i am in the US Marine Corps, and i was wondering if anyone else is in the military(if so what branch?) if not what is your favorite? or who you think is most badass lol

thanks for serving. i dont plan on serving in the military however many of my relatives have. my uncle was in vietnam in the navy, along with my grandpa who was the pilot of a fighter jet during either the korean war or world war two.

The British Special Air Service (SAS) they are the bomb and make me proud to be British. The envy of every other special operations unit the world over.

My favorite is the USMC and I plan on joining when I get old enough.Thank you for serving btw :)

I am USMC, MARSOC (formerly known as Force Recon)...and I would like to disagree there ;)

I just got enlisted into the United States Air Force and i go for basic training in the spring. It should definately be an interesting experience.

I think the Navy SEALS is more badass than SAS

Im not trying to put down any of the Special Operations teams around the world, but what most people don't know or understand is that without the British SAS the rest of the world is unlikely to have such strong SpecOps teams as it does now including the US. The SAS have the knowledge and know how to carry out any mission asked of them, you only have to look up their missions and success rates to see. As for the US special forces don't get me wrong they are very good at what they do but there have been more than a few glaring failures in their missions maybe thats American tactics or training I do not know. And come on SaintKronos, if your unit had an SAS soldier attached to them would you seriously doubt whether he has a better grasp of warfare and how to handle it? No offense I love the US military they really do portray a badass image, but the SAS will outclass any and all US units.

I'm actually just waiting for that n00b poster to come in and say that the best military branch is LAPD SWAT lol there's always one that gets confused.

And for those of you who say what glaring failures??? Here's just one that I find particularly bad, Operation Eagle Claw...

That wasn't there fault they can't control the weather the desert storm was te cause of the whole accident

And you can't use failures to prove which is better because both of these units have failed before and I know that because neither are perfect.

I could use the wargames as an example for saying the SEALS are better since they beat the SAS many years but the SEALS have been beaten too

Yes but the SAS suffered a very similar mission in the Falklands War, in arctic conditions and survived, i know its not about statistics or anything of the sort, but in general when the SAS get into trouble they always pull themselves out of it, unlike everyone else. US or otherwise. Also, how on Earth would you know the actual results of wargames between two of the worlds elite special forces unless you were there, the SAS and SEALS dont exactly parade around saying were going to have wargames next friday everyones invited. Also in terms of wargames a certain amount of political wrangling decides the outcome of wargames not the soldiers themselves the only real test is when there are no observers and the bullets are real and the enemy has to die.

I have operated with Special Forces units from all over the world, and you'd be surprised at what really happens behind closed doors.

I'll be short and sweet.

SAS was the first on the scene of Special Forces, so they have a jump on the rest of us. Does that matter? No, not really. We've learned it all and then some, we have some aces up our sleeves.

The biggest deciding factor in our success rate is the allowable actions governed by our Rules of Engagement. Even our Special Forces, many times, are required to engage under strict RoE -- SAS is not. They can do whatever is necessary; we have to play by rules many times -- that makes all the difference.

Obviously, by posting that link as a tribute to "American failures", you do not have a clear grasp of the effect weather plays on warfare. No "knowledge" or "know how" will guide your helicopter through a sandstorm. The real knowledge would be to not fly the birds period at the time, but that's not a choice left up to the SO community; that is dictated by idiotic politicians and people with heavy brass collars that have lost touch with the reality of war.

Also, are you a SEAL? Do you serve with the SAS? Then don't pretend to know about war games' outcomes. 99% of all of them are classified information anyway, it's not something we're glad to give out. MARSOC is the same way.
