're right, it isn't every 15 seconds, but I can tell you offhand from my playing style it'd be about 30 times minimum per hour of active play. If I'm fast, I'll spend 2-3 seconds pulling the money out if I just always pull all of it out and put all of it back in but I'll be generous and say 1.5 seconds. That's now 2.5% of my logged in and paying attention time will be spent on the bank screen assuming I have fast internet, pull everything out and never type a number into the screen because I just hit the number that automatically comes up. So your options will be to spend a sizable portion of your time on the bank screen, or lose the money if the PP banks his money. That's too much and could be altered by making it so you can buy drugs by bank transfer or something or automatically bank money brought in from OCs. I want it passed, but with a cap that wouldn't allow someone to lose 100's of thousands per day for the people that don't like being PPed. As nice as a more entertaining PP feature would be, I don't wanna risk losing members to do it.

Report Post Tip

Steal my money I kill you all.

That being said I haven't looked over any of the other comments but I am in favour of making pick pocketing actually worth something. I personally don't bother that much because I don't care much for the achievements.

However I would like to see an increase in the chance of getting caught the more money you steal. Stealth answers are already far too good and the opportunity for those on them to stealth steal everyone else's money on top too is pretty ridiculous. I only get PP'd by like 3 people all on stealth and I've probably seen them a handful of times ever.

I also think it would be cool to make it harder for higher ranks to be PP'd too (not sure if this is already the case since I don't do it that often.)

Report Post Tip

My understanding Desmand is that it works in a similar fashion to that of shooting, so the rank distance has an impact, but its not exactly massive. The skill aspect is the more important factor when you include Bodyguards, so having to pick your pocket you would need a very high level of skill.. so really someone being able to pickpocket a Godfather with max BGs it takes a lot and so imo they should be worthy of getting a sizeable amount.

As for the stealth side of things.. well, these people sacrifice other aspects in order to have this ability. So I dont know that they should be regarded as too good, as really without them being the way they are I dont see why anyone would use them at all. Its all relative really, as you have the other side of the coin with those using Info that can see everyone without having to make any effort elsewhere, but it costs them in other areas just like those with Stealth.

Report Post Tip

First, I would like to remind everyone that the rank-range limit is still in play on PPs. So if the scaling increase in cash is based on rank, it will cap at $15,000 or $20,000 depending on how this is implemented (because you can't PP anything above 3 ranks above you). If the suggestion has been changed to factor in on-hand cash as well as (or instead of) rank, then we should lay that out as such.

Second, if this also scales down, Dons will be able to snag much more from an Earner than a Gangster will (both because of skill and rank differential). Just making sure everyone is aware that the scaling reward scales on both sides of the ranks.

I advise against a rank-based reward system. I don't see any reason why PPing higher ranks should inherently net you an absolute increase in cash. Higher ranks can earn money faster, so basing the reward on on-hand cash will allow the feature to be virtually rank-based while still not favoring high or low rankers.

I advise against modulating detection by money stolen. As realistic as it may sound (someone who runs off with 50k of your money may be more noticeable than someone running off with 5k), I think this is counterintuitive. As your PP skill increases, you should be able to steal more money without being seen. If training your PP skill (which can cost you a lot if you get mugged frequently) will only reveal you more often (because you take a bigger amount and it makes you more susceptible to muggings), then I see very little reason to train your PP skill at all. If we look at getting mugged as a failure (net loss of money and jumbled timers), then you'd be simultaneously training up your skill and getting worse at the same time.

I am in favor of increasing the amount of cash stolen, and I think the current stealth math is fine. I would recommend a combination of what has been laid out thus far with scaling rewards capped at 15%:

Gangster A PPs Gangster B - 5% of on-hand cash is in danger. Takes $5k of 100k on-hand.
Gangster A PPs Goomba B - 10% of on-hand cash is in danger. Takes $20k of 200k on-hand.
Gangster A PPs Earner B - 15% of on-hand cash is in danger. Takes $45k of 300k on-hand.

Don A PPs Consigliere B - 5% of on-hand cash is in danger. Takes $250k of $5M on-hand.
Don A PPs Wise Guy B - 15% of on-hand cash is in danger. Takes $75k of 500k on-hand.

This is obviously much more than originally intended, but I think it's silly to only increase it by 5k. If the current pickpocket system has taught us anything, it's that 5k doesn't matter. Increasing it by 5k, 10k, or 15k does nothing to make it more exciting or more fun. It won't change anyone's behavior, they won't bank their excess cash, and life will go on exactly as it did before. Plus, people have mugged for millions without any harm coming to them. So while I do see this as a legitimate "attack," there is now a route of repercussions that doesn't involve death (mugging). Plus, you can always send it back.

Either that, or we allow the PPer to set how much he wants to try to steal, up to a cap.

Report Post Tip

vision behind pickpocketing should not be increased in anyay im merely proposin that it is stupid that if you reach your hand in the pocket of someone with 100 million dollars in their pockets thats its stupid that youd only take a measely 5k from them max

the 10% of cash on hand is a nice idea as well that being said i think itd be smart if the following idea was implemented as well:

set a 24 hour cap of cash to be stolen based on say 1% of ingame cash for everyone

to aid what i mean ill use real numbers:

Total Available Cash In Game: $3,300,000,000 that means an average of $3,699,552 per user (based on 892 users) (1% = 36995)

so if we set the daily limit that can be lost to 5% the most someone could lose in a day would be $185,000

or even set it to 10% of the average per user cash would bring it to $370,000

make the daily cap auto adjust based on average cash per user and have that override the 10% of cash on hand

the 5% would bring in about 7500 per pp

the 10% would bring in about 15000 per pp

and would have a realtime cap implemented

Report Post Tip

I like the idea of a daily cap, and I'd be okay with putting more relevance on letting the percent in each city being set by the Godfather Councilor to give that position a bit more relevance. Might give some people a reason to avoid flying to certain cities again and add a new dynamic without necessarily hurting people looking to avoid being PPed.

Report Post Tip
Not a fan of there being a cap on money stolen. If I stay active for 24 hours and steal the max allowed every time without vein caught then I have earned that cash. I run the risk on pushing the boundaries, so if I succeed I shouldn't be capped. Beside, we don't cap how many kills per day someone can get, only the timers do.
Report Post Tip

If there's no cap per PP there will probably be deaths and almost an instant ban from the users for the same reasons it was banned back in the day. No one will want to risk losing BG money, etc... There needs to be a happy medium where it'll get used but it won't be so high it's viewed as a serious weapon and basically banned.

Report Post Tip
Risk vs Reward. Leave it up to the user if they want to push the limits of it or not. I see your point, and agree that it would most likely end up banned, but I still think it should be uncapped.

Hopefully this moves forward, even if the increase is slight.
Report Post Tip

As there is a high amount of stealth on PP, so much so that someone on stealth can comfortably PP people on info knowing that 90% of the time they'll stealth.

If the amount PPing takes goes up so will the consequences, personally I would no long mug people I will shoot on sight as I used to.
