When you get a random invite from some stranger you never talked to, do you accept and take the easy route in or decline and have dignity?

Truthfully, I say abuse it. Take the easy route. It is their fault, so make them realize. Shoot someone in the face after you have accepted the invite... I am still debating though and would like your feed back. Any and all opinions are welcome.

I actually believe Lorrie's crew is to good for the likes of someone who will "Join and shoot someone in the face".

What is there to debate about, a CL was attempting to help out a new player and is rewarded by the new player posting a totally useless thread that shows how little class the new player posses.

I do have to agree with Rover here. Lorrie out the kindness of her heart allowed you to join her family and this is how you would come here and show that all your good for is moaning. I see no point in it. All you had to do was simply Decline the invatation im sure you are capable of that after all your capable of posting a usless thread. Things like this have and are being debated all the time, and the most simple solution is just to decline.

BD see's one of the ever present young people in the streets and stops to listen to what they have to say. When they are done speaking BD steps up and tries to help out with this obviously troubled mafioso

Welcome to the community OOFda. I hope you enjoy your stay and make many friends here. It's only up to you to make the choice to accept or decline. Since you are new to this,(we all were at some point) If I was in your postition I would look at all the leaders and see if you are drawn to them. Every leader is different and acts accordingly. You should also read the rules that make MR run smoothly and therefor you yourself may move smoothly along with it....This is just a suggestion of course =-D

I hope you find a crew that you can work and grow with OOFda, and I hope to see you walking the streets of the sevens cities along with the rest of us very soon :-)

How little class? Shit son I came from a time where I would appraoch her, ask for an invite and await it. Not create an account, do some petties, get a random invite from someone I never talked to, never asked for an invite from. I find it odd how she is "selectively recruiting". Let me show you how selective that is.

Click click click, "Oh new name", mangagement > crew > Invite 'OFFda' > Enter.

She isn't rewarding anyone. She just simply sent you an invite. There is no crime in sending an invite. Its not like you HAVE to accept it. Thats why there is a decline button. So why don't you just simply press that and quit crying over being sent an invite for no reason.

But I digress, OOFda it appears you HAVE played before, and it also appears you have a promeblem with leaders recruiting members that they see off the 60 second list. I have to agree with DK on this one if it's such a big deal decline it, This might have gone differently if you didn't add such strong imagry in your speech and started it something like

"why do leaders send out invites to people right off the boats? This doesn't make sense to me, please help."

Or something like that idk just a thought

Ok, I expected a bit more intelligence here, but I guess I was deluded.

Once upon a time, Lorrie would be shot in the face for this. Perhaps that was a bit extreme, but the point of such harsh tactics was that the role play nature of the game should be preserved. That's right, this is a TEXT BASED ROLEPLAY game. Meaning, mob bosses do not stand out on street corners inviting any shady looking character into their headquarters. Instead, the young thug should present himself to the Boss as a street hoodlum looking for work. That's called roleplaying.

I do not believe a novel must be written, but the person interested in joining the family must make the first contact. Sending out random invites only teaches the young that they do not have to work for anything, that written communication here is optional, and that this thing is based on clicking rather than writing.

Be grateful that I am only in italics, and not in bold, or there would be quite a few mute retards filling the obits right now, and being replaced by people who appreciate the text-based aspect of the game.

Upon arriving to these shores I was inundated by "Join us" mails. That's all well and good. Enthusiasm is a blessing around here. However, the unexpected invites were another thing.

As Butt_Ox said, in the past this was frowned upon. It was even once called "member whoring" and several leaders did lose their lives for it. It was seen as dirty and desperate.

What crime boss in their right mind is going to invite people they have not at least spoken to? How are they to know that this person isn't going to stab them in the back? You guys do remember that's what we are supposed to be doing here right? Do people walk up to you and say "Hey! You have a job! I don't care who you are. I don't care what your goals are. Come work for me!"?

I understand there are many families now and it's slim pickings when it comes to members, there's competition now. Have people become so desperate that they cannot even contact a new face first? Introduce themselves? Pretend that they have standards for membership?

Don Butt_Ox. I have no problems with you what so ever and I personally don't wish to have either and Im not going to stop anyone having their opinions.

Yes this is a role play game but things like this happen on a daily basis to be fair and no one else comes moaning to the OOC or Streets. They just simply press the decline. Most of us high rankers I can almost certianally garuntee that once we pass away that our next of kin will be invite to a family without asking, because of what we did. It shouldn't go like that but it does.

I will be speaking to my Captain personally and chatting to her about the way she takes in people, but I will not deprive her of her leadership abilitys because things like this happen everyday and no one says anything else about it.

As we're out of character, I'm quite perturbed by this.

To just invite someone into your family with no communication is not how our business works. I remember a time when someone who habitually whored members was not long for this world. I don't blame lorrie for this, necessarily, as she seems like a very nice woman. Rather, I blame a society that has apparently allowed this habit to become socially acceptable. I seem to recall, as a young thug myself, receiving 3 or 4 unsolicited invites from a variety of crewleaders.

The simple fact of the matter is that we currently have 28 crews, of which 20 are accepting members, and that all these crews are competing for associates. It is an inverse of the supply and demand that was present in the actual mob, in which there were often dozens of associates vying for the attention of a Boss. It's not ridiculous that, in our world, if an organization needs bodies then someone would be dispatched to find some new blood at the docks.

But just inviting someone without a world? That's an entirely different matter.

I genuinely worry when I read threads like these.

The first thing that should be obvious to anyone of any experience is our protagonist. If he asked me I would gladly make him a "Hi, I'm looking to cause trouble" profile picture, because clearly between his obvious quote and this thread, this was apparent intent was still lost on some. I have assumed this mantle on occasion it is affectionately known in the trade as 'TroubleMaker' and the game goes something like this:

- I am bored and can't really be bothered with MafiaReturns.

- I don't really want to have to work for anything but I'll drop by and see if anything catches my eye.

- Scan a few threads. This looks really shit.

- Insert a few petties.

- Personal is blinking. Why?

- Hello, Captain has sent me an invite without me asking.

- Grin on face. Game time.

- How can I make this useless account as destructive as possible for someone else?

- Cue thread and own hilarity at causing deaths with 17 minutes effort.

This is how TroubleMaker (OOFda in this case) gets their entertainment from minimum effort. Fairly unfortunate for him that he has stumbled into the most forgiving era in either MafiaReturns/Mafia history and you have to actually shoot at another leader to die. Let's not kid ourselves here; lorrie would usually have been toast for this. Anyone who's been here for more than 3 months knows this. Probably most of the other leaders know this but they either don't want to cause trouble or don't care enough.

Ultimately it comes down to what we deem as acceptable. Las Vegas has one Captain. He has had a HQ for a long time which is still not full. Is he awful at recruiting? Is he that piss poor that michaelcorleone14 doesn't think he is good enough to take his sponsorship? No. Nobody is that bad. The question then is why is he still not full? He doesn't whore the 60 second list like some painted streetwalker hawking his wares on unsuspecting passersby.

This is going on. Until we either educate those newer Captains and their chosen slanties on the counterproductive nature of this activity it will continue. I watch the obituaries. I watch the 60 second list. People will attest to just how sad I am in compulsively clicking profiles - I you're doing this. I hope you will desist on your own and if not I hope this is stamped out, even if your head is beneath the boot.
