Street Posting Standards (How NOT To Spam) | Started by: Anubis on Sep 05, '09 16:01 |
After talking to some of the other admins, and assistants, I think some posting standards should be laid out. Now, these are just guidelines for posting, and they are flexible, but they should be viewed not as a do-this-or-die scenario, but more as a do-this-or-you-may-lose-a-thread scenario. These are to keep things easily accessible and readable.
Read the rest of this topic, all the replies and what not, because I'm not the end of it. I expect the other admins to come and post guidelines for you as well. Also, if any of the more experienced users decide to weigh in on this conversation, that would be great, since you've got more experience in posting then even most admins. |

I'm hardly an experienced player compared to many... but unless someone specifies in their post that they are telling a story, then do not say "Great story!" afterwards. I have, rarely, told an actual story in the streets but this is the exception rather than the rule. If someone is roleplaying their character in a certain situation it is appropriate to respond with words or actions IN CHARACTER. So, for example, if you read something in which a character is in a stakeout and snipes a target from two hundred yards away... it would be appropriate to react to that event in character... you wouldn't turn to the shooter and say "Hey that was a great story!". Stay in character- you could even try to continue or add to the "story" that is being played out! |

This also means keeping your posts in era... The era the game is set is the early 1930's. Time of prohibition. Try to remember that when posting. Sorry for sounding like hardasses but.. yeah.... Have a nice day? |

http://www.paper-dragon.com/1939/intro.html That site is AMAZING! It has wage tables for common jobs, slang of the era, political issues and wars, information about the famous people of the time including Amelia Earhart, and Charles Lindbergh, the music, coinage, music, planes, trains, buses and boats, and GUNS! Some of the articles are a bit short but it should give you a big hard shove into understanding the era and the authenticating details that will make your RP *pop*! |

"Good story", "great story", "I want more", "I can't wait for more" and other less literate versions are not acceptable forms of posting praise. If you wish to share your praise, put some effort into it. |

Going along with what Jack was stating; I've used these sites in order to place myself in that era to help things along. Not sure if this can help, but worth the look none the less. Have fun out there people. http://www.thepeoplehistory.com/1930s.html This is a good site if you enjoy what the fashion was like in the 30's I know I do. This is just for the women of that time. http://www.flickr.com/photos/normavalentine/sets/72057594086018769/ |

Just to clarify... One word posts will be deleted. This is a role play forum. Put some effort into your posting.. |

Although I hate myself for having to agree with Gwarble, in this case I feel the need to do so.
When such one word post becomes the sparkle for a debate we shouldn't be left talking about something that "future generations" will have no idea what happened in the first place. |

Though I'm a noob to MR, I have enjoyed RP on other sites and thought perhaps I could offer a suggestion:
Seeing how MR is largely based on game-playing alone, I assume a generous portion of the players aren't all that interested in role-playing. However, I also note that this number is probably balanced out (give or take, I'm not sure where the majority stands) with those of us who do wish to role-play. Instead of cracking down on players who habitually intrude on someone's writing, is it possible that they could instead make it clear that their comments be disregarded in context to the role-play? For example, instead of just saying "Good story" or something along those lines, they could say something like "OOC: Good story"? This way the writers may not be offended at the "interruption" of their story-line. They could simplify matters quite a bit in my opinion.
Of course, if they could do this, they could probably also differentiate between the "Streets Forum" and the "OOC Forum". However, if they were just in the Streets Forum reading up a bit for entertainment, one might want to praise multiple writers of a story line without seperately messaging all contributors. It's quicker, it's clearer, and it's easier. In the other sites I've used to enjoy a bit of RP, most people included "IC (In-Charactor)" or "OOC" prior to their writing, so it was clear what the content was about.
Just something to consider. =]
