A Rourke Rank Sale Started by: ThomasRourke on Feb 21, '09 16:09
Hello all,

Recently we have seen Godfathers springing up left and right (relatively speaking of course). Meanwhile there are many crews with leaders who are ranked at Don, Consigliere, and Boss. Many can see that there is certainly a competitive disadvantage for cities that have Godfathers vs. those without. I am now offering a chance for the playing field to become a bit more leveled!

As we all know, your Crewleader cannot rank you to be on par with their own rank, however if a member were to join as a war refugee they can enter the crew at the same rank as the crewleader they are joining (For instance a Boss cannot be promoted to Consigliere while the leader is Consigliere, but a homeless Consigliere can join a crew where the leader is Consigliere).

I like seeing people getting a fair shake, so I am willing to offer my services as a Godfather to everyone with the money and consent from their family head to get ranked to the same heights as their leader.

The pricing is as follows:

Rank Check - $100,000... This will be the initial check to see if your promotion to Don, Consigliere, etc. is in. If it is not, the money is non-refundable, but proof will immediately be provided via a photograph ((OOC: screenshot)) showing that the promotion is not there. If it isn't, I will drop you out of my crew for you to rejoin your own family. You can re-check as many times as you'd like until the promotion is in, but beware that the $100,000 is non-refundable each time. I will NOT perform rank checks for any rank that a crewleader can manually do to feed into paranoia of whether you're being held back on a rank. If you are, you are, that's not for me to interfere with.

Promotion - $1,000,000... After your $100,000 is sent and if a promotion is found to exist, you will be charged an additional $1,000,000 for the physical promotion. After the promotion is completed you will be dropped to re-join your crew as the same rank as your Crewleader (for example if you were Consigliere and I promoted you to Don, you would now be able to re-enter your family with the same Don rank as your leader).

Now this may lead to some silly assumptions that I'm looking to cheapen the value of ranks and all that utter nonsense. I would point out that I am offering an alternative for crews to stay competitive with this thriving Godfather market. I would also say that this course of action is no less questionable to "cheapening" a rank as it would be to implement a Gangster or Goomba as Right Hand Man to essentially oversee and control people vastly higher ranked.

I would like to see all of the cities and all of their members have the chance to realize their full potential. That is of course, for a price.

Have you cleared this with all CL's?
Report Post Tip
Sir, I have one question though. A while ago, when other godfathers were in power, a few of these services were done to a few friends. However, the gods called the attention of these godfathers for abusing the promotion system. For example, if I were to pay for my promotion to Don and then return to my family, being under a Don. That wasn't allowed by the gods, and I remember my mother telling me, that a lot of people lots the ranks they were promoted to by the same gods.

Has this changed now?
Report Post Tip
Does it matter if he's cleared it? He's a GodFather he can do pretty much whatever the hell he wants
Report Post Tip
It's a very interesting idea and not bad money either. Though a thing comes to mind, don't you also have the ability to kill someone the instant they join your crew? (hypotaticly speaking). It's a big risk for the high ranked to pull such a stunt.. it can screw up quite a bit of the world the way it was invented.
Report Post Tip
Sir, a couple of questions if I may..

1) The people that purchase your services, do they need their leader's permission to leave their family before hiring you?

2) If people that use your services do not have their boss' permission are you willing to take responsibility for them?

3) If the people that use your services do so without their boss' permission will you retaliate if their boss decides to punish them?

4) How are you going to guarantee that someone you take the responsibility of promoting does not go "rogue" as any other leader would be expected to do? Just because you drop them to return does not mean that they will in fact return to their original family.

I am very curious as to why you feel this is even necessary. It should not boil down to the almighty dollar.

As Ire stated this has been done in the past and frowned upon by the staff of City Hall. Also, where in the world would you have two Dons running the same family or captaincy?

I guess a buck is a buck right? Regardless of where it came from and what it may be the source of.
Report Post Tip
I do not remember the controversy that Ire is referring to, although I do remember some time ago that crewleaders were able to promote their own members to the same rank.

Notwithstanding City Hall's view of this, I think it is refreshing to see someone adding a new option to our daily activities. My only problem is that it is far too cheap. Surely a Don promotion is worth more than one million, especially considering the earning capacity of a Consigliere.
Report Post Tip
I don't need to. This is my own individual project. I actually stated in the initial speech that none of this would be done without the consent of the crewleader for each individual case.

Please excuse the questions regarding permission, I am old and deaf it seems....

Scipita, this is not arrogance in saying so, but I feel fairly confident that I could kill them OUTSIDE of my crew as well without relying on the HQ Wack. And this is also motivated by money, so killing potential purchasers would just be silly.

I apologize if I've offended you in any way.

As you can see I am fairly new here, just got off the train in New Orleans and ran into your post.

But I've heard a rumor HQ wack doesnt leave any evidence.
Report Post Tip
Why would Godfather Rourke be concerned about leaving evidence?
Report Post Tip
That would be a question for the future I'd say.

On to Angel's questions which I appreciate being in number format by the way!

1) The people that purchase your services, do they need their leader's permission to leave their family before hiring you?

Absolutely. If I find out they bought out to try get the promotion I can't imagine it would lead to a great end for them. I encourage each person who is looking to test the waters in this venture talk it over thoroughly with their leader. It's a big step no doubt.

2) If people that use your services do not have their boss' permission are you willing to take responsibility for them?

I will certainly be willing to issue an apology for anyone who buys out and tries to take a promotion to Don. I can't imagine that scenario popping up though because if they had gotten that highly ranked to begin with, it just wouldn't make sense for them to risk it. I would gladly adhere to the crewleader's wishes on how to handle said person if they were crazy enough to attempt such a tactic.

3) If the people that use your services do so without their boss' permission will you retaliate if their boss decides to punish them?

Absolutely not. I can't imagine I'd have any personal ties to the people I would promote. It is mostly business with a side of wanting everyone to have a more equal slice of power.

4) How are you going to guarantee that someone you take the responsibility of promoting does not go "rogue" as any other leader would be expected to do? Just because you drop them to return does not mean that they will in fact return to their original family.

I can't. It's a small risk, but a risk. When they are the rank of say a Boss or Consigliere or other highly touted figure, I can't imagine they'd need my help to leave a crew, as they should surely have the funds to buy out if that was their endgame. I will cut down on the risk factor by saying now, I will not take anyone into my crew for promotion purposes without seeing express consent from their leader in my inbox. If they do end up gallivanting off to another crew, well it would be strange, but I would be happy to follow whatever course of action the crewleader would want taken and gladly take the flak of any fallout.

This is by no means a quick and easy decision. For crewleaders you should trust the people if you choose to send them my way, there is minimal risk sure, but the advantages are obviously staying competitive in what is becoming quite a feisty market.

I do not see why Thomas would need to take responsibility for any actions by those he promotes. If he is only doing it with the consent of the person's boss, and the person being promoted is still a member of that family, then any responsibility would still fall on the person's boss. No more or no less than if the CL promoted the bad apple. This is essentially a moot question, because I have never seen a CL held accountable for having rogues come from their crew. Criticized, yes, but not held accountable.

Thomas would merely be serving as a proxy, conducting a promotion that the other CL is unable to conduct.

As far as the questions, all of which relate to "what if they buy out without permission", that would make the person a rogue, and rogues are usually killed. I think those questions answer themselves.
Report Post Tip
Butt Ox I would certainly be glad to offer an apology that a transaction didn't take place. But as you touched on I can't imagine that after gaining full consent from a leader anything would go awry.
Report Post Tip
Just two questions. It is pretty much what Ire asked of you. I cannot seem to see your answer? If it has been answered or if you have chosen not to answer it then my apologies.

1. A long time ago this kind of idea was used by the Godfather Anita. She took members of FlyingPigs family, promoted them to Don and sent them back over.

City hall got in touch and informed her and FlyingPig and his members that this goes against the way of this world. She and FlyingPig had to demote these members back to Consigliere and leave them there until they branched out to form their own families. Only then would they deserve it.

Why is this now seen as something acceptable to do? Especially when these members may have no actual link to your family you you are not doing it because they deserve their rank (with all due respect) but because they can afford it?

2. Do you not think it is wrong to have people the same rank as their leader? surely this makes them equals and spoils all sort of respect that the rank system gives to us?
Report Post Tip
Ire, I think the rule had in fact changed (even though I must say I had no idea one had existed in the first place).

Abbey, the rank system is such a weird thing as is right now, I don't think this detracts anything from it. As I mentioned there are Right and Left Hand Men and Women who hold very low actual ranks commanding those of higher ranks. Sub-Crew leaders can exercise power over members in their sub-crew even though the members themselves may hold a higher rank. A member holding the same rank as a crewleader is no less strange than any of the above. I think so long as there is a hierarchy based on titles, rank has seem to become something of a power display rather than a respect determinant.
Report Post Tip
If a leader garners less respect than someone in his family, for the reason that they are honored with the same title, then that leader does not have what it takes to run a family. If rank is what determines whether or not a person has the loyalty of their members and the respect of those who follow him, then anyone with rank could lead a family. Of course, this is not true.

Any leader that feels threatened by another person in the family holding similar status simply does not have to allow it to happen. A strong leader will feel secure in his or her own leading abilities and not be threatened.

From a mere glance over at the family of Sal_Giaquinto, it looks like all our "legitimacy" questions have been answered!

The presence of two other Consiglieres other than Sal and the standing of a "daughter of the Gods" as frequent RHW and current LHW leads me to believe that if the Gods truly had a problem with this ranking system, Miss Phoenix would not have allowed Fu-ManjuRourke or SeanConnery to maintain their ranks.
