This is all conspiracy theory by my count the world was supposed to end 10 times by now the myan callender was made almost 1500 years ago at the time when they died out.if the world was supposed to end in the year 3000 it could be that the mayans ran out of room and couldn't make any more past 2012 or it could be the possibilty that it is only one of many calenders that they produced and they hid it arround the world. the only remotely credible evidence that the world has the possibility of sun spots effecting electronics in the year but not to the effect that my blackberrey will turn into a nuke. I will not believe in this until im looking up in the sky and a fire ball is heading toward me at which point im gonna say in all truthfulness "God your an ass." just to piss him off. :)

Mikhail, it is not scientists or governments who are propagating this idea. I believe it originated from some kook who tried to take biblical passages or Nostradamus predictions to create an equation, combined with the fact that the Mayan calendar ends in the year 2012.

I'd understand it if it were backed up by some proof that a giant meteor is coming and will nock the earth into the sun but nothing that is solidly proven to happen is there.

In fact 3 times from now in the late 20's 40's and 60's a gigantic meteor will come into very close contact with the earth if it keeps course but it can be affected by so many things such as a planet being miscalculated and aligning its self as a shield and so much more the only real thing i worry about is nuclear war. and still if we are smart we will order a complete eradication of nuclear substances meant for war or otherwise (like nuke power plants) to insure world safety, at least usa and russia it only will take 15 nuke to cause the world to die. but like i said none of this is expected to happen in the close present.
